Blending of Planes: I am leisurely farming

Chapter 2 The Current Situation of the Farm and Pelican Town (Part )

noon

Sean carried his bag and retrieved the luggage that was in the carriage.

Now it's time to meet Mayor Lewis, Sean thought.

Lewis——Mayor of Pelican Town, an old friend of Sean's grandfather. The estate left by his grandfather after his death was temporarily given to him for safekeeping because no one took over.

Before he came back, Sean had communicated with Lewis through letters and entrusted him to use his grandfather's inheritance to repair the farm as much as possible.

And today is the day he and Lewis agreed to meet.

Looking at the dark green cedars on the distant mountains, Sean took a deep breath. The fresh and cool air rushed into his chest and abdomen, bringing a bit of coolness in the winter. He shook his body, which was a little stiff due to the long car ride, and he suddenly felt refreshed.

Walking on the trampled country dirt road, the fields on both sides of the road were separated by wooden fences. Because it was still late winter, except for some evergreen trees that retained some dark green, the entire earth was divided into pieces of white snow squares by country roads and canals.

This scene makes people imagine: when spring comes, what kind of vitality will this world bring.

Everything seemed to be the same as it was ten years ago, and the vague memories seemed to become familiar all of a sudden.

Walking out of the bus stop with his luggage, Sean's steps became long and steady, and the wheels of the two large suitcases collided with the hardened dirt road with marks left by the axles, making a "rumbling" sound.

I walked to the T-junction and looked to the right. I saw a black pickup truck parked on a country road in the distance. There was a figure sitting in the cab, and I didn't know who he was waiting for.

That should be Mayor Lewis!

Sean walked quickly forward, and the figure in the cab gradually became clear. He was wearing a layer of blue denim overalls wrapped in a dark gray cotton jacket. Through the zipper that was not completely closed, the shirt with a tie inside was meticulously done. He wore a brown beret on his head, looking very capable.

If it weren't for his gray hair and beard, and some spots on his forehead that betrayed him, one would never have guessed that he was an old man.

"Grandpa Lewis!" Sean stopped and raised his hands above his head to greet him.

Lewis raised his head after hearing this, squinted his eyes to confirm for a while, and showed a kind smile:

"Haha, little Sean, come here quickly and let me take a good look at you." As he said that, he opened the car door, got out, and greeted Sean.

Sean hurried over, held Lewis’s outstretched hand with both hands and said, “Grandpa Lewis, you are still so energetic after ten years, exactly the same as I remember. My dad often mentioned you at home, saying that you often helped my family when he was a child.”

"You have been so sweet since you were a child." Lewis stroked Sean's hand gently, "I'm old, I don't know what your father's personality is, it's good that you can still remember me, an old man."

"Okay, it's cold outside. Let's get in the car first and talk when we get to the farm. Robin is waiting there." Lewis patted Sean on the back and pointed to the back of the pickup truck. "Come on, kid, put the luggage in and let's go."

After driving along the path for less than 5 minutes, the wooden fence separating the path from the field suddenly turned 90 degrees, revealing a large open space. From a distance, a wooden house was located in a large flat land covered with weeds.

Looking at this familiar yet unfamiliar scene, Sean knew he had arrived at his farm.

This desolate large farm is where I will live from now on.

I got off the car and retrieved my luggage.

"Robin, the new farmer is here. Come out and tell him about the results of the farm renovations you've done in the past few days." Lewis shouted towards the cabin with a smile, "See if your old craftsmanship can satisfy the worldly-wise young man."

Robin, the carpenter in the town, was also a miserable person in memory. She lost her husband in the third year of her marriage, leaving behind an orphan and a widow. However, she was not defeated by life and faced it optimistically. Relying on her carpentry skills, she gradually made a living.

"You still don't believe in my craftsmanship? Ask around and see who in the ten-mile radius doesn't praise my carpentry skills."

The sound came before the person appeared. With the sound of footsteps on the wooden board, a woman with orange hair, about 40 years old, quickly opened the door.

"You must be tired after the long journey. Come in and sit down first. Take a look at the furniture that Auntie has repaired for you. Then I will introduce you to the current situation of the farm."

The three groups of people entered the house one after another and closed the door to keep the cold out.

Sean looked around and was facing a space of about 10 square meters.

There is a fireplace next to the window against the east wall, an old-fashioned TV, a fabric sofa, a wooden table against the sunny south wall, and some wooden storage cabinets.

It was clean and dusty, with the smell of burning wormwood still in the air. The damp, dark and corrupt scene I had imagined did not happen.

On the left side of the living room is a kitchen of about 6 square meters. A gas stove, a simple refrigerator and other simple items simply fill the entire space.

The view on the right is blocked by a door, which should be the bedroom.

The whole wooden house has been well repaired and is clean. Although it is small, it has everything and there are no leaks.

"Come and sit down, and take a look at the new furniture your aunt made for you. The original ones have become rotten and unusable." Robin pressed the switch by the door, and an incandescent lamp added a hint of light to the room.

"I also asked the town's electrician to rewire your cabin and increase the load. I understand how much you young people rely on electricity. It's not like your grandfather who had to persuade you many times before he reluctantly agreed to connect an electric wire."

Lewis placed his briefcase on the table, moved a chair over and sat on it, then took out a stack of documents from his briefcase and began to read them.

This is the house I will live in from now on. Sean's hands couldn't help but touch everything, knocking on the wall panels, and occasionally looking down and up to look around the whole house.

"Aunt, thank you very much. It's better than I thought." Sean expressed his appreciation for Robin's carpentry skills.

"That's good, Sean. Let Robin take you to confirm the overall situation of the farm. I'll sort out your grandfather's will and you just need to sign it." Lewis took over the conversation while flipping through the stack of documents on the table.

Following Robin out of the door, Robin pointed to the building next to the wooden house and said, "This is the warehouse. I asked the town's blacksmith Clint to refurbish all the tools inside. Now I have all the tools I need for farming."

Sean quickly thanked Robin for his thoughtfulness, saying that it saved him a lot of effort.

"Why are you being so polite? Just take good care of Auntie's work in the future." Robin pointed at the large wooden fence and said,

"The area enclosed by these wooden fences is the approximate scope of the main body of the farm. It took me a lot of effort to determine the scope of the farm according to the will and then enclose it with these wooden fences."

Sean estimated that the entire farm was about 800 meters from east to west and about 600 meters from north to south. It was about 700 acres in total. Excluding the terrain occupied by some rivers, hillsides and buildings, there were less than 300 acres of arable flat land. Although these lands were now occupied by dry weeds.

[It's so big, can grandpa take care of it all by himself? I remember when I was a child, the old man reclaimed more than ten acres of land in addition to the fruit trees planted on the hillside. Could it be a mistake? ] Sean complained silently in his heart.

"Is it so big? I can't take care of it by myself." Sean cautiously tested.

"Your old man's farm was originally this big, but your grandfather couldn't take care of it and left a lot of land unused." Robin laughed and explained, "The situation here is quite special. You know about the war a hundred years ago."

Sean searched his memory for the war that happened a hundred years ago. The cause of the war was very vague in his memory. It could be roughly summarized as conflicts that suddenly broke out in many places around the world, involving almost all countries, and nuclear bombs seemed to have been used during the war.

There was no sign of the end, and it felt as if the war had never happened.

Sean nodded.

"That's good to know. According to the books in the town museum, Stardew Valley was a battlefield at that time. Your family made great contributions at that time, so this land was awarded to you, and it has continued to this day. It seems that your grandfather kept this matter to himself because your mother left here."

Sean was stunned when he heard this, his mind overwhelmed by the huge amount of information.

That’s okay. It turns out my ancestors were so awesome. I should have told you so earlier.

Sean squatted down and touched the frozen ground, as if he could feel the efforts and expectations of his ancestors, and the burden on his shoulders became heavier.
