When the pears are green

Chapter 16 Playfulness

Song Li thought she could blow a loud whistle, but unexpectedly she made a dull, dragging "puff...puff..." sound. She covered her face in embarrassment.

Song Yue and Ruyi both laughed out loud after hearing this. Although Jiang Qingzhou did not laugh out loud, Song Li still saw the smile that Jiang Qingzhou was trying to hold back through his slightly opened fingers.

Song Li, who was sulking alone, just covered her face and forgot about the leaf in her mouth. The leaf beside her lips swayed gently back and forth with her breathing.

Jiang Qingzhou noticed the leaf and wanted to take it off for Song Li, but he thought that he had just met Song Li not long ago and was afraid that Song Li would think he was frivolous and that Song Li would get angry. He could only stare at the leaf, watching it open and close, hoping that the leaf would fall off as soon as possible.

Song Yue smiled for a while, then walked over and took the leaf off Song Li's mouth. She smiled and said to Song Li, "Sister, how can you blow it like this? Let me blow one for you."

Song Yue picked up a leaf from the ground, pressed both ends of the leaf with her right hand, put it against her lips, tried several times, and blew out a clear sound.

Song Li couldn't help but exclaim "Wow", which attracted Jiang Qingzhou's attention. Seeing Jiang Qingzhou's puzzled look, Song Li knew she had said something wrong, so she quickly covered her mouth.

In order to prevent Jiang Qingzhou from noticing her again, Song Li ran to the room and took out the sandbags she had made before. She took the sandbags and walked happily to the backyard, making the backyard lively so that Jiang Qingzhou would not stare at her.

Song Li walked to little Zhang You, threw the sandbag high above his head, then raised her hand to catch it gently, causing little Zhang You to clap his hands happily.

Little Zhang You excitedly tried to grab the sandbag from Song Li's hand. After teasing him for a while, Song Li put the sandbag back in his hand and let Song Yue and Ruyi play with him.

Song Li stood under the shade of a tree and watched two older children leading a younger child to play the game of throwing sandbags. As she watched, she recalled her own childhood.

Jiang Qingzhou stood up and slowly walked to Song Li's side. After Song Li noticed it, she just glanced at him and continued to look at Song Yue and the others.

Jiang Qingzhou asked in a low voice: "Xiaoli likes children very much?"

After listening to this, Song Li pondered for a moment and said, "Yeah, I like them very much. However, I only like other people's children because I don't have to raise them. Children are very noisy. It's cute to be together occasionally, but it's unbearable to be together for a long time."

Jiang Qingzhou nodded in agreement after listening to Song Li's words. He said to Song Li, "When my mother was around, I thought Qingye would sometimes get into trouble and make me angry, but I thought that was the nature of a child and I wouldn't argue with him too much. But after my mother left, Qingye and I were together all day. I had to cook for him, wash his clothes, and play with him. In addition, he cried for his mother all day. Sometimes I couldn't help but beat him up, but after that, I regretted it. He was just a seven-year-old child who had lost his mother, and I cried and comforted him. He cried loudly, and I cried quietly."

While listening, Song Li imagined the scene at that time. A twelve-year-old child crying and trying to comfort a seven-year-old child really made people feel distressed, sad, and tired.

Song Li whispered to Jiang Qingzhou: "Qingzhou, you have done well. Everything is in the past, so don't think about it. Let the sufferings that have passed be sealed in your heart. The future is still waiting for you."

After hearing this, Jiang Qingzhou chuckled and said, "In fact, I am also very mean. I remember one time, I felt that I really couldn't stand Qingye, so I took him to the town. I told him that I would buy him some sesame cakes and asked him to wait for me there. In fact, I didn't go. I just hid aside and watched him go from waiting quietly to crying loudly, and then someone wanted to take him away by force. I thought at the time, just take him away, it's too annoying. But I thought of what my mother said before she died, asking us to take care of each other, so I ran up and brought him back. I told him that I was lost, and took him to buy some sesame cakes. Since then, Qingye has been much more obedient than before."

After listening to this, Song Li looked at Jiang Qingzhou quietly. Song Li was thinking about what she should say to him. It seemed that she couldn't say anything, whether to sympathize or blame him.

The leaves above were blown even louder by the wind. Song Li pointed at the swallows flying over the courtyard wall and said to Jiang Qingzhou, "The swallows are flying so low. It may rain."

Jiang Qingzhou followed Song Li's finger and saw the low-flying swallows. Song Li turned her head and smiled at him, her bright eyes full of joy.

Jiang Qingzhou seemed to be infected by this joy, and he smiled at Song Li. Song Li looked at the boy in front of her who was a few months younger than her, made a face, and said to him: "You are only fifteen years old, don't keep focusing on the past."

The breeze is still blowing gently, and the weather in June is neither too cold nor too hot.

Song Li spoke slowly, in a voice that only she could hear, "I like spring very much. I used to like a passage very much: In the early spring, spring clothes are ready. Five or six boys and six or seven men with hats go out to bathe in the Yi River, enjoy the breeze in the Wu Yu Temple, and sing on their way home. I envy the tranquility and freedom in this passage. But I haven't had time to see the crabapple blossoms in spring, nor have I had time to plant a climbing rose that I like, and I came here to see this world that I have never seen or known before."

Jiang Qingzhou watched Song Li's lips opening and closing as she said something. He tried his best to listen, but all he heard was the rustling sound of the locust tree. He felt even more lost.

Song Li saw that little Zhang You was rubbing his eyes with both hands and was a little upset, so she walked over to little Zhang You and held him in her arms. Song Li rocked back and forth, humming a ballad, and little Zhang You fell asleep in a short while.

Jiang Qingzhou also walked over. Song Li whispered, "He's asleep. I'll put him in the room. If your cousin's wife comes, please tell her." After Song Li finished speaking, she walked away holding little Zhang You.

Jiang Qingzhou jumped up, picked a leaf from the tree, put it to his mouth and blew it.
