Chapter 534: Lafitte's Past
On the way, Chu Ming drove the car for Gin earnestly, but Gin sat in the passenger seat with his eyes closed and had no intention of speaking at all.
Chu Ming couldn't hold back and stepped on the brakes. The speeding car suddenly stopped. Chu Ming made preparations in advance and steadied his body. However, Gin was unconsciously thrown forward by Chu Ming's sudden kick. Then he immediately used his waist to steady his body. He looked around with sharp eyes, and when he found no danger, he turned his gaze to Chu Ming.
Chu Ming turned his face away and didn't look at Gin. He muttered something that Gin couldn't hear at all, but he knew it wasn't a good thing.
"..."If looks could kill, Chu Ming would have died seven or eight times by now.
Gin didn't say anything for a long while. Chu Ming turned his head back, looked at his face and asked: "Are you angry?"
"drive."
Chu Ming leaned back in his chair, his face not looking good: "I'm not angry yet, you were like a saw-mouthed gourd and didn't say a word the whole way, you didn't even talk about the gossip we agreed to share, you just leaned back in your chair and fell asleep, I drove for you for nothing? Do you really think I'm your driver?"
With his current status, driving for Gin can be considered as being humble!
"It's not that I won't tell you." Gin thought for a long time and spoke carefully, "It's just that there's nothing to say."
???
Chu Ming was confused and looked at Gin, motioning him to elaborate.
Gin took out a cigarette, then thought about putting it back. Chu Ming took the cigarette butt eagerly, handed it to Gin, and then rolled down the window: "Brother, you smoke, don't worry about me."
Gin didn't refuse. He bit the cigarette butt and took a puff, then slowly exhaled a cloud of misty smoke: "I told you before that Lafitte was the world-famous brain surgeon Rob Rex."
Chu Ming acted as a good listener, responding from time to time: "Yeah."
"The Rex family was a famous British medical family in the last century, but there was a serious struggle for power within the family. When Lafitte joined the organization, he was dying, and he volunteered to be the drug tester for the boss."
Gin spoke neither fast nor slow, but his words were bland. No matter how explosive the news was, it always felt like it lost its flavor when it came out of his mouth. But there was nothing he could do, as Gin was the only one around him who knew these gossips. He just had to make do with it.
However, this passage can only explain that Lafitte does not like infighting, but Gin did not mention the story between him and Vermouth at all.
"So what's going on between him and Vermouth? I think there seems to be some story between him and Vermouth..."
Gin frowned: "What story?"
"Aren't I asking you?" Chu Ming was speechless. How could the question be thrown back to himself?
The story is not good, and even the storyteller himself is unaware of some things. Tsk, the melon is not sweet and it is not pleasant to eat.
Chu Ming looked back at Gin again. He had finished eating the unpalatable melon, so he might as well just leave Gin here...
Suddenly, Gin spoke again: "Although the Resk family was famous, it was just a beautiful facade because of the decline of talent. The internal expenditure was insufficient, so the solution adopted by the head of that generation was to cut down the useless side branches. Although Lafitte belongs to the side branch, he showed a talent for medicine at a young age. With him, their branch naturally does not need to be cut down."
Chu Ming, based on his years of experience watching melodramatic TV series, put his hand on his neck and scratched it, guessing: "Could it be that the head of the family is jealous of his talent and is afraid that his next generation will not be able to match him, so he hired someone to kill him——?"
"No, it's his 'friend'." Gin's voice was full of obvious sarcasm. "Lafitte was world-famous for his brain science back then. He got to know a lot of people through this. At that time, the head of the Resk family was old, and his two sons were fighting for power. Both of them were trying to win over Lafitte. Although Lafitte grew up with the youngest son of the head of the family and had a deep friendship, he knew that his 'good friend' was actually no match for his sinister and vicious brother, so he advised him to give up."
"The eldest son heard about this from somewhere. He felt that Lafitte had a deeper relationship with his brother. Although he advised his brother to give up, he had no intention of getting close to him. In the power struggle, those who are not on his side are naturally enemies. Since he can't get it, he might as well destroy it. He invited Lafitte to a meeting, and then spread the news that Lafitte had surrendered to him."
"When the younger brother heard the news, he believed it without questioning it. In his opinion, Lafitte's persuasion of him to surrender to his brother was already a betrayal, and this news only further confirmed his thoughts.
So when Lafitte was going back, his brother sent people to block him on the roadside, smashed his fingers with stones, splashed water on him when he fainted from the pain, and cut his tendons in his hands and feet. Finally, he pretended to say that although Lafitte had taken refuge with his brother, he would not kill him because of the friendship they had grown up together.
Chu Ming was stunned by the amount of information Gin provided. It turned out that this was why Lafitte hated fighting for power: "And then what? None of this has anything to do with Vermouth!"
"Lafitte's status in the organization is actually higher than Vermouth." Gin suddenly said something irrelevant.
"But Lafitte obviously respects Vermouth. I thought it was because Vermouth is the boss's relative, so he gave her some face. Isn't that right..." Chu Ming understood something instantly and guessed, "Was Lafitte saved by Vermouth?"
Gin nodded slightly: "According to the files, Lafitte was introduced to the organization by Vermouth, and the experiment that year was completed by the two of them together."
"Were Vermouth and Lafitte the only two people who participated in the experiment back then?" Chu Ming stood up. "What kind of experiment was that?"
Gin took a deep puff of his cigarette, and his usually sharp eyes became gloomy. "The experiment to break through the shackles of life, the number of people who participated in the experiment, whether voluntarily or forced, was estimated to be over ten thousand, but only Lafitte and Vermouth survived."
"Didn't the boss participate in that experiment?" Chu Ming was a little confused, "I thought--"
"The boss is a cautious person. He won't take that step unless he is completely sure." Gin threw the cigarette butt out of the car window. "I've heard what you wanted to hear. Let's drive."
Chu Ming actually had a lot more questions he wanted to ask, but it was obvious that Gin felt that he had said too much and stopped talking, so he just shut up and started driving.
Forget it, I'll find a chance to ask Vermouth later.
Gin is becoming more and more impatient. When he was his younger brother, his attitude was quite kind. But now that he has a higher status, Gin is not willing to tell him stories.
Alas, the world is becoming more corrupt and people’s hearts are no longer the same as they used to be. Could it be that Gin is jealous of his status... right?
