Harry Potter: Glory Bows to Me
Chapter 12: Gifted Reading Speed
Seeing Harry squatting down and chatting animatedly with Dobby, Amanta hesitated whether to interrupt their conversation.
Just at this moment, a familiar slow tone sounded beside her.
"In fact, I have already read some of the books in the first-grade textbook. If you have any questions, you can ask me now. Otherwise, you will be embarrassed when school starts."
Draco tilted his head slightly and spoke with a little discomfort and a little pride.
"Really?" Amanta raised her eyebrows. "But unfortunately, you don't think I didn't do anything in these three days, do you?"
"..."
Draco was a little skeptical and said, "Three days... you can't do much, so why don't you tell me what you did?"
Amanta imitated Draco's slow and proud voice.
"Nothing... I just read all the textbooks."
Draco's jaw dropped.
"What did you say?"
"I've read all the textbooks."
Amanta stroked her chin and thought for a moment.
It’s just eight books, it seems… probably, possibly, not much?
"Merlin's nose! How thick is the book 'History of Magic'... not to mention 'Magic Theory' and 'One Thousand Magical Herbs and Herbs'. I feel dizzy just looking at it..."
Draco's expression clearly stated: disbelief.
Harry took a break from talking about his ideals with Dobby and looked up at the two of them.
"Amanta! You...you actually finished reading the entire textbook?"
"You know, I've been reading these past few days... but I've only read... about a hundred pages of the book 'History of Magic'?"
Harry's voice was trembling.
Draco shrugged at Amanta.
"You see, I'm not the only one who feels this way."
Draco raised one corner of his mouth and narrowed his eyes: "There's no need to brag in front of me."
Amanta spread her hands and said, "You don't have to believe it, or... you can just ask about the contents?"
Now it was Draco's turn to be at odds with himself.
He seemed to struggle for a while and asked a few questions that he thought Amanta could not answer.
"What is the liquid grass made of?"
Amanta answered quickly.
"Polyjuice Potion."
"What shape is feather grass and what can it be used for?"
"Featherweed is a small herb with round, heart-shaped leaves covered with velvety hairs on both sides and finely serrated edges. It can be used to make beauty potions."
"Who killed the demon Aymeric?"
"Egbert."
Amanta didn't think twice, she felt these questions were too simple.
Draco looked as if he had eaten a troll's snot.
"Merlin's heel! Did you really finish reading this in these three days??!"
Draco circled her suspiciously twice, glancing her up and down to make sure there was no magic helping her.
"If possible, Master Draco, can you lend me a few books and verify whether they are authentic in a few days?"
Amanta raised an eyebrow and looked at Draco provocatively.
She was worried that she had finished reading all the books and would have nothing to do for the next twenty days.
Draco called Dobby over half-suspiciously.
"Dobby, go get some books from the family library at Malfoy Manor."
Dobby was about to raise his hand when Draco added, "If Father asks, just say I was watching. Got it?"
"Okay, little master." Dobby pounded his forehead in pain. "Dobby knows that the Malfoy family library cannot lend books to other people. Dobby doesn't want to deceive the master of the house, but Dobby can't disobey the little master's order. Bad Dobby, bad Dobby!"
Amanta quickly stopped it: "Draco didn't do anything bad, so... can you keep this a secret for him and for me, Dobby?"
Perhaps it was because very few people spoke to it so sincerely, and Dobby's huge green eyes were filled with tears.
He picked up the old pillowcase on his body and wiped it on his face with emotion: "Dobby knows, you are so considerate, and Mr. Potter...you are all so kind..."
"Okay Dobby, go quickly and don't let father notice anything unusual."
Draco urged.
Watching Dobby disappear into thin air with a snap of his fingers, Harry looked at Draco eagerly.
"Draco, Dobby and I talked about its ideals."
"Really? What did it say?"
Draco replied dryly, obviously not wanting to discuss the subject.
Harry, however, was unaware of this, and looked at Draco expectantly.
"Draco, Dobby told me that it wants to be free! It also said that it wants to get its own pay through work."
Obviously Harry didn't know how rebellious and incredible, even a shame, this meant for a house-elf.
He just felt that he was speaking for Dobby's reasonable demands.
Draco rubbed his forehead. "Did it really say that?"
Draco also felt a little surprised. Dobby had never mentioned these topics around him, but he quickly said, "Well...but I may not be able to make the decision on this matter, otherwise my father will definitely punish me."
He shuddered at the thought of how furious his father would be if he knew he had set a house-elf free.
Amanta interrupted, "Then...we can find an opportunity for him to give Dobby a piece of clothing himself. I remember that giving a house-elf a piece of clothing means that it has gained freedom, right?"
Draco seemed a little reluctant: "But... then there won't be a house-elf to do things for me."
"…Including coming here, Dobby had to use Apparition to bring me here, otherwise I wouldn't be able to leave the house."
Draco added.
Amanta thought for a moment and said, "I think you can pay it some wages so that it can continue to work for you?"
Draco nodded thoughtfully.
"That's a good idea."
While they were talking about what opportunity they could find to get Lucius to give Dobby a piece of clothing, Dobby quickly came back with a stack of books that was twice as tall as him.
The pile of books was so high that it kept shaking, so Amanta quickly took it.
"Dobby, thank you."
Unexpectedly, Dobby burst into tears again after hearing these words.
"No one has ever said thank you to Dobby, Miss Merlin. You are so kind. Dobby has never seen anyone kinder and better than you. Dobby is so happy and satisfied. Dobby has never felt this way before..."
Draco quickly interrupted it.
"Dobby, we discussed taking the opportunity to ask father to give you a piece of clothing. Um... I will pay you as your salary later. Do you agree?"
Dobby stared at them blankly with his huge green eyes wide open.
"What... Dobby, did Dobby hear it right? The little master actually said such a thing. Is this true? Dobby agrees! Dobby agrees! Dobby can't think of any words to deny it... Dobby, Dobby is going to be free!"
When Dobby said the last sentence, he was so happy that he did a funny dance on the spot.
