The Three-Life Stone
Chapter 8 Prince
In March, the day before Bei Mingmo came to Jiangzhou, it rained lightly in Jiangzhou, but the next day the sun was shining brightly again.
Xia Jin walked on the street watching the carriages passing by. The wind blew up the curtains of the carriages. A young man had his black hair tied up and fixed with a jade-inlaid gilt crown. He looked strong and handsome, with an innate nobility. He still made people feel unattainable like in his previous life.
"Have you heard? The prince will be coming to his fiefdom soon. I heard that he is eighteen years old and has not yet married."
"Not only is he unmarried, he doesn't even have a concubine. I'm afraid he's gay."
Recently, when I walked on the street, I often heard a few words about this prince whom I had never met before, but I didn't expect him to be so low-key. I took a quick glance at Xia Jin and saw a smile in her eyes, but she didn't show it.
"Sister Ajin, you should take this way, it's closer." Qinghuan followed Xia Jin and reminded her.
"It's okay, just walk a little further, it's just right for a stroll." Xia Jin smiled faintly and touched Qing Huan's head and said. This road can bypass his house, and if you are lucky, you may be able to see him from a distance.
"Sister Ajin, we already have plenty of food. Do we still need to buy so much?" Qinghuan blinked in confusion.
"As long as it is stored properly and obtained in a legitimate way, the food will not go bad." Xia Jin smiled faintly and said nothing more.
"Sister Ajin, you're not planning to open a herbal medicine shop, are you?" Qinghuan joked as he looked at another bag of herbs.
"What's in your head? You can't just open a shop like that?" Xia Jin pointed at Qinghuan's head and said in a strange tone.
"Hehehe, I'm asking because I don't understand." Qinghuan said, rubbing his head.
"Our Qinghuan is truly a studious girl!" Xia Jin said lovingly.
The food was delivered directly to the door by a clerk, and not long after they arrived at the drugstore, Qinghe arrived on a horse-drawn carriage. Seeing that his sister could get along with the lady like sisters, his heart softened a little.
"Your Highness, what do you think?" Si Yu stood behind Bei Ming Mo and asked.
Ever since Bei Ming Mo came here, there have been many young ladies from small families passing by, and the masters of wealthy families would also hint explicitly or implicitly that their daughters are as beautiful as fairies and talented. However, it is hard to understand why such a persistent woman would not get close to them at all.
"Investigate. If she is innocent, let her go." Bei Mingmo said coldly, playing with the teacup without even raising his head.
"Yes."
Within two days, Si Yu came to report and gave a brief account of what happened during Xia Jin's visit over the past year.
"Interesting." Bei Mingmo's lips curled up slightly.
"I will keep an eye on it." Si Yu replied timidly. He didn't expect that a woman's background would be so complicated.
Another year has passed. There was little rainfall this year, and people worked harder, but the harvest was 30% lower. Everyone was wondering if there would be a drought. Some families had already planted two or three acres of sweet potatoes, and some families with better conditions had kept some extra grain at home.
This year, Xia Jin distributed porridge less frequently than usual. It was not because there was not enough food, but because she wanted to avoid the spotlight.
Bei Ming Mo looked at this year's harvest and reminded the county magistrate early to collect grain from other places as a precautionary measure. He also purchased some grain and stored it in the mansion.
The drought did not come, but heavy rain came. The inn was full of people, and some passers-by were caught off guard and had nowhere to go. The wealthy would pay some money just to ask for a place to stay and some food to fill their stomachs. Xia Jin had expanded the porridge stall a few days ago, originally intending to hold a food appreciation event. Now that the event has not been held, it has been put to other uses.
Even the sunshade curtains next to them were now of some use in keeping out the wind and rain. Xia Jin would ask Wang Po to boil some ginger soup and send it over every day. Some benches were put together and clean mattresses were placed on them. Some strangers gradually became familiar with each other and huddled together to keep each other warm.
Every day Xia Jin would add some side dishes to the porridge cooked by Wang Po, not just the plain porridge. Most people were grateful for Xia Jin's actions, and a small number of people thought that if she was really kind-hearted, she would let them live in the house. A sturdy house, even if they had to sleep on the floor, was much better than living in a shed.
The rain lasted for a whole month, sometimes heavy and sometimes light. Fortunately, Bei Ming Mo always paid attention to the disaster that had not happened. He sent people to inform the county magistrate in advance to check the ditch drainage device, and also sent his own people to check it again. Some people ran in the rain and now no one has any complaints.
Bei Ming Mo did not appear on the stage. Instead, he methodically instructed his men behind the scenes to check the casualties and minimize the crisis.
The people below rushed to the homes of various common people. Some people would personally deliver food to some of the elderly, the weak, the sick and the disabled who were inconvenient. Most families received a food coupon that could be used to get food and medicine from the government. Emergency shelters were also set up, and some businesses that made money in a dirty way were suppressed. This disaster came suddenly, and everyone fought together with one mind. Some men with better physical fitness also joined the rescue team after receiving treatment.
A month later, it rained for another half a month. Although the situation was under control, a lot of food was consumed although there was plenty. More importantly, there was a shortage of medicinal materials. The continuous rainy days and the damp and cold weather made some people with weak constitutions fall ill early. Even though Bei Ming Mo was prepared, he did not expect the rain to last so long and with so many people, the consumption was fast.
"Your Highness, Mrs. Xia wants to see you. She said she has something to discuss with you and can help you solve your urgent problem." Jiang Chen came over to report.
"Oh? Xia Jin...what is your purpose?" Bei Mingmo murmured, and after a while he said, "Let her in."
"If there is no severe drought, there will be heavy rain. But you wrote that?" Bei Ming Mo stared at the woman who walked in. She was about fifteen or sixteen years old, dressed simply, and had her hair tied in a bun.
"Your Highness, this was written by me." Xia Jin bowed and ignored Bei Mingmo's scrutinizing gaze.
"I heard that you happened to expand the porridge shed and rescued some refugees?" Bei Ming Mo continued to ask.
"Your Highness has already said that it is just a coincidence. Is that what Your Highness wants to ask?" Xia Jin looked at the man in front of her with a distrustful look and remained calm.
"I just think that Madam Xia has made an invaluable contribution. I wonder what it is that I have come here to discuss this time?" Bei Ming Mo sat down, motioned Xia Jin to sit down as well, and waved his hand to ask someone to prepare new tea.
"Your Highness, don't worry about the medicinal herbs. I have prepared some extra in my yard. Your Highness can ask someone to get them." Xia Jin took a sip of tea and said slowly with a smile.
"Oh~ Was this also prepared by Mrs. Xia by chance?" Bei Ming Mo asked with a playful smile.
"Of course not." Xia Jin smiled and met Bei Mingmo's eyes with an unfathomable look.
"No matter whether you happened to know about the preparations for this rain or did it on purpose, I will remember what you did. If you have any purpose, I will not let you go." Bei Ming Mo stared at Xia Jin seriously and said word by word.
"Don't worry, Your Majesty. I just want to share your worries, that's all." Xia Jin stared at the tea in her hand, took a sip and continued.
