Blending of Planes: I am leisurely farming
Chapter 25 Avalanches and Debris Flows
Without stopping for a moment, Sean hurriedly picked up a shovel and an axe from the warehouse and ran towards the town.
"Huh~"
As he approached the town, breathing heavily, he could see from afar some figures gathering in the town square.
It was freezing cold, and the group of people gathered together with excited expressions. The hot air from their mouths condensed into frost, which quickly floated in the cold night, and was particularly eye-catching under the gloomy street lights.
They were holding various digging tools in their hands, and it was obvious that they were also townspeople who had just heard the news and rushed over.
"Where's Pierre? Go and inform the hunter McCaroo that they haven't come back yet?" Mayor Lewis commanded at the top of his voice in the center of the crowd.
"What about Shane? How is his plan to ask Joja's head, Morris, to borrow the excavator?" Lewis asked the crowd, but there was no response for a long time.
"Where's the radio? Harvey, any news?" Lewis shouted again to Harvey who was squatting beside him operating the radio.
"No~" Harvey adjusted the channel with a frustrated look and kept trying to call.
"There's no time to waste. Ahem~ move the radio to the passenger seat of the pickup truck first! Hurry!" After all, he was old, so Lewis coughed a few times and took a break before continuing to urge.
"Demetrius, Robin, Harvey, Jenny, get in the car first! We will go there first!" Lewis, whose voice was already hoarse, was still shouting loudly, giving orders and making arrangements.
"Old De, Robin! I'm leaving it to you to check the stability of the avalanche area. Check as soon as possible whether there is a possibility of a second landslide. Designate a safe working area to ensure that the townspeople who will be rescued later will not be threatened by a second landslide."
Demetrius - Robin's remarried husband, is a geologist sent here to conduct scientific research.
Sean only learned from gossip at Star Bar a few days ago that Robin had remarried and had a daughter. He was very moved. Sean was sincerely happy that Aunt Robin had found a home again.
"Don't worry, leave it to me and Demi!" Robin got on the pickup truck first and assured Lewis.
"Harvey, is the radio put up? Remember to keep it receiving at all times. Jenny, is Dr. Harvey's medicine box ready? Jenny, you stay in the pickup truck for a while, remember not to walk around." Lewis panted, holding the door of the basket and instructed Jenny, who was the last one to get into the cab.
Then he stepped into the driver's seat, closed the door, and leaned his head out to give final instructions to the people outside the car: "Gus, I'm going to investigate the situation on the scene first. I'll leave this place to you." His gray hair fluttered in the cold wind.
"Leave it to me, don't worry!" A sturdy middle-aged man with a thick hat, brown hair showing through it, and a thick brown beard on his face answered, patting his chest.
What is striking is the bright smile he always has, which makes people feel very friendly and warm.
Sean recognized him as Gus, the owner of Star Bar and Restaurant, a very enthusiastic, talkative, caring and skilled chef.
"Pam, you have the best driving skills in this town right now, so I'll hand over the van to you. When most of the people have arrived, transport them here." Lewis pointed to the truck not far away and continued to instruct Pam.
"Haha, by the way, I didn't drink today. Take this, use it to keep in touch and determine the location when you get near the location." Lewis took out a walkie-talkie and handed it to Pam.
"Drinking? That thing can affect my driving. Think about when I was driving a bus..." Pam took the walkie-talkie and like most alcoholics, when she heard words that belittled her, she would brag about her own experiences.
"Okay!" Lewis interrupted her. "Gus, I'll trouble you to take charge of the situation. When Pierre comes back, have him drive McCaroo and the others here."
"Gus, next you explain what happened to the people who just arrived. Folks, time is urgent, I'm leaving first!" Lewis leaned out of the car and shouted to the townspeople who had gathered here one after another, then started the car and gradually disappeared into the cold and deep night.
As more and more townspeople arrived, Sean mixed in the crowd and looked around. With the help of lights and sounds, he could distinguish the townspeople who were wrapped tightly in fur hats and large cloth jackets in the night.
Except for Pam, Robin and Jenny who had already set out, all the people who came were adult men in the town. There were about thirty people gathered now, and young people accounted for a small proportion. Most of them were middle-aged people in their forties or fifties.
In the distance, Shane and another person next to him rushed back. Both of them worked in Joja. This time, they were sent by Lewis to borrow construction machinery from Morris, the person in charge of Joja in Stardew Valley.
"Shane, where's the excavator? Why didn't you borrow it?" Gus saw it and hurried over. Seeing that Shane had nothing in his hands, he asked quickly.
"That old Maurice!" Shane said gritting his teeth, "He made the excuse that the machinery was driven out to work a few days ago, and I tried to break into the warehouse but was kicked out..." He complained to Gus.
"I've always said that these capitalists are nothing, they are beasts who eat people without leaving any bones. Look at how the environment in the back mountain has been ruined since they came here. And you are still working for them. You are all accomplices!"
The townspeople who were probably always annoyed by Joja pointed at Shane and the other two angrily and said.
He expanded the scope of his attack from Joja to Shane and other workers, hoping to find a sense of existence as an elder from them.
"If I don't go to work, you have to support me! With those few acres of land in your family, your son can't even find a wife." Xie En was not someone to be bullied. With his foul mouth, he accurately found the person who was shouting and killed him with precision.
"You! You~Martin, what are you doing standing there? Go to your uncle's place. Your father has been unwell and asked me to take care of you. Come here quickly!" The man was choked by Shane and turned to yell at the thin young man behind Shane. His tone revealed the inviolable majesty of a family elder.
The young man named Martin had no choice but to walk slowly behind the middle-aged man, lowered his head and stopped talking.
"What do you mean you're out working? You're probably worried that if you lend it to us, we might break it and we won't be able to pay for it." The man was afraid that others couldn't hear him, so he continued to shout loudly, "Haha, we're a bunch of poor people, and others don't even look at us!"
[This guy must have a mental problem. It's fine if he just blames Joja, but now he's even pulling all the townspeople in to launch an AoE attack, expanding the attack point and creating division and opposition.]
Sean saw that many townspeople who worked for Joja Corporation had angry expressions on their faces, and some were ready to take action.
"I said we should just rush in and grab the excavator first." someone expressed his opinion.
"What's the point of robbing it? Do you, an illiterate guy, know how to drive?" another person retorted excitedly.
"That kid Xie En knows how to open it! Why don't we just let him open it?" suggested the man who started the dispute and claimed to be the uncle.
"Sure. Here's a piece of paper. You sign it and make a pledge. If anything happens to the excavator, you will be responsible for all the compensation." Xie En immediately took out a piece of paper and walked over, saying aggressively.
"You! You! Martin, can't you drive? Come on, let's grab Joja, and then you will be the one driving it!" The man was forced back a few steps by Shane. Knowing that Shane was not easy to bully, he continued to bully Martin who didn't resist.
"What are you arguing about? You're already fighting among yourself before the people have been rescued! If you want to argue, save your energy for the rescue later. If anyone doesn't contribute later, don't even think about coming to my tavern to drink!" Gus yelled, putting an end to the quarrel.
"Why are we still gathered here? Why don't you hurry up and prepare? Are you waiting for Morris to laugh at us? Human lives are at stake. The most urgent thing now is to rescue them!" Gus' expression was serious, and he no longer had that permanent smile on his face.
When everyone saw the usually nice guy getting angry, they shut up and said nothing.
In order to prevent the situation from escalating further, Gus continued, "Almost all the people have arrived, everyone start getting in the cars." He pointed to a van and said, "This is an emergency, everyone squeeze in!"
"I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the newcomers about the situation. An avalanche occurred on Baidu Peak, causing a landslide. Deputy Mayor Geller was trapped here on his way back from the city. His life or death is unknown." Gaston paused and continued.
"Harvey received Geller's distress call through the radio station. The mayor has already rushed to the scene. The deputy mayor also went to the city for a meeting to attract investment and discuss plans for us. We must do our best to rescue the deputy mayor!"
"Let's unite as one and show outsiders how much power a united Pelican Town can unleash!" Seeing that everyone was a little confused after a wave of quarrels, Gus quickly shouted slogans and talked about Geller's contributions to rally people's hearts.
Geller - the deputy mayor of Pelican Town. Sean, who had only heard of his name but had never met him, had arrived in Stardew Valley a few days ago.
I heard that he took the initiative to transfer to Pelican Town to be the deputy mayor in order to give his sick daughter a quiet place to recuperate. He has done a lot for Stardew Valley in the past few years. He is a good father and a good mayor.
"I hope he is safe." Sean prayed in his heart and followed the footsteps of the people in front of him and walked towards the truck compartment.
Suddenly, a sneaky but familiar figure caught Sean's attention. He walked quickly forward and grabbed the clothes on the back of her neck.
"Abby, why don't you come and say hello to the master?" Sean said with a teasing look on his face.
"Master, shush~" Abigail froze, like a mouse seeing a cat, and unknowingly became a head shorter. She turned around, forced out an awkward but polite smile, made a shushing gesture and said to Sean.
"Don't let my mom find out. I sneaked out. Uncle Geller is in danger. Sister Jill must be worried. I have to help. I can take good care of myself. I'm very strong!" He said while showing his muscles.
"Okay, come and follow me in the car. Pay attention to my instructions and don't act willfully, otherwise I will send you back immediately." Sean is not a feudal old-fashioned person. He only looks at ability and does not care about gender.
Thinking about the skills Abigail showed when sparring with him, which were much better than those of an ordinary adult male, Sean still made three rules with her just in case.
"That's great, Master!" Abigail jumped up happily, then happily pushed Sean into the carriage, jumped in and sat obediently next to Sean.
"Pam, this car is in your hands now. Be careful! I'll give you a 10% discount on beer this time!" Gus was the only one left outside the car. He worriedly told Pam, "Pierre hasn't arrived yet. I'll wait for him here."
Then the vehicle started, took off with a slingshot, and drove towards the suburbs. Gus's figure behind him became smaller and smaller until it was submerged in the night.
