Mortal Mage

Chapter 21 The Secret of the Prince

The imperial master of the Taicang Empire can only fight against monks from enemy countries and cannot participate in the politics of the country.

So it is under the Ministry of War, but has no rank.

Zhang Mingxuan originally wanted to establish a relationship with these two people, but he didn't expect them to be of such character, so he lost interest.

He didn't have time to read the book in peace, as a clerk from the Ministry of War handed him a military report, a letter of appointment and a token.

"A letter of appointment to supervise the Northwest Army?"

When Zhang Mingxuan opened it, his heart was filled with excitement.

As expected, he was sent to the battlefield. Without saying a word, he was transferred to the Ministry of War and then directly inserted into the army.

But fortunately, he was just a military supervisor, a minor official in the army who was responsible for military statistics.

"I knew it was going to be bad, and sure enough, they rushed into the battlefield without saying anything."

He had thought that it would take at least a year and a half to prepare for the national war, but he never imagined that in just over a month, all kinds of military supplies and orders for the entire empire had already been prepared.

-

After putting away the letter of appointment and the military supervisory token, Zhang Mingxuan left the court after a day of confusion.

As soon as he walked out of the gate of Taihe Palace, he saw Wang Han running towards him from the palace with an oil-paper package in his hands and a mouthful of white teeth grinning under his dark face.

"Master Zhang, Master Zhang! Wait for me!"

Wang Han shouted behind him.

Zhang Mingxuan slowed down his pace and waited for Wang Han to come up to him and hand him the oil paper package. "Master Zhang, I bought you the best roast chicken on West Street in Taihe City!"

He stared at Wang Han curiously. The Han stealthily pulled Zhang Mingxuan away from the palace gate and to a secluded corner.

"Master Zhang, I have found out some things about the Crown Prince for you. I wonder if this is what you want to know."

Wang Han looked around and whispered to Zhang Mingxuan.

The corner is under the eaves of a shop at the foot of the city wall outside the palace, and it is a sparsely populated place.

Zhang Mingxuan just asked casually that day, and he didn't say what he wanted to know about the prince, but he never thought that Wang Han would take it so seriously.

"You said."

Zhang Mingxuan whispered back.

"I said yes, but you have to promise me one thing."

Wang Han touched the back of his head, feeling that he had said something wrong, and then corrected himself; "No, after I told you, I also wanted to ask you for a favor."

"What's the matter?"

Zhang Mingxuan replied seriously that he was a minor official of the fifth rank and although his position seemed glorious, he actually did not have much power.

"I also want to be transferred to the Ministry of War."

Wang Han said quietly.

"We're about to go to war, why are you going to the Ministry of War? I don't think I can control any of the Lingyu Guards' transfers to other departments, right?"

Zhang Mingxuan was a little surprised.

"The Feather Guards in our palace are different from those outside the palace. Although they are also Feather Guards, their transfer is decided by the Attendant Bureau."

Wang Han explained in a low voice.

"Oh~ Then I'm not from the Attendant Bureau either."

He guessed there were some unspoken rules involved, so he pretended not to understand.

"Master Zhang, you just need to say hello to the chief eunuch of the Ministry of War and hand over some silver."

Wang Han said quietly.

"That's easy. How much silver will it cost?"

This kind of unspoken rule was common in the palace, and Wang Han was honest and straightforward, so he agreed immediately.

"A small flag like ours only needs seven or eight taels of silver to mobilize."

Wang Han touched the back of his head and smiled naively.

"That's fine. I promise. Go ahead."

This kind of thing is just a matter of giving money.

"The prince is a monk!"

He thought it was no big deal. A world where one could cultivate immortality, the imperial court controlled the only national spiritual vein, and he expected that the prince was a cultivator. But he still pretended to be shocked.

"Although I don't know much, our general flag knows a lot. I will go to have a drink with the general flag later. If you don't mind us rough guys, you can come with me and ask the general flag in person. We are very nice people!"

Wang Han scratched his head and said.

"to make."

Zhang Mingxuan had been in Taihe City for so long, but had never made any serious friends, so he agreed without hesitation.

Wang Han smiled instantly.

How glorious it was for Wang Han to be able to invite a fifth-rank official to drink with a soldier like himself.

The place where the Feather Guards often drink is the Jiaosifang.

-

Inside the Jiaosifang, the pearl foil and silver screens are gorgeous and eye-catching.

A burst of guqin music sounded.

Sometimes the melody flows like a spring, melodious and pleasant; sometimes it is like a lingering love song, soft and graceful; sometimes it lingers in the ears, sometimes it has ups and downs, and sometimes it is lingering and sad.

The rhythm is smooth and every detail is impeccable.

It is like a touching story, fascinating and intoxicating.

-

The first floor is for general seating, where you can only listen to music and drink.

The elegant seats by the windows on the second floor are where you can not only listen to music and drink, but also watch dance and smell the fragrance.

Groups of women with dark eyebrows, pretty faces and eyes, fragrant skin and slim bodies, dressed in misty hair and cloud-like buns, half-joyed and half-dizzy, flirted with the guests.

In the hall, another group of delicate and pretty girls were dancing gracefully.

There were seats on the first floor, with seven flag officers of the Feathered Guard and a middle-aged general flag officer sitting there.

"You bastard, you're always the first one to drink every month, why are you so late today?"

The middle-aged man with a moustache and a burly build scolded and looked up at the same time.

A fifth-rank official followed behind Wang Han. He immediately stopped laughing and scolding and looked at Wang Han suspiciously.

The Lingyu Guards and the officials were not subordinate to each other and there was no etiquette between them.

However, as a fifth-rank official of the Ministry of War, the Feather Guards still had to be respectful.
