Splendid Twins

Chapter 5 Human Traffickers

After leaving the city, Si Yao did not go west, but hired a carriage to come to Huafa Temple.

The temple was very popular. Si Yao bought a bunch of incense and walked to the Buddhist temple. Besides the pilgrims who were kowtowing and praying, there was an old monk at the door, leaning back in a chair with his eyes closed, basking in the sun.

Si Yao kowtowed before the Buddha, burned incense, then walked up to the old monk and whispered something to him. Pilgrims came and went in the temple, and the Buddha, who was high above and had compassion for all living beings, listened tirelessly to their requests.

Si Yao came out of the Buddhist temple and came to the back mountain. He found a sunny hillside to stop, and when he saw that there was no one around, he took out a military shovel from the space, rolled up his sleeves and started digging directly from the soft soil.

Half an hour later, Si Yao took out several pieces of clothes from the space, including a gorgeous embroidered skirt and a fine fox fur cloak. Si Yao put them all into the pit and calculated the time. When the auspicious time came, she immediately started digging and buried them.

She built a cenotaph for Zhou Yao. The reason she was able to survive in this strange dynasty was that she occupied Zhou Yao's body!

After the ceremony, the sun just moved up into the sky. Next to it were tall and sturdy pine trees. A cool breeze blew, and looking around, you could see the endless mountains in the distance. Standing here, you could see the entire Huafa Temple at a glance!

Si Yao originally wanted to pick some flowers and put them nearby. It was early autumn now and the flowers and plants were beginning to wither. She remembered that there were sunflower seeds in the space that she had bought before. She took out a handful and scattered them around a week. Next year, a field of sunflowers should grow.

Zhou Yao, no matter whose daughter you are reborn as, don't forget to love yourself!

Always be full of hope, love yourself, and live towards the sun!

Si Yao felt a little soreness in her chest, and then it disappeared as if blown away by the wind. She felt a lot more relaxed. She knew that from this moment on, she was the real Si Yao!

Leaving Huafa Temple along the road behind the mountain, she saw many luxurious carriages parked in front of the front gate. She didn't want to meet anyone she had known before.

Huafa Temple was famous for its efficacy. The wives of the powerful and wealthy in Dai Viet would burn incense before the Buddha on the first and fifteenth days of every month. Zhou Yao's tablet would be placed in the temple to receive incense, indicating her fortune of wealth and honor, and that she would have no worries about food and clothing in her next life.

Si Yao changed into an ordinary dress and carried an ordinary small bag in her hand, but even so, people still noticed her on the road.

"Where is this little sister going? We can go together."

Si Yao turned her head and looked over. There was a donkey cart parked on the side of the road. An old man was sitting at the front of the cart, and the person who was talking was a woman standing next to him.

Si Yao didn't say anything. The woman took two steps forward, staring at Si Yao's extremely beautiful face. A hint of jealousy flashed across her eyes. Thinking she had concealed it very well, Si Yao took a step back.

"Look, I forgot. My father and I came to Beijing to visit relatives. Today, we are going back to our hometown. Seeing that my sister is alone, I thought of finding a companion so that I can take care of her."

Before Si Yao could speak, the old man at the front of the car spoke:

"Hurry up and go. It will be dark if you delay any longer. Your mother is still waiting."

The woman said to the old man:

"Don't worry, Daddy. We won't be able to get home tonight anyway."

He turned his head and said to Si Yao:

"My name is Qin Xianglian, where is my sister?"

"Si Yao."

"Then I will call you Sister Si. My home is in the west. Looking at the direction you are heading, it is on the same route as ours."

Si Yao suddenly became interested, and raised the corner of her mouth:

"Yeah, on the way."

Qin Xianglian was visibly happy. She walked up to Si Yao with a familiar manner and greeted him enthusiastically, like a close friend:

"Come on, let's get on the cart. Walking is too tiring. Sister, don't look at my cart as small. It's very comfortable to sit on."

Seeing that there were only a few people around, Si Yao agreed:

"Then I'll trouble you. I can pay for it."

When the old man heard this, his eyes narrowed slightly and a gleam of light flashed.

Si Yao was not modest either. He got on the donkey cart and sat beside it. Qin Xianglian followed closely and squeezed in beside it.

"Sister Si, what are you doing?"

"To develop business."

Qin Xianglian looked confused: "Develop, develop business?"

Si Yao pretended to smile mysteriously:

"Yes, it's the end of the year, we need to get more goods to make money!"

The old man paused with his whip, then lightly dropped his hand onto the donkey's back.

Qin Xianglian moved her face closer to Si Yao and asked in a low voice:

"Sister Si, what business are you in? I promise I won't tell anyone."

Si Yao noticed the old man's ears sticking up high, and a hint of deep meaning flashed in his eyes:

"Passing some toys."

Qin Xianglian took a breath and said excitedly:

"That's a lot of money. Rich people are scrambling to buy fine jade."

Si Yao did not correct him and continued:

"It depends on what kind of stuff they are. Some people may not even want it even if they pay you."

"That's true, sister, you are amazing. We country folk can only dig for food in the fields and don't know how to do business at all."

As Qin Xianglian spoke, she carefully examined the bag that Si Yao had placed beside her. How could a person who went out on business not have any money in his bag!

He glanced at the old man calmly, then took out a kettle from somewhere, as if to prove something, drank a sip himself, and then handed it to Si Yao:

"Sister Si, take a sip too. This is honey-sweetened sugar water. The weather is dry and the wind will cause your lips to chafe. We girls have to take care of ourselves."

Si Yao pretended to be embarrassed and shook her head:

"no, I'm fine."

"Take a sip, it's still warm. Could it be that your sister dislikes you?"

Si Yao pretended to be enthusiastic and had to take it over:

"Thank you very much."

Seeing Si Yao take a sip, Qin Xianglian's eyes flashed with malice. She turned her head to look at the old man who was already smiling slyly. These two people thought they were hiding well, but they didn't know that Si Yao had been prepared for it.

"Sister Si, I'm going to sleep for a while. If you're sleepy, you can sleep for a while. My father will call you when we get to the junction."

"it is good."

Si Yao was a little puzzled. The system showed that there were unknown creatures following her, so why hadn’t they appeared yet?

After a while, seeing Qin Xianglian fell asleep, Si Yao whispered:

"Very sleepy."

After saying that, he tilted his head and fell asleep.

The old man was completely relieved upon seeing this. He turned the donkey cart around and whipped it hard. The donkey, in pain, started to trot while pulling the cart.

Si Yao opened his eyes slightly and saw that he had returned. A murderous intent flashed in his eyes. He caught a glimpse of Qin Xianglian pretending to sleep, and slashed at her with a knife. This time, Qin Xianglian fainted completely!

The old man driving the cart seemed to have noticed something. He turned his head and looked directly at Si Yao's expressionless face. He was startled and then he reacted and raised the whip in his hand and hit Si Yao!

However, Si Yao took the lead and kicked the old man directly on the head with his long leg. After falling off the donkey cart, the old man's face suddenly became panicked.

"Run again!"

Si Yao jumped out of the car and stomped on the old man's chest, causing him to gasp for air on the spot. His face turned red and he grimaced:

"You're pretending to be faint?"

Si Yao sneered: "You two are not familiar with creatures?"

The old man didn't understand what Si Yao said and he had no ability to resist at that moment. The woman stomped on his ribs and broke them. It was so abominable that he had been hunting falcons for years but ended up getting his eyes pecked by a goose!

Si Yao pulled Qin Xianglian off and threw her next to the old man. Seeing the old man's unwilling expression, he asked:

"Her name is Qin Xianglian, are you Chen Shimei?"

The old man looked shocked, but he was inexplicably excited: "You know me?"

"I rely on!"

Si Yao knocked the old man unconscious with a cold face, looted the documents and silver from the two men, found a rope to tie them up and threw them on the donkey cart. She forgot to mention that she had great strength because of her space. She had never lost in strength competition with those special forces in the military camp!

The matchmaker in the population market looked at the two unconscious people with a frozen expression. Old man Chen was one of her customers and he had delivered goods to her many times over the years, but now he was being brought in as merchandise!

Speak slowly:

"You are young and pretty, so I will give you three taels of silver."

"Four taels, at least there are two of us."

Si Yao crossed his arms and bargained slowly.

"The woman is average looking, and I don't want this old man even if he gives him money!"

Si Yao's eyes flashed with regret, "Okay."

He simply sold the two men into criminal slaves, and after they signed their names and sealed the deal, he took the money and left. It was so quick and easy.

He took the three taels of silver, bought all the food, and drove the donkey cart slowly towards Sijia Village.
