Rebirth of the Republic of China: The Story of the Chaebol

Chapter 204 The flourishing discipline of traditional Chinese medicine

Speaking of Nanhua’s four major journals, since Hu Cheng created these four journals in Longguo, after decades of development, as Nanhua’s national status has continued to rise, the status of these four major journals in the academic community has also continued to improve.

To this day, the four major journals remain the world's top academic journals.

Today, the journals that are qualified to be compared with the Big Four are the top journals such as The Lancet, Cell, Nature, and Science.

Moreover, because Nanhua’s four major journals are single-disciplinary journals, many of the world’s top scientific researchers are now more willing to publish their papers in the four major journals.

However, there are differences in quality among the four major journals. Compared with the three older brothers, "Medicine", which was established a little later, is still slightly inferior to the other three journals in terms of influence.

Of course, there is another reason why Medicine journal is not as influential as the other three, that is, Medicine has a direct competitor, The Lancet.

Compared with the global influence of The Lancet, Medicine, a younger journal, will naturally not be the first choice for European and American medical workers to publish papers. This makes Medicine's influence always lower than that of The Lancet.

However, this situation is slowly changing with the rise of Nanhua Medicine.

Because Nanhua has always attached equal importance to traditional Chinese and Western medicine, the "Medicine" magazine not only includes Western medicine papers, but also traditional Chinese medicine papers. This also allows the world to witness the magic of traditional Chinese medicine that has been developed for thousands of years.

In the beginning, many foreigners regarded Chinese medicine as a kind of witchcraft, and they even regarded it as a manifestation of Chinese people’s ignorance.

But once they came into contact with the magic of traditional Chinese medicine, the foreigners stopped being stubborn.

In fact, nowadays in the Nanhua Royal College of Medicine and the Nanhua University of Chinese Medicine, you can see many foreign faces studying Chinese medicine seriously.

As traditional Chinese medicine gradually becomes popular, many foreigners suddenly discover that diseases that used to be very dangerous in their eyes actually have many simple and effective treatment methods in traditional Chinese medicine.

In particular, Chinese medicine's massage, acupuncture, cupping and scraping, after continuous promotion by Nanhua, have become popular all over the world in just over ten years.

However, although the development of traditional Chinese medicine in Nanhua is in full swing, when it comes to foundation, the confidence of traditional Chinese medicine in Nanhua is actually not as good as that in Longguo.

As TCM becomes more and more famous abroad, the old Chinese medicine practitioners in Long Country are also slowly becoming famous. Some of them came to foreign countries a few years ago, but they had a hard time living because foreigners didn't believe in them at all. But now the situation has reversed.

Nowadays, many veteran Chinese medicine practitioners living overseas have become guests of honor for foreign dignitaries. Among them, one even became the personal physician of the President of Gaul. Can you believe this?

However, although traditional Chinese medicine has developed rapidly, it is not without any hidden dangers.

Compared with Western medicine, Chinese medicine places more emphasis on experience, which has resulted in many Chinese medicine practitioners being mediocre, and some even simply deceiving people.

In order to deal with this situation, Nanhua set up a Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. The only function of this association is to systematically assess the level of traditional Chinese medicine doctors and give them ratings.

Nanhua divides traditional Chinese medicine into five levels. The lowest level is naturally the apprentice. Doctors at this level are not actually considered regular doctors, so apprentices are not allowed to treat others.

Above the apprentice level are prescribing doctors. Doctors at this level still do not have the qualifications to treat patients, but because they are familiar with medical books and can recognize various types of Chinese medicine, they can dispense medicine according to the prescriptions written by the doctor.

Above the doctors who prescribe medicine are the doctors who use medicine. These people have formally studied the basic theories of Chinese medicine, and understand physiology and pathology, principles, methods, and prescriptions, but they are not very good at applying them, so they can only treat general diseases, and they will be helpless with slightly more complicated diseases.

Becoming a doctor of this level is already qualified to treat patients in the hospital, but their medical qualifications are still limited. In the hospital, they must be accompanied by a master to be qualified to treat patients, otherwise they are not allowed to contact patients alone.

To put it bluntly, the above three levels of Chinese medicine are still in the stage of learning and accumulation. Generally speaking, a person can become a medication doctor after studying Chinese medicine for five or six years, and then after accumulating five or six years of experience, he or she can pass the next level, which is the qualification of a dialectical doctor.

The so-called dialectical doctors have put a lot of effort into traditional Chinese medicine and can deal with most common diseases. At present, most of the traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in the country's traditional Chinese medicine hospitals are basically doctors of this level. In fact, it is not so easy for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to continue to upgrade to the fifth level after reaching this level.

As for why it is difficult, just by hearing the name of the fifth-level "National Player", I think everyone can understand why it is difficult to be promoted to this level, right?

As I just said, most dialectical doctors can only treat some common diseases. They are not necessarily helpless when it comes to those uncommon and extremely difficult to treat diseases, but in general, most dialectical doctors cannot touch this field. However, it is different for Chinese medicine practitioners who are qualified to become national masters.

At this level, doctors are already able to skillfully apply TCM theories to diagnose and treat diseases, independently analyze problems, and solve them.

Even if he encounters a complicated disease, no matter how complicated the problem is or how serious the condition is, as long as he is involved, even if the disease is not cured immediately, he will be able to untie the knot like unravelling a cocoon, and then just a little guidance will make the patient recover.

In fact, there is a level above the national level, but no one can reach this level at present, so this last level only exists in theory. There are only a few people in the entire history of the Dragon Kingdom who are qualified to be rated at this level. Bian Que, the ancestor of medical practitioners, can be counted as one, and Hua Tuo, Zhang Zhongjing, Sun Simiao, and Li Shizhen can also be counted.

In addition to the above-mentioned people, people like Qian Yi, Ye Tianshi, Huangfu Mi, Wang Shuhe and others are also qualified for the evaluation, but apart from them, there are really not many famous doctors who are truly qualified to reach this level!
