Stepmother Reborn: Dad, my mom hasn't hit me for three days
Chapter 73: Catching Ghosts
The night in the countryside was eerily quiet, with only the sound of the cold wind blowing through the branches and the occasional barking of dogs. The night was also terribly dark, so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of you, which was creepy.
Youcai tightened his clothes, slipped out of the house, and followed the route he had walked many times during the day to meet Guoxiang at the door of Guoxiang's house.
Guoxiang slipped out and saw a dark figure. He asked quietly, "Are you talented?"
Youcai said unhappily, "It's me. Where is the ghost?"
Guoxiang’s nose was frozen, and he pulled Youcai into the alley next to him. “Speak softly, don’t let the ghost hear you.”
Youcai followed him, thinking: I want to see who is playing tricks! If I catch him, I will beat his skin to pieces!
The two of them crouched down and slid along the wall in the snow. They soon reached the end, but Guoxiang stopped moving.
Youcai wondered, "Why don't you leave?"
"Wait a minute." Guoxiang didn't hear the crying.
Youcai's feet were frozen stiff, but he was unwilling to go back now, so he could only wait with Guoxiang. He yawned into his palms, but felt that it was not warm enough, so he put his hands into his sleeves.
After an unknown amount of time, a slight sound was finally heard. In the darkness, Youcai's eyes lit up surprisingly. Guoxiang was afraid that he would let the ghost go, so he motioned for him to wait, then leaned over and whispered something in his ear.
He wanted to go around to the other end and then outflank the opponent.
Youcai agreed. Guoxiang slipped away from the wall and then went around the front door to the other side.
At this time, the ghosts were crying, sadly, tenderly and melancholy, as if they had suffered endless grievances.
Youcai didn't believe in ghosts before, but the crying was too creepy, and Guoxiang didn't send any signal, so he got goose bumps on his back. He silently recited the quotations that his teacher had taught him.
When he had memorized more than ten items, he suddenly heard Guoxiang whistling.
Youcai was just waiting for this moment and he jumped out in a flash.
The ghost who was crying just now was frightened when he heard a dark shadow jumping out. He forgot to cry, turned around and wanted to run, but ran into Youcai head-on.
The two of them blocked the ghost tightly on the left and right.
"There's a ghost! Catch it!"
But the ghost was not a pushover. He was tall and strong, so he broke free from the two children. Just as he was about to run away, he was hit on the head with a bouquet of flowers. Then he heard a female voice, "Don't run!"
Youcai and Guoxiang got up from the ground, grabbed the ghost's hands on the left and right, took a closer look, and exclaimed, "Uncle Jianxin? Why is it you?"
Zhang Xiuhua held up a flashlight and asked, "What are you doing?"
Youcai opened his mouth in surprise, "Aunt Zhang, why are you here?"
"I was just about to ask you something. Dinner wasn't tasty either, and I felt distracted." Youcai, who always loved to eat, suddenly had a poor appetite. Zhang Xiuhua thought that he must be worried. Sure enough, she caught him red-handed.
Youcai scratched his head and grinned, "Guoxiang said there was a ghost crying behind his house. He said it was a ghost, but I didn't believe it. Then we caught the ghost together. How could I know it was Uncle Jianxin?"
It kept him awake late at night and even caused him to fall!
Zhang Xiuhua turned around to settle accounts with Youcai and looked at Li Jianxin, "What are you doing? You're not sleeping in the middle of the night and you're crying behind someone's house!"
Several families nearby heard the noise, turned on their lights, and came out of their homes, "What's going on?!"
Li Jianxin did not feel ashamed and said confidently, "Of course I can't go to my own house and cry. Rourou is pregnant and the baby is not in good condition. I came to my mother's place to cry."
Zhang Xiuhua was stunned for a moment before she realized that behind the captain's house was Miao Xiaohua's house.
Miao Xiaohua just came out of the house and heard her son's voice. She started to scold him, "Third brother, what are you doing again!"
Guoxiang is a fast talker and he ran over and started talking nonstop.
Miao Xiaohua was so angry. How could she be so unlucky to have such a disaster! He had twins, a blessing that others could not even pray for, and he was still crying! Cry if you want, and even pretend to cry like a ghost in the middle of the night!
Miao Xiaohua chased her son and beat him, and Li Jianxin was no fool, so how could he not run away?
Zhang Xiuhua was shivering with cold. She held Youcai's hand and walked home. On the way, she did not forget to teach him a lesson, "Why are you out here catching ghosts in the middle of the night? I thought you were going fishing."
Youcai felt wronged, "It was Guoxiang who said there was a ghost! That's why I caught him together with him. He is just a fool. He actually believed that there are ghosts in this world."
"You're not much better. Just to prove that there's nothing wrong, you froze yourself like this in the middle of the night!"
Youcai was sniffing his nose and his breath was hot when he spoke. It felt so uncomfortable.
The next morning, after Zhang Xiuhua finished making tofu, Li Jianxin came into the yard with a bruised nose and swollen eyes to get the tofu. "Sister-in-law?"
Zhang Xiuhua couldn't help but twitch her lips when she saw his ugly face. "Now that things have come to this, just look forward. Don't think about those unnecessary things."
Li Jianxin worked silently.
Zhang Xiuhua saw that he seemed to have lost his energy and spirit, "You haven't recovered yet!"
Li Jianxin walked away with a sad face and sighed.
Zhou Pandi and Li Xiaoying each tied a plate of tofu to the back seat of the bicycle. Seeing him like this, they asked in confusion, "What's wrong with him?"
Zhang Xiuhua told Li Jianxin that he didn't want to have children, but his wife was pregnant with twins, including the incident of pretending to be a ghost last night. The two looked at each other and both showed expressions of sudden enlightenment.
"In order to raise the child, he will have to live frugally in the future. No wonder he looks so gloomy."
The two of them could understand Li Jianxin, as life in the countryside was too hard.
An Rou can't work to begin with, not to mention that she is now pregnant with twins. Even with Li Jianxin's ten work points, he can't support the three of them. He definitely feels the pressure.
Zhou Pandi thought Li Jianxin was a fool. "If you don't want to have a baby, just give it away."
Li Xiaoying opened her mouth in surprise, "Ah?! How can this be possible!"
"If you haven't thought about taking on the responsibility of being a father, you might as well give the child to someone who needs it." Zhou Pandi said meaningfully, "Hasn't his father-in-law always wanted a grandson?"
Li Xiaoying also remembered that Anrou had a brother who had only one daughter after three years of marriage. Family planning had not yet been implemented in the countryside, but it had been implemented in the city. The couple were both workers and could only have one child. If they violated the family planning regulations, they would be laid off.
After selling the tofu, when Li Jianxin came to deliver the soybeans, Zhou Pandyi told him about this idea.
Li Jianxin's eyes were filled with surprise, "Really?"
Zhou Pandi nodded, "Of course it's true. Why don't you go back and ask your wife?"
An Rou is so lazy that she definitely can't afford to raise two children. Instead of letting the children suffer with them in the countryside, it would be better to send them back to the city.
Zhang Xiuhua felt that Zhou Pandi only considered the interests and did not consider the feelings at all, and reminded Li Jianxin, "Giving the child to your brother-in-law will have nothing to do with you two in the future. Don't think that the child will be filial to you. Jianxin, think it over before making a decision."
Li Jianxin waved his hand and said, "I didn't expect them to support me in my old age."
He ran away happily, and his brisk movements seemed as if he had solved a big problem.
Li Xiaoying's expression was hard to describe. "It seems like he really doesn't like children. If his wife wasn't pregnant with twins and couldn't have an abortion, I think he would have asked his wife to have an abortion."
Zhou Pandi didn't think so, "I don't think he will give the child to anyone else!"
This turn of events stunned both Zhang Xiuhua and Li Xiaoying.
Li Xiaoying thought she was being too arbitrary. "Look how excited he was just now, how could he not send her away! Unless he has two girls, his father-in-law won't accept them."
Zhou Pandi, however, was very confident. “People who don’t want to raise children are the most suitable to be parents. This is because they already know what responsibilities they will take on before raising children. Some parents will never learn in their lifetime.”
Li Xiaoying seemed to be thinking about something.
