Kunning Palace was the palace where empresses of all dynasties lived. Empress Ulanara Rouze did not live in Kunning Palace as she wanted, but was arranged to live in Jingren Palace by Emperor Yongzheng.

This time, Yixiu did not live in Jingren Palace, but in Chengqian Palace.

Chengqian Palace means Shuntian Chengqian, and it is a palace only for concubines. Shunzhi's favorite concubine Dong Efei lived in Chengqian Palace.

When Zhen Huan's selection was over, Yixiu planned to arrange for her to live in Chengqian Palace, but Concubine Hua insisted on moving her to Suiyuxuan instead.

Chengqian Palace has two courtyards. The main hall, Chengqian Palace, is five bays wide and has a yellow glazed tile hip-and-gable roof. The inner and outer eaves are decorated with dragon and phoenix and imperial seal paintings, and there are double-intersecting four-diamond flower-leaf doors and windows. The interior is paved with square bricks and the ceiling is painted with double phoenixes. In front of the hall is a spacious platform, with three side halls on the east and west. The main room has a door and a yellow glazed tile hip-and-gable roof.

There are five main halls in the backyard, with side rooms built on both sides, three side halls on the east and west sides, all of which have open doors and yellow glazed tile hard mountain roofs. There is a viewing pavilion in the southwest corner.

Concubine Qi lived in Changchun Palace, and Concubine Hua lived in the extremely luxurious Yiku Palace. "Yi" means assistant, and "Kun" means queen. The two words "Yikun" mean assisting the queen in managing the six palaces in the east and west.

The Yiku Palace has two courtyards. The main hall in the front courtyard is five bays wide, with a phoenix carved on the door. It has a single-eaved hip roof with yellow glazed tiles and five ridge beasts on the eaves. There are eaves corridors in front and back, and Su-style colored paintings on the crossbeams. There are auxiliary halls, Yanhong Hall and Yuanhe Hall, in the east and west.

The layout of the backyard is the same as that of other palaces. The rear hall has a yellow glazed tile hip roof, is five bays wide, has doors at the front and back, and has eaves corridors at the front and back.

There are east and west side halls in front of the hall. The east side hall is Pingkang Room, the west side hall is Yishouzhai, and there is a well pavilion in the southeast.

The Ministry of Rites formulated the positions and titles of concubines according to their family background and official positions in the previous dynasty.

The four concubines were Fei, Qi, Feng and Geng.

The Fei family, the Qi family, the Feng family, and the Geng family.

They lived in Qixiang Palace, Yanqing Hall, Xianfu Palace and Jingyang Palace respectively.

Geng had a son, Hong Zhou. Because his family background was not prominent, he was given the title of concubine, Yupin.

The three noble ladies and concubines, Noble Lady Fang, Noble Lady Xin and Noble Lady Cao, lived in Suiyuxuan, Chuxiu Palace and Yiku Palace respectively.

Concubine Xin was pregnant with a daughter, and Concubine Fang Su Qingmu became pregnant when Yongzheng ascended the throne, so the Ministry of Rites gave her the status and title of noble lady. Concubine Cao also became pregnant when Yongzheng ascended the throne. Her family background was not prominent, but she worked under Concubine Hua's brother and got the status of noble lady.

As for the other concubines in the Qiandi, some died while in the Qiandi, some were not favored, and some of them had no prominent family background and only held the position of a regular concubine.

After a long time, Yongzheng couldn't remember who that person was.

Yongzheng felt guilty towards Qi Yuebin, so he made Qi Yuebin a concubine and gave her the title "Duan" (dignified and upright), and she was still allowed to live in the palace "Yanqing Palace" proposed by the Ministry of Rites.

Simply promoting Qi Yuebin and bestowing him with a title is bound to raise doubts.

Yongzheng thought again of Feng Ruozhao being tortured by Nian Shilan in the mansion and being exposed to Huanyi incense every day. Her body was damaged over the years and she would never be able to get pregnant again. Although he did not give her the title of concubine like Concubine Duan, he compensated her with a title, "Jing", which means dignified, polite and solemn, and she moved into the Xianfu Palace planned by the Ministry of Rites.

When Yongzheng ascended the throne, he wished he could spend the whole day dealing with government affairs and spend less than half a month in the harem.

The Queen, the Queen Mother, and the concubines in the harem are worried!

They served soup and snacks.

Yixiu knew that Yongzheng ascended the throne to clean up the mess left by Kangxi.

Although Yongzheng's reign was short, he was truly a good and diligent emperor, incomparable to Kangxi and Qianlong during the Kangxi and Qianlong eras of prosperity.

If Yongzheng had not been diligent and frugal, the Qing Dynasty would have been destroyed within a few years when Hongli ascended the throne.

Kangxi and Qianlong were similar in many aspects. They had more concubines than each other in their harems and were both fond of exploits. They also loved to travel to the south of the Yangtze River for luxury. Kangxi made six trips to the south of the Yangtze River and spent huge amounts of money on many occasions. Qianlong also made six trips to the south of the Yangtze River. It seems that Qianlong was learning from his grandfather Kangxi.

The difference is that Kangxi went to the south of the Yangtze River several times, and each time he did practical work, while Qianlong went to the south of the Yangtze River several times just for sightseeing.

After Kangxi's death, the national treasury was empty. Yongzheng reigned for thirteen years. He was conscientious and diligent. He did everything himself and did not dare to be careless or slack in the slightest.

On the basis of the Qing Dynasty established by Kangxi, Yongzheng further consolidated and developed the imperial power and economy, which also laid a solid foundation for the subsequent Qianlong prosperity.

After Qianlong ascended the throne, he spent huge amounts of money, visited the south of the Yangtze River six times, and appointed corrupt officials, which allowed the corruption of the Qing Dynasty to penetrate deeply into the country and become a terminal disease.

In his later years, he also carried out large-scale construction projects, such as the construction of the Old Summer Palace, which gradually emptied the national treasury and left a huge deficit for future generations. The family fortune that Yongzheng had worked so hard to accumulate was almost exhausted during the Qianlong period.

In this life, Hongli was a cannon fodder and didn't even have a chance to be born.

The Emperor didn't turn over the cards, and the Jingshifang became anxious.

While the people in the Jingshifang were asking the emperor to turn over the cards, the empress dowager ordered someone to send porridge, side dishes and pickles to the Yangxin Palace.

Afterwards, the empress dowager also went to the Yangxin Palace. After her persuasion, the selection of concubines was decided on the grounds that there were not as many women and offspring in the harem as during the reign of the late emperor.

Jianqiu pushed the door open from outside the palace and entered, bowing: "Your Majesty, Huichun has something to report."

"Let Huichun come in."

As soon as Yixiu finished speaking, Huichun was brought into the palace by Jianqiu.

Huichun bowed and said, "Your Majesty, Xiao Xiazi sent a message earlier that the Emperor has entrusted the selection of concubines to Concubine Hua."

Yixiu was slightly startled, then chuckled and said, "Hua Fei is very considerate, it's most appropriate to let her handle this matter."

Jian Qiu: "Your Majesty, such a big matter as the selection of concubines should have been handled by the Queen and you, Your Majesty, but the Emperor bypassed you and directly handed the matter over to Concubine Hua. This is unreasonable."

Jian Qiu: "The Emperor really trusts Concubine Hua, but even if he values Concubine Hua, he shouldn't go beyond the Empress. The Empress is now a noble concubine, but she doesn't even have a share of the palace power."

Half of the palace power is in the hands of Concubine Hua, and the other half is in the hands of the Queen. Jianqiu is worried about her master, but her master has a calm face and does not seem anxious at all.

Yixiu looked at Jianqiu and said word by word: "I am pregnant now, so I should not work hard. The five princes under my knees are already eye-catching enough, and there are two unborn children in my belly. It may not be a good thing to share the palace power."

Yixiu retracted her gaze and said calmly: "Now that Nian Gengyao is in the service of the former dynasty, the emperor will naturally show his trust in Hua Fei. The more favored Hua Fei is in the harem, the more at ease Nian Gengyao will be in the former dynasty, and our emperor will also be at ease using him."

It would be strange if Yongzheng could feel at ease. Yongzheng, who was extremely suspicious, would definitely not feel at ease, otherwise he would not be on guard against Nian Shilan. As for the selection of concubines, Yixiu did not want to be responsible for choosing a concubine for her husband. Nian Shilan really loved Yongzheng, and she must have felt very depressed to choose a concubine for her husband personally. Perhaps only Nian Shilan could understand.
