Chapter 80: Annihilation of the Enemy

Niu Gao immediately issued three orders. One was to order the two cavalry battalions guarding the flanks to attack and pursue the retreating Jin army on the flanks. Another order was for Niu Gao's central army to launch an active attack and defeat Jin Wushu's central army in the front. The third order was to order the three battalions of soldiers to collect the Jin army's horses, weapons and spoils along the way.

When the surrounding subordinates saw the flag signal commanding pursuit and active attack, most of Niu Gao's cavalry soldiers rushed to chase and kill the fleeing Jin army on the flank. Facing the Jin army that only wanted to escape and had completely lost its resistance, it was almost like a crazy one-sided massacre.

The Jin Wushu Central Army Battalion in front of them could no longer withstand the repeated attacks of guns and artillery, and they fled on a large scale. The infantrymen of Niu Gao's troops who were blocking the front also immediately launched a pursuit. The infantry would definitely not be able to catch up with the cavalry, so they mainly followed along the road, aiming and shooting.

During the pursuit, hundreds of Jin soldiers were used as living targets for shooting, and the ground outside Beijing's Daming Prefecture was littered with the bodies of Jin soldiers.

The cavalry of Jin Wushu who wanted to escape back to the Beijing city of Damingfu was reduced to about a thousand people. However, they were hit head-on by Xu Xian's large army who had circled the city from the rear. They suffered heavy casualties and the entire army was wiped out. Wanyan Zongbing (Jin Wushu), the third prince of the Jin Dynasty, was also hit by a stray bullet, fell to the ground injured and was captured by Niu Gao.

Wanyan Zongfu in the city was listening to the sounds of gunfire and shouting in the distance, which sounded like salute music, and was enjoying himself by drinking a glass of wine from time to time. He thought that the 5000 cavalry of the Jin people would crush the enemy's thousands of rebels, and it should be a one-sided massacre without a doubt. Unexpectedly, the messenger brought such bad news, saying that more enemy troops had bypassed the troops of the Third Prince Jin Wushu who went out of the city to meet the enemy, and had surrounded the Beijing city of Damingfu from a distance.

Wanyan Zongfu had never expected that the enemy had so many troops. He immediately gathered all his soldiers and horses to go out of the city to kill the enemy, hoping to defeat the enemy in one fell swoop while they were still unstable.

Wanyan Zongfu immediately led a cavalry of nearly 6,000 people, opened the city gate, and rushed out of the city with great momentum.

However, they were attacked by high-density guns and artillery of Xu Xian's army of 9000. The cavalry could not run at all and was completely in a passive situation. Archery was not within the effective attack range. Xu Xian's troops suffered no damage at all. The Jin army attacked several times but to no avail. They had no choice but to retreat back to the Beijing city of Damingfu. They had lost more than half of their troops, and there were less than troops left. So they closed the city gates, and only shot arrows with bows and crossbows from the towers and walls to prevent Xu Xian's troops from approaching. They also burned wolf dung and released wolf smoke, sending out a signal for help.

Niu Gao's troops gathered about 6,000 intact war horses that had fled in all directions, and nearly 2,000 injured or dead horses, as well as countless weapons.

After the two armies joined forces, Xu Xian decided to attack the city immediately.

Niu Gao organized twenty battalions of troops and used hundreds of grenades to blow up the city gates and part of the city walls. They then stormed into the city and started street fighting inside the city. When they spotted Jin soldiers from a distance, they opened fire and fired cannons at them. It was undoubtedly a one-sided massacre, with only a very small number of infantrymen being shot dead or wounded by the Jin army.

Niu Gao concentrated his forces and successfully annihilated the remaining troops of Wanyan Zongfu in the city. The Beijing city of Damingfu was effectively occupied by Xu Xian's troops.
