The Three-Life Stone

Chapter 26 Meeting

Southern Kingdom, Prince’s Palace.

Jiang Wan woke up first. He had no idea what happened afterwards. He was still fighting when he fell asleep, and was back in the blink of an eye.

Jiang Wan went directly to Murong Yi's bedroom to inquire about Murong Yi's injuries. When visiting Murong Yi, she did not listen to the servants' report on the other injured people. She felt a little strange and asked casually, "Is the lady who was with us okay?"

The servants, not knowing the truth, looked at each other in bewilderment for a moment and said truthfully, "To answer the Crown Princess, we only received news that the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess returned home, not anyone else."

Jiang Wan recalled the scene at that time. Xia Jin might have the lightest injury, but it was not a minor injury. Where would she be now? Murong Yi was still in a coma, and his injury must be serious. Why did the two of them go directly back to the Prince's Mansion? Who was there to clean up the mess or who sent them back home?

Her mind was not very bright to begin with, and she couldn't figure out anything because of insufficient clues. So she decided to give up thinking about it. She stayed beside Murong Yi. The servants brought her food. After tasting two mouthfuls of porridge, she lay down beside Murong Yi and fell asleep again.

When Xia Jin woke up, she had changed into a clean and simple cotton dress. She checked her body with sleepy eyes. All her wounds were bandaged and there were no signs of strenuous exercise. She lay down relaxed and looked at the ceiling.

She suddenly felt alert in the unfamiliar environment. She reacted and sat up abruptly. Her wound was a little pulled and the pain forced her to slow down. Beside the bed was a pair of old cloth shoes. They looked clean and not repulsive. They were a little too big for Xia Jin.

Xia Jin looked around. This was a simple farmhouse, plain and clean. The people living here might not have a lot of money but they must be very hardworking.

As soon as I walked out of the house, I saw a small farmyard next to me. There were a few chickens clucking in the fence on the right, and a little yellow dog lying at the gate. On the left, an old lady was adding firewood to the stove, and I heard something gurgling in the pot. There were some chopped green onions planted on both sides of the yard, and a big peach tree stood lazily near the gate.

The old lady saw someone coming out and greeted her warmly: "Hey girl, you're awake, come sit down quickly and take care of yourself."

The old lady took a stool and tried to help Xia Jin sit down. Xia Jin quickly sat down and said, "It's okay, grandma. I can do it myself. What are you cooking? It smells so good."

"Oh, it's just some ordinary big pot meals, just eat it. But how could a girl like you get such serious injuries? If it wasn't for my son, it would be very dangerous. You went to the lake to take a bath with so many wounds on your body, and you didn't even have wet clothes to change. If the wounds got infected and inflamed and you caught a cold, it would be fatal..."

The old lady kept talking, and Ah Jin had no chance to get a word in and didn't know what to say. The sudden concern made Ah Jin's eyes red. Seeing that Ah Jin was about to cry, the old lady thought that she was thinking of something sad, so she quickly stopped the topic and said, "What's your name, girl? Where are you from? This dress belongs to my daughter-in-law, but I don't wear it often. It's very clean. I don't know if it fits me."

"Well, grandma, this dress is very comfortable to wear. I like it very much."

"Oh, I'm glad you don't mind, little girl. Just stay at grandma's house. When you're well, I'll ask my son to notify your family to pick you up. How about that?"

"Grandma and my family have taken such good care of me. I will leave on my own after I have rested. Why do you bother your son to make another trip?"

"Don't bother me, don't bother me. The little girl is so pitiful. Did she meet a bad guy? I don't know who was so bad. She really can't take care of herself. She went to the lake to take a bath even though she was injured. Come on, you must be hungry after sleeping for a whole day. Try grandma's big pot rice. There's no chili in it."

Xia Jin looked at the big bowl of rice that the old lady had prepared, and the few more pieces of meat that she had specially added. She then added chilies to the pot and continued to stir-fry and simmer it, and she felt a little touched.

She really wanted to say to Grandma, "Enough, enough," and that she wouldn't be able to finish any more, but she didn't have the heart to disturb her kindness, so she held the chopsticks and lowered her head to eat slowly. She ate slower and slower, chewed more and more, and didn't want to waste any more when she couldn't eat any more.

The old lady suddenly laughed when she saw Xia Jin eating. "Oh, little girl, if you can't eat more, don't eat anymore. Just eat the meat. It's uncomfortable to have a bloated stomach. Don't think it's a waste. I don't know how big your stomach is. If you eat more, you can feed the chickens with the leftovers."

Xia Jin then looked up, swallowed the food in her mouth in a silly manner, and ran to feed the chickens as if she had been released.

The old lady looked at the young people today and smiled and shook her head.

A man and a woman were heard chatting and laughing at the door. Xia Jin turned around to look at the woman who came in and forgot to move. She just stood there in a daze, holding the bowl and chopsticks.

The old lady took the tool from the woman's hand and said with a smile: "Hey, daughter-in-law, even if you feel sorry for your husband, you should take care of your rest, you know, there is still a little person in your belly running around with a big man every day."

"Hey~ Mom, I know. I followed Amu around the fields. He was the one doing it, and I just watched."

"Alas, you should rest more at home and go for a walk. You are an old couple, and the baby is in your belly. The man is reluctant to separate because he is working. This baby came at the wrong time."

"Ai~Mom, that's not what I meant. I have a good physique, so it's okay for me to move around with Amu. I will pay attention to rest when the month is older."

The old lady shook her head and invited them to eat. She sighed, "Young people nowadays really don't understand. It's not like they didn't have food back then. They're working hard even though they can rest with a big belly. They don't even know if my daughter-in-law is from a wealthy family or grew up in a poor family."

Then the old lady looked at Ah Jin who was staring at her daughter-in-law in a daze and shook her head again: "Are all young girls so stupid nowadays? They don't know what to do when there are too many people around."

"Girl, my daughter-in-law is pretty, don't stare at her all the time. Bring the dishes over here, grandma will wash them later."

Xia Jin finally reacted and said, "Okay, grandma, you just said that your daughter-in-law is pregnant."

The old lady suddenly opened up: "That's right, the couple has a very good relationship, and they wanted a child late, so they should rest more now. But it's because they have such a good relationship that an old woman like me is worried. She's not young anymore, and she's running around with a big belly. What if something happens? Either of them would be heartbroken."

Xia Jin smiled innocently and comforted the old lady, saying, "It's okay, grandma. Your daughter-in-law is not young anymore, so she must know her own limits. You should stop worrying about that and just be a grandmother."

The old lady was disappointed and shook her head and left: "Young people nowadays don't understand."
