HP: I just wanted to drop out of school, but I saved the world
Chapter 117: Paper Covers Fire
"Albus," Professor McGonagall said with some concern, "The students' health has been worrying lately... My classes have not been full for several weeks in a row."
Professor Sprout and Professor Flitwick nodded, their classes were also experiencing the same situation, with a terrible attendance rate. Students were either suffering from diarrhea and vomiting or had the flu, which could infect the entire dormitory, as well as the desks in front, behind, and around them, making the deans very worried about the students' health.
"This may be a new disease." Professor Sprout's gentle face was now full of anxiety. "It is spreading in the school. Symptoms may include headache, runny nose, fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., and it spreads very quickly."
Professor Flitwick made a nervous sound in his throat in agreement, and pulled a thick sheaf of notes from his pocket:
"This is all those poor children's—"
He wiped the corners of his eyes and sighed:
"I exempted them from their homework and papers, and I hope the children can recover soon."
Speaking of the thesis, Professor McGonagall seemed to have thought of something:
"Speaking of which, I feel that the quality of the assignments submitted by students has declined recently. I suspect that the course progress is a bit too fast."
Professor Sprout felt the same way, and understanding immediately appeared in her eyes.
"Oh, Minerva, I think so too!" Her grey hair swayed slightly as she nodded. "Perhaps it's because I changed the order of the lessons and taught about the bubble pods earlier that many students haven't been able to hand in their homework."
Professor Flitwick said that there was nothing to worry about because he had experienced something even more frightening:
"When I was on night patrol this week, I found that there were suddenly more students wandering around at night—"
"Albus, although I have no intention of blaming the Ministry of Magic, I have to say that letting Dementors guard the campus is an extremely wrong decision."
"Students are very interested in these dangerous dark creatures and they all want to see them in person to verify whether the knowledge they have learned in textbooks is correct."
Professor McGonagall and Professor Sprout gasped.
"Merlin - how dare they!"
"That's one of the ugliest things in the world!"
As Dumbledore listened to the professors talking to each other, he felt something was increasingly wrong.
Students collectively asked for leave, collectively did not hand in their homework, and went out at night to see the Dementors...
It sounds like something is not right.
He had been a principal for so many years, and he had never heard of a small flu knocking everyone down.
His keen intuition instantly reminded him of someone who had been keeping to himself for a while.
She has been attending school obediently for more than a month. This is not normal!
The inexplicable sense of disobedience made Dumbledore unable to help but ask:
"Excuse me for interrupting your conversation, Minerva, Pomona, Filius."
"I want to ask, has Jade Jane appeared in class in the past two weeks?"
The professors all smiled when they mentioned this good student.
Professor Sprout smiled so much that the wrinkles on the corners of his eyes were visible, and he said in a very loving tone:
"Of course, she never asked for leave. We just learned about bubble pods last week, and I asked the students to shell the beans--"
"Guess what, in her hands those plump pink pods behaved just like regular peas!"
Professor McGonagall also nodded in agreement:
"She's doing very well. She's learned Transfiguration beautifully. Maybe she can become an Animagus in the future."
Professor Flitwick waved his arms in agreement:
"Oh, she has an unparalleled talent in magic! She can cast any spell once she's taught!"
Listening to their compliments, Dumbledore felt relieved.
Although he was very happy to hear his child being praised——
But he always felt something was strange.
He rubbed his eyebrows and felt that he couldn't doubt Jian Yu without any basis.
"Glad to hear that." Dumbledore raised his teacup to signal, "Let's get back to business. Why don't we call Severus and ask him about his Potions class?"
Snape arrived at the headmaster's office in a speed that could almost be calculated in seconds.
He held a thick stack of parchment in his hand. His face was as dark as the black robe fluttering behind him. His sallow face was stiff, and every wrinkle on his face, which was wrinkled with anger, drooped downwards.
"I can't believe that the students at Hogwarts are of this level." He threw the pile of parchment on the table beside him. "Having such students really makes me infamous in the education world and ruined -"
"Severus, don't worry, what happened?"
The professors tried to comfort their angry colleague, somewhat confused as to why.
Something big must have happened to cause Snape to lose his composure in the headmaster's office.
But Snape snorted coldly and pointed at the parchment:
"The level of potion essays written by your students is truly astonishing—"
Professor McGonagall picked up the parchment and looked through its contents, only to find that it was a stack of newly handed-in student assignments with a grade of T.
"Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, Mr. Finnigan, Mr. Thomas..."
The more she looked at him, the more serious she became. The smile on her face disappeared completely, and she was so angry at the Gryffindors that her hands began to shake:
"Pomona, Filius, I think you need to look at this..."
She pulled out the Gryffindor assignments and handed the rest to Professor Flitwick.
Now there was one more professor who lost his smile. The headmaster of Ravenclaw looked at them one by one, and his anger almost overwhelmed his brain:
"Ms. Dupin, Miss Blocher, Mr. Goldstein, Mr. Boot, Mr. Kohner..."
Professor Flitwick looked like he was having a hypertensive attack.
He never expected that someone in Ravenclaw, a nation known for its wisdom, could write such rubbish!
It's really embarrassing for him!
Professor Sprout took the parchments puzzledly and began to look for Hufflepuff students among them.
"Merlin—" she exclaimed, "They are all Ts (Trolls). This is terrible!"
"Ms. Bones, Mr. MacMillan, Mr. Finch-Fletchley... I can't believe it!"
Now all the professors present lost their smiles.
Seeing more than one person being tortured like this made Snape feel a little better. He spoke coldly:
"Now that you have an understanding of the students' situation, let's get back to the point."
Dumbledore hesitated for a few seconds and said:
"Oh - Severus, in fact, we asked you to come here today precisely for this matter."
"Recently, many students have been absent due to colds and their homework quality is poor. Do you have any idea about this?"
But Snape snorted coldly, crossed his arms, and leaned back on the chair cushion:
"No one in my class has asked for leave in the past few weeks--"
As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions of the other three deans changed drastically.
"No one? Severus?" Professor Sprout couldn't believe it. "Then why...we..."
Snape answered her bluntly, shattering the last glimmer of hope of the Hufflepuff Headmaster:
"Yes, no one, Pomona."
"Perhaps you should think about whether you have been too kind to these trolls, allowing them to feign illness without restraint."
Professor Sprout pressed his chest and felt like he was about to have a heart attack.
Everyone present looked at the usually gentle and kind witch with horror and laughed grimly:
"Very good, very good!"
"Excuse me, Albus, guys—"
Her patched robe, stained with greenhouse dirt, fluttered up, and she rushed towards the medical wing like flying.
"Calm down, Pomona! Maybe there's a misunderstanding!"
Professors McGonagall and Flitwick came breathlessly after her, followed by Dumbledore and Snape.
They still had doubts in their hearts, always feeling that the matter was not as simple as pretending to be sick and not attending classes.
Soon they got a reply from Madam Pomfrey:
"There were no students admitted with the flu, and no one came to get medicine."
"Recently, quite a few people have been sent to the infirmary due to lack of sleep."
"They're sleeping here, talking in their sleep, mumbling about 'game consoles'?"
Several deans showed puzzled expressions.
"What's a video game console?" Professor McGonagall asked curiously.
"Well... it's an item used for entertainment..." Dumbledore explained with difficulty, "It is very attractive to children."
Now everyone showed a ferocious smile.
They complained that students were skipping classes and not doing their homework!
It turns out that they are all addicted to having fun and have no ambition to make progress!
Dumbledore's eyes also went dark and he felt like he was going to faint.
He remembered that Jane had played games with the LeMays for a whole summer when she was in first grade.
This game console must have been brought into school by her!
He knew that this matter had something to do with her!
No wonder she kept to herself for a few months—
Sure enough, he was holding back a big one!
