The Charles Becomes a Wizard

Chapter 28: The Stolen Gringotts

In the auditorium, students were having breakfast when a large group of owls flew in from outside the auditorium. Newspapers and letters fell from the sky, landing in front of the students one after another. Charles looked at the feathers flying everywhere and raised his hand to cover the milk in his cup.

It would be a real hassle if someone accidentally hits food while throwing something.

Charles was thinking absentmindedly when a small commotion occurred on the Gryffindor table. An owl somehow fell from the sky, slid far away along the table, and ate up everything on the table with its open wings. The little lions, whose robes were stained by the remaining food on the plates, cried out in surprise.

"Oh, you are indeed a poor Weasley." Draco curled his lips in disdain as he looked at the red-haired boy who picked up the owl from the Gryffindor table. "You can't even discipline an owl."

Somehow, this little platinum noble seemed to have an especially high hatred for Ron Weasley.

"Oh, Merlin," Zabini exclaimed, his eyes widening as he flipped through the Daily Prophet in his hand. "Gringotts was robbed!"

"Merlin's stinky socks, how is this possible!"

"Isn't Gringotts the safest place? How could it be stolen?"

"Has the criminal been caught?"

"Did you say how much was lost?"

The little snakes who were watching the Gryffindor's excitement at first started talking about it because of Zabini's words. They couldn't help but care. Which of these nobles didn't have a few vaults in Gringotts? Not to mention the gold galleons, there were also many treasures handed down from ancient times! This was related to how much they could inherit in the future!

"The newspaper said it was just a small dome. Fortunately, the owner of the dome took out the contents the day before the break-in. So it didn't cause any damage to Gringotts." Zabini said.

This time, perhaps it was a fluke. The clever little snakes exchanged glances. Who knows if this will happen again? It seems that Gringotts is not as safe as they thought. Perhaps they can remind the owner to transfer some of the gold galleons out, just in case.

With this in mind, most of the little snakes put down their cutlery and left the table in twos and threes.

"Aren't you going?" Ciel looked at Draco who was standing still beside him and asked. Ciel was not in a hurry because the Phantomhive family currently had no assets in the wizarding world. Even if the dome was stolen, it would not cause much loss to the family.

"No need." Draco fed a piece of bacon to the golden eagle that was parked in front of him. What they could think of, the heads of the families would only think more carefully. Those families who were in a hurry to write letters were not very stable. They just wanted to use a letter to make the head of the family look at them more favorably and add some weight to the future battle for the heir.

The only young master of the Malfoy family doesn't need to do such a thing.

"Actually, I don't quite understand why you think Gringotts is safe." Charles and Draco left the dining table and walked out.

"It is said that there is a dragon hiding under Gringotts. No one would be willing to risk angering a dragon by stealing from Gringotts," said Draco.

"No, what I mean is, why would you trust the goblins with your property?" In ancient times, the two sides were enemies to the death. Judging from the records in the books, the outcomes of those wars were quite tragic. But after the wars, the wizards boldly put their economic lifeline in the hands of the hostile forces...

Do you want to take a look at what you are doing?

They discriminate against fellow wizards, the Muggles and Half-bloods, because of their bloodline, but they turn around and place their trust in the goblins who almost wiped out all the wizards...

"Aren't you worried that the goblins will try to start a war again?" Charles asked earnestly.

If a war really breaks out between the two sides, what is the difference between the gold Galleons kept in Gringotts and those provided to the enemy?

Draco:......

"Should it be, shouldn't it?" Draco hesitated. "After the war, the defeated goblins signed a magic contract with the 'Sacred Twelve Nobles'. I don't remember the specific content, but I think there should be some restrictions on goblins, right?"

Ciel glanced at Draco silently.

"Ciel, what are you looking at?" Draco was furious.

"No, I just think that wizards are really arrogant." Charles raised his hand to cover his eyes. He wondered if these wizards had locked themselves up and made themselves stupid. The goblins had so many gold galleons in their hands that even if they were not openly hostile, they could easily bring down the economy of the wizarding world with just a little bit of manipulation. Once the existing economic system collapsed, it would be a simple matter to cause chaos in the wizarding world.

When the internal strife in the wizarding world is almost resolved, how much fighting power will the wizards have left? How much blood of the "Sacred Twelve Nobles" who signed the magic contract with the goblins will still be there? Once the binding force of the magic contract decreases, who will continue to suppress the goblins?

When looking at certain things, Ciel habitually considers the worst possible development scenario, and then he discovered that the wizarding world could be said to be plagued by internal and external troubles, and was so fragile that it could not withstand a single blow.

Inside, there are the nobles and Dumbledore who are at odds with each other, the Ministry of Magic which is sandwiched in the middle and has no sense of existence, and the Death Eaters who are hiding in the dark and watching the Dark Lord covetously because of his disappearance, and outside, there are werewolves, vampires, goblins and other creatures with extremely high combat power, and perhaps ordinary people can be added to them.

This is not an exaggeration. It is true that wizards can use magic, and some can even drive beasts that ordinary people only think exist in myths and legends. However, weapons outside are developing very rapidly, and the total population of the wizarding world is not even a fraction of the number of deaths in World War II. Once a conflict occurs between the two sides, the result can be imagined.

Ciel had no doubt that if the wizarding world was completely exposed to ordinary people, there would definitely be many people who would ignore the law and morality and spend a lot of money to get a special "pet", raise them like house-elves, and regard them as a symbol of their own wealth and power.

Even worse, they would use a bright and righteous name to send wizards to the operating table for research, perhaps to study the source of magic, perhaps to crack the code of longevity, or just to torture them and listen to their crying and wailing.

Charles never hesitated to assume the worst about human beings. He had witnessed the purgatory-like scenes with his own eyes. It was really difficult to tell what was hidden under those elegant, kind and gentle skins.

Ciel raised his hand and patted Draco on the shoulder: "Tell me, who are you trying to protect by hiding the wizarding world?"

Of course it's Muggles... Draco suddenly thought of what he had seen and heard in the Muggle world, and the words on his lips couldn't come out.
