Blending of Planes: I am leisurely farming
Chapter 28 Fisherman Willy
When we returned to the farm, the moon was already high in the sky. The silver moonlight spread over the entire land, casting a soft veil over the farm in the dark.
Sean stood in front of the farm, looking at the land shrouded in moonlight. His tired body trembled slightly in the night wind, but his heart was full of tranquility and peace. In the celebration after the rescue operation, Sean vented all his anxiety and uneasiness about the future.
After taking off his rescue suit covered in dirt and dust and throwing it into a storage basket nearby, Sean washed himself with hot water. White foam slowly accumulated on his hands and arms, and then dissipated with the flow of water, washing away the dirt on his body, as well as the mental confusion and fatigue.
On the bamboo poles next to them were clothes that had been washed after returning from the other dimension the day before yesterday. Sean smiled helplessly and laughed at himself in his heart: "It seems that being a hero also requires doing these housework."
Life is like this, mediocrity is the norm. Whether it is a thrilling rescue operation or trivial household chores, they are all part of life and need to be faced and completed seriously.
As life returned to normal, Sean devoted all his energy to the construction of the farm.
For several days, he worked hard on the farm, clearing wasteland, weeding, leveling the land, observing the condition of the vines, recording the use of fertilizers... Sean enjoyed these seemingly boring tasks.
After several days of hard work, Sean finally successfully reclaimed ten acres of land and was just waiting for the moment when the temperature rose to sow seeds, raise seedlings, and let the flowers bloom and bear fruit.
It was another morning. When the first ray of sunlight fell on the farm, Sean hurried towards the south of Pelican Town.
It turned out that the previously announced commission to purchase bones had finally made progress. Willy, a fisherman living on the southernmost beach of Pelican Town, took over the commission and agreed to meet with Sean today to discuss the specific matters.
Willy - the best fisherman in Pelican Town. Sean doesn't know much about him except for a brief encounter with him during the rescue.
Since South Beach is far from Pelican Town and it usually takes an hour and a half to walk there, Sean went out early.
The sunlight shines through the gaps between the leaves onto the ground, creating mottled light and shadows. The breeze blows gently, bringing bursts of fresh scent of grass and trees.
Walking on the road, Sean recalled the scene when the postman Haji hurried to the farm and excitedly told him the news from the town.
As he spoke, he waved the letter in his hand, revealing a bit of regret and unwillingness in his movements: "Brother Sean, I also want to participate in the search and rescue work, but everyone says that I am too young and won't let me go." When he said this, the corners of his mouth drooped slightly and a trace of loss flashed in his eyes.
Sean patted him on the shoulder and comforted him. From him, Sean learned that Geller was still recuperating in Harvey's clinic. In order not to worry his frail daughter Ginger, everyone kept the news secret.
Sean walked slowly on the streets of Pelican Town, and the townspeople along the way greeted him.
"Brother Sean, you look so cool when you rescue people. I want to be as brave as you when I grow up!" Several children said to Sean. There is no doubt that Sean has become the "other people's child" in the eyes of the neighbors, and his heroic deeds of rescue have also spread among the children.
"Come to our house when you have time. We also have a small vegetable garden and we can exchange experiences in growing vegetables." A middle-aged woman said, holding Sean's hand.
"Come on, Sean, come in and sit for a while. I just made a pot of good tea, let's have a taste together." The owner of a small shop along the street greeted Sean warmly.
The journey that was supposed to take more than an hour took more than three hours. Along the way, townspeople kept chatting with him and inviting him to be their guests. This atmosphere full of human touch made Sean, who had been alone these days, feel a little overwhelmed.
But Sean knew in his heart that this was a sign that he was beginning to integrate into the residents of Pelican Town and he was no longer an "outsider".
It's just that since he hasn't interacted much with most of the townspeople and isn't familiar with them yet, everyone just tried to get closer to him by saying hello.
"Pass five gates and kill six generals" After declining the warm hospitality of the townspeople, Sean finally arrived at Willy's cottage by the sea.
The midday sun shines on the beach, reflecting a dazzling light, and the sea breeze blows gently, carrying the salty smell of sea water and a hint of fish.
A wooden house is located on the beach. The wooden pier and pergola extending from the house are above sea level. Willy is sitting at the end of the pier, fishing from a distance.
"It's hooked!" Willy quickly turned his fishing rod and a black sea bream half an arm's length leaped into the water and was pulled up by him. A smile broke out on his face, and his wrinkles became more obvious in the sunlight.
"A distinguished guest is here!" Willy threw the fish into the bucket next to him, stood up and walked towards Sean.
Sean walked up quickly and shook hands with Willy. "Uncle Willy, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for so long," he said apologetically.
"It's all small stuff, how about a few shots?" Willy waved his hand, motioning Sean to sit down and cast the club. "Come on, try to swing it hard. We'll talk about the bones later."
Willy walked into the cabin, took out another fishing rod from the cabinet, walked to Sean, looked at the vast sea horizon, and cast with force.
The bait drew a beautiful arc in the air, sank into the sea, and then sat back on the bench where it had been sitting before.
Sean imitated Willy's movements clumsily, and with a strong swing, the fishing line was pulled by the bait and became a bright white silver line in the sun, and then fell into the sea not far from Willy's bait. Willy looked at Sean's movements and nodded with satisfaction.
The two sat on the wooden deck, quietly waiting for the fish to bite. The sea breeze blew gently, bringing bursts of coolness. The sun shone on the sea, sparkling, as if countless small fish were jumping in the sea water.
The two men had a great time while fishing and talking. Young Sean experienced the peaceful and comfortable retirement life of the elderly in advance.
Seeing that it was getting late, Sean brought the topic back to the acquisition of bones.
The two walked out of the hut, crossed a beach, and came to a place covered with grass. Willy pointed to the fish bones everywhere in the grass and said, "Here are the bones I mentioned in the letter. Some of the processed small pieces are piled here. These fish bones were salvaged from the sea by me and the nearby fishermen. You can take them for free."
Sean squatted down and carefully examined the fish bones. A strong fishy smell came to his nose, making Sean frown.
Some of these fish bones have been severely weathered and will crumble into powder with the slightest touch; others are still relatively intact and one can vaguely recognize what they looked like when they were alive.
"Can we really just take it?" Sean asked uncertainly.
"Of course." Willy nodded. "Take whatever you want. No money required. Just promise me that you will participate in the ice fishing competition the day after tomorrow."
"Participate in the competition? But I don't know how to fish." Sean said with some embarrassment, "You know that was my first time trying to cast a rod."
Willy looked at Sean, a cunning gleam in his dark and deep eyes.
"You don't know this. The competition is a two-person competition, and it's for beginners. I'll be your mentor then! You are strong, and I'll teach you how to use your strength. The two of us will definitely be able to bring the championship home!" Willy patted Sean on the shoulder, his tone full of confidence.
Willy then explained the rules of the competition to Sean in detail to dispel Sean's doubts.
The competition system requires a novice and an experienced partner to participate. The experienced person cannot touch the fishing rod and can only hold the landing net to guide the novice throughout the fishing process.
It's easy to find people who don't know how to fish, and there are plenty of good fishermen in the world. But if a beginner is being taught by others in front of many acquaintances, and something goes wrong, such as falling into the water or catching something strange, then it will be the talk of the town for the whole year.
The special rules of the competition meant that only a few people signed up for the competition, which made Willy, the rule maker, feel embarrassed. So he thought of asking Sean to sign up for the competition as well, so as to at least make up the number.
Seeing Willy's eyes full of enthusiasm and expectation, and feeling embarrassed to refuse the gift of fish bones, Sean could only take a deep breath, nodded and said, "Okay, Uncle Willy, I'll join in!"
"I never thought I would become a fisherman." Sean thought to himself, his mind drifting to the collection of jokes about fishermen in his previous life. "Fishermen never come back empty-handed!" Sean shouted in his heart the slogan that fishermen have been committed to all their lives.
When Willy heard Sean's answer, he smiled with satisfaction, took out a form from his pocket and said, "Great! Just fill in your name. Remember it's the afternoon after tomorrow, don't forget!"
At dusk, Sean said goodbye to Willy, carrying half a bag of fish bones and started his journey back.
