Siheyuan: I am a big capitalist after the founding of the People's Republic of China
Chapter 8 Going to school
Time passed quickly, and after the beginning of spring, the weather became warmer and the land thawed. After some simple repairs by the master craftsman last time, the construction officially started this time.
In the past, my grandfather was worried that a grand reconstruction of the courtyard house would attract attention. But with the blessing of his parents, the old man was relieved. So he simply rebuilt it inside and out.
After half a year of renovation, the courtyard was completed by the end of August. The gatehouse was converted into a guest room, and some flowers and plants were planted in the small garden.
2. Entering the courtyard, one of the east wing rooms was converted into a kitchen and dining room, and the other was converted into a living room. The east wing's ear room was connected to running water and converted into a washroom for bathing, washing clothes, brushing teeth, and washing face.
The two west wing rooms and the ear room were connected and turned into my own residence. After my own suggestions, the interior of the west wing was decorated as I wanted. The north ear room of the west wing was divided into two with a partition in the middle.
On one side is the washing area, and on the other side is the cloakroom. The wall connecting the west wing also has two sliding doors. In the west wing, next to the cloakroom and the washing room, is a bed, facing east and west, facing the window sill, a Qing Dynasty gold and water craft small leaf red sandalwood bed.
There is a fireplace combining Chinese and Western styles under the windowsill. Two Qing Dynasty rosewood flower and bird screens are used to separate the hall and bedroom. Opposite the hall is a Qing Dynasty Chinese living room, with a long table, an eight-immortal table, and armchairs on both sides.
Because the living room is big enough, a screen is used to divide it into half a study room. In the study room, there is a 1.5-meter-long and 50-centimeter-wide desk and an armchair. There is also a unique asparagus fern bonsai on the desk. There is a bookcase against the wall.
The most unique thing is that the right side room at the other end of the west wing is connected to the main house. It uses glass door cabinets to create a 40-square-meter indoor tropical bird-raising area. The 40-square-meter space has green plants, a small rockery, a pool, and a turtle-raising beach. The layout is magnificent.
Li Zihang took great pains to raise the birds he bought a year ago. He ran around, spent money, and used his connections to get the materials for decorating this indoor tropical rainforest. He even opened two large skylights for this purpose.
The overall layout of the west wing, 125 square meters, was lined up in a row. After the decoration was completed, the old man gave himself a thumbs up and said that he was a master who knew how to enjoy life. He kept boasting that he was destined to be a young master. Most people would not dare to think about it. At such a young age, the posture of carrying a bird cage was comparable to that of a prince in the Qing Dynasty.
The old man only made some minor repairs to the north house without making any changes. The 600-square-meter back garden also rebuilt the previously abandoned rockery, fish pond, pavilion, and corridor.
However, 200 square meters of open space was left for growing vegetables. A chicken farm was also built along the wall. The warehouse was renovated but not decorated.
From then on, Li Zihang began to live the life of a prince at home and a poor little boy when he went out. The old man repeatedly told him that in the new government and new society, he must keep a low profile when he went out. Even the clothes he wore when he went out were no different from other children except that they were a little cleaner and neater.
Just like that, she read books and played with birds at home every day. After one month, in September, the old man found a school for her and enrolled in school. Xiao Yushui also went to school with her. Since Xiao Yushui was adopted as a granddaughter by her grandparents, her food and clothes were dressed up like a young lady by her grandma. This also made other residents in the yard envious.
Yan Fugui would chat with the old man whenever he had something to do. He tried to make the old man accept Yan Jiecheng as his grandson, but the old man ignored him and pretended not to understand.
The old man would occasionally help the poor families in the courtyard. But for those who wanted to take advantage of his family, the old man would just say, "You say your thing, I don't understand," and ignore them.
The Jia family was the worst. They had so many little tricks that I was even a little scared when I saw Jia Zhang. Now I would rather go out through the side door of my house than through the main door.
In the past few months, whenever the old man was free, he would take me to visit relatives and friends. I got to know the old man's network of relationships. Sometimes he would also take me out of the city to the countryside to get to know the relatives in my own family and the Five Barbarians.
Among the friends who visited my grandfather, there was an old professor who could speak three languages. My grandfather told me that his old friend went abroad to study at the end of the Westernization Movement. He stayed abroad for 3 years and traveled to most Western countries.
I am fluent in English, Russian and German. Having suffered from lack of education in my previous life, I begged my grandfather to take me to learn foreign languages from the old professor.
When the old professor saw that the old professor was the grandson of his old friend and was smart and precocious, he readily agreed. However, he did not want him to be his apprentice, but to acknowledge him as his godfather.
From then until the start of school, he went to his grandfather's house every day to learn foreign languages. He Yuzhu, who was nine years older than him, also stopped going to school. He Daqing used his connections to send him to the Emei Restaurant as an apprentice.
From then on, He Yushui was taken care of by her grandmother. Except when she went back to her own house to sleep, she was taken care of by her grandmother the rest of the time. In the blink of an eye, school started in September, and she and Xiao Yushui officially enrolled in Heizhima Hutong Primary School.
Carrying a military green canvas schoolbag with the words "Serve the People" printed on it, the two 6-year-old kids have become first-grade primary school students. They are sent to school by their grandmother, and after school in the afternoon, they will take Yu Shui to their grandfather's house to learn foreign languages.
The old man went to his old friend's place in the evening to pick him and Yushui up. He Daqing was embarrassed to give money to his grandfather for Yushui's school and meals. But he was rejected by his grandfather and grandmother. They said that it was not a big deal. Besides, Yushui was their goddaughter. It was normal to spend money on Yushui!
In the second half of the same year, war broke out on the northern peninsula.
As a family of martyrs and a well-known capitalist, the Li family donated materials and money to the government.
In exchange for a plaque of a patriot.
In my previous life, I did odd jobs before I graduated from junior high school, and moved to Beijing with my uncle at the age of 19. I am not very clear about some modern history.
But I still know a little bit about some important historical events after the founding of the country. The plaques hanging in the house and the honorary plaques of my parents were like life-saving talismans for a period of time afterwards!
After the war broke out on the northern peninsula, the whole country entered a military control phase! Every day on the way to school, I would encounter teams of fully armed soldiers patrolling in military uniforms. The supplies on the market began to become insufficient. The food for myself also began to become relatively poor. However, white flour and rice were still in stock. Meat dishes became less.
Jia Dongxu, who lives in the compound, is 40 years old. The Jia family started to arrange blind dates for Jia Dongxu. However, the blind dates failed several times because of the house issue! A family of three lives in a -square-meter house, and it is a problem where to live after getting married. This also made Old Jia and Jia Zhangshi have a crooked idea. They set their sights on the empty gatehouse in their house.
That day, Old Jia and his wife Jia Zhang came to the old man to rent the empty gatehouse in his yard! The old man had lived through the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, and the establishment of the new government! He had seen all kinds of people, and he could tell at a glance that the Jia family was an ungrateful person. He politely refused and sent the guests away...
