Chapter 690: The Reappearance of the Blackstone Clan
Steinbrad, located in the northern border of the Kingdom of Alterac, is a town located in the mountains. It is the only way for Arthas and his men to enter the Hillsbrad region from Andorhal in the West Wilder.
The reason why Arthas and Uther chose to rescue this town, in addition to their sense of justice as paladins, was that the Menethil royal family had been collecting taxes on behalf of the new royal family, House Prestor, for ten years.
This is the reason why Stein has no permanent troops. The country does not care, and foreign countries are collecting taxes, so no one is willing to pay for military expenses.
This is also the reason why Arthas must go to the rescue when a crisis occurs.
To put it simply, it is about taking money from people to help them avoid disasters, and to put it more broadly, it is about not letting the people of Lordaeron lose their support.
So Arthas and Uther split their troops into two groups, one went straight to the orcs' lair, and the other went to guard Steinblad.
Arthas's team met a person seeking help in a small village on the way. The woman was named Alicia. She told Arthas that the werewolves had kidnapped little Timmy and taken him to their lair in the forest.
The villagers hope that Prince Arthas can rescue little Timmy. Arthas remembers the oath he made in front of the Invincible Tomb: If anyone needs protection, he will do it no matter what the cost, even if it means sacrificing his own life for the well-being of others!
So he chose to rescue little Timmy and march again, and encountered an ambush by a group of thieves!
Arthas' team consisted of some paladins of the Silver Hand, and the rest were the Royal Guard of Lordaeron and elite veterans of World War II. This group of thieves was easily defeated by them.
Interrogation of the prisoners revealed that they were from an organization called the Syndicate.
The Syndicate is a complex criminal organization of bandits composed of humans from the former Kingdom of Alterac, occupying parts of the Alterac Mountains and Hillsbrad Foothills.
Its members are mainly the Alterac nobles who chose to cooperate with the orcs after the Second Alliance-Horde War. After Prestor, played by Nefarian, ascended to the throne, humans transformed from golden dragons gradually occupied the main positions in the palace. This group of nobles who betrayed the Alliance were exiled, and later formed the Syndicate of Thieves led by Duke Falculest and Aiden's son.
It was because of the obstruction of the gnolls and the Syndicate that Arthas missed the opportunity to rescue Steinblad. When they arrived at the town, it had already been breached by the Blackrock Orcs, and most of the townspeople were captured!
After assuring the remaining townspeople that the captives would be rescued, Arthas headed to Sophia Hill to join Uther.
When Arthas entered Sophia Hill, he saw the newly established camp of Uther.
"My child, you came at the right time. I sent two excellent knights to negotiate with the orcs. They should be back soon!"
Arthas's face looked a little gloomy. The tragic scene of the town of Steinblad was still echoing in his mind. He even led his troops to fight against the orcs who were left behind. He could feel the difference of this group of orcs!
The orcs in the shelter were just as recorded, hunched over, listless, and submissive. They had been completely enslaved, with numb expressions on their faces. If they were told to go east, they would definitely not go west.
But the orcs fighting against them were green monsters that came roaring, aggressive, brave and good at fighting.
When the Alliance and the Horde fought, Arthas was only seven or eight years old, but he had also seen the orcs climbing up the walls of Lordaeron.
Arthas was deeply impressed by the tribe that had once destroyed the Storm Kingdom in the south and had to form an alliance of intelligent races across the continent to resist. The Blackrock Clan, who claimed to have crossed the sea from the south, were no less powerful!
So he had already determined in his heart that the two negotiating knights were in great danger.
Sure enough, two horses without riders returned to the camp.
Uther knew that the negotiations had failed and that two excellent knights had been killed!
"Ah! Damn it! Those orcs don't know how to surrender!"
Looking at the annoyed mentor, Arthas suggested: "Mentor, let's rush in and kill them all!"
Uther frowned: "Remember, Arthas, we are paladins. Revenge is not our creed. If we allow fanaticism to turn into bloodthirstiness, then what is the difference between us and those orcs?"
"You are right, mentor." Arthas nodded and kept these words in mind.
"I'm glad you understand." Uther saw that Arthas had listened and nodded with satisfaction. "Now, if you think it's okay, I want you to command the camp and launch an attack on the orcs!"
"No problem, mentor!"
On the other hand, Jaina first used the teleport to return to Dalaran, and then rode quickly along the east shore of Lake Lordamere to Strainblad.
But she was a step too late, and all she saw was that Steinblad had just been through a war, with ruins and corpses everywhere.
This was the first time she saw the brutality of the orcs!
She had been to the Lordamere internment camp near Dalaran and had only felt that the enslaved orcs were very pitiful. However, what she saw and heard today overturned her previous perception of the orcs!
Looking at the civilians being disemboweled and the rebels being impaled on spears, Jaina was enraged.
After learning about the movements of Arthas and the orcs from the survivors, Jaina continued her journey and tracked them all the way south!
Then Jaina discovered the breath of fel energy, and after quietly approaching, she found that an orc swordsman was slaughtering the residents of the town of Steinblad, sacrificing their lives to the demons!
Jaina studied with Gandalf for more than ten years and learned a lot of secrets among the orcs from her mentor. She recognized the symbol of the Blackrock Clan from the flag!
However, Jaina didn't know that the origins of these orcs were very complicated.
They were originally the Blackrock Clan, and later followed Rend Blackhand to form the Blackfang Clan.
Before the Horde was defeated in Blackrock Spire, the Blacktooth Clan chose to betray the Horde and act on their own. Later, when the Dark Portal was closed, the Blackrock orcs loyal to Orgrim were captured and detained in internment camps.
Under the leadership of Rend Blackhand, the Blacktooth Clan chose to lurk silently in the Burning Plains and Redridge Mountains, and restored the name of the Blackrock Clan. Occasionally, they would cooperate with the Warsong Clan to attack human towns to obtain supplies such as food and iron.
At this time, the Blackrock Clan somehow got in touch with the demons again!
The only explanation is that there are still warlocks in their clan who are still alive, and they are the only ones who can connect with the devil!
