Chapter 35 Buying a Carriage
Tang Peipei weighed the pros and cons in his mind. Buying a carriage would cost eighteen taels, and renting a carriage would cost twenty taels a day. They were planning to travel far away after the New Year, so they would definitely need a carriage. So it would be better to buy one now so that it would be convenient to use.
But the problem was that she didn't know how to drive a carriage, and she couldn't recognize a horse or understand anything about it, which was a real problem.
After thinking about it, I decided to go and have a look before making a decision.
"Can you take me to see it?" Tang Peipei asked.
"Of course, please come this way." The waiter took Tang Peipei to the stable again.
"Please take a look first. If you need an introduction, just tell me." The waiter said and stood aside obediently.
Tang Peipei looked at them one by one first, but really didn't know how to choose.
He stood there in a tangle, staring at the horse.
The waiter seemed to see Tang Peipei's difficulties and came over.
"Young lady, have you decided which horse to buy? If you really don't know, I can recommend one for you."
Tang Peipei nodded, "Okay, please recommend one."
"My dear, if you have never driven a carriage before, I suggest you choose a docile one. It will be easier for you to handle it."
As he said this, he took Tang Peipei to the second row, in front of the third horse.
"This horse arrived three days ago. It has a docile personality and has just reached adulthood. Its carrying capacity is also acceptable. I suggest you choose it."
Tang Peipei looked at the horse in front of him. It was completely black with a tuft of white hair on its head. It was eating horse feed and looked quite docile.
The main reason is that it looks pretty good, and Tang Peipei likes this horse.
Although I like it in my heart, I don't show it on my face.
"How much is this horse?"
The waiter said: "This horse is just an adult, so the price is not expensive, thirteen taels of silver each."
"Okay, I'll go check out the carriage." Tang Peipei said.
The waiter took Tang Peipei to the place where the carriages were stored.
There aren’t many styles here. The first one is the simplest, with just a body and a bench inside, and a window on both sides and the back of the car.
The second car had simple carvings on the body, windows on three sides, and a storage box inside the car with a blanket on the box so people could sit directly on it.
The third car looks similar to the second one, but it has two more low benches.
The fourth car has better-looking carvings on its body, is much larger, and has three storage lockers inside.
The fifth car was a little bigger, with more delicate carvings, and there was even a low table inside.
Tang Peipei took a quick look and didn't look at any more. She also didn't look at the ones that came after that because they weren't suitable for her.
She chose the fourth one, which looked low-key but had room for things, making it more suitable for long-distance travel.
"How much is that one?" Tang Peipei pointed at the fourth car.
"This carriage costs seven taels of silver, and combined with the horse that the young lady chose, the total is twenty taels," said the waiter.
"Brother Xiao Er, I'll give you fifteen taels for your horse and carriage." Tang Peipei said.
Waiter...this is too much.
"My dear lady, I don't think your price is too high. Could you please give me a sincere price?" The waiter had finally got a business deal and didn't want to lose it, so he advised.
"I'm very sincere, so how much can you sell it for?" Tang Peipei kicked the ball back.
"Well, how about this? I won't even ask for money from you. For the eighteen taels, how about I just give you two taels less?" The waiter looked as if he had suffered a great loss.
"Brother Xiao Er, don't make such a serious expression. Sixteen taels, if I can sell it, I'll buy it. If not, I'll leave. Anyway, there's no rush." After saying that, Tang Peipei turned and walked out the door.
When the waiter saw that Tang Peipei was really about to leave, he gritted his teeth, stamped his feet, and quickly called out to Tang Peipei to stop.
"Don't go, little lady. Sell it. I'll sell it."
Tang Peipei turned her back to him, pulled the corner of her mouth, turned around and said: "Let's go and handle the formalities?"
The waiter was confused. What did the formalities mean?
Tang Peipei slapped his forehead and said, "Let's go and write the paperwork."
The waiter then realized that he was asked to write a sales document.
He took Tang Peipei back to the room with the desk, wrote the document and handed it to Tang Peipei.
Tang Peipei read it and found no problem, so she signed it.
All formalities have been completed and the payment has been made.
Tang Peipei asked the waiter to teach her how to drive a horse-drawn carriage. After about half an hour, Tang Peipei was able to drive it quite well.
With the carriage, Tang Peipei happily drove it back to the restaurant alley.
Tang's mother waited and waited at home. Seeing that Tang Peipei had been out for an hour and had not returned yet, she was worried that something had happened and looked around anxiously outside the gate.
Seeing Tang Peipei driving the carriage back, my uneasy heart finally settled down.
"Girl, what took you so long? Didn't I tell you to come back earlier?" Tang's mother hurried forward.
Tang Peipei jumped down from the carriage and said, "Mom, it's okay. I just took some time to choose the horse, and it took me some time to learn how to drive the carriage."
Tang's mother asked curiously, "Why? You rent a carriage, but does the carriage company provide a driver?"
"No, I bought this carriage. It costs one or two taels of silver a day to rent a carriage. I thought I would need it in the future anyway, so I just bought a carriage." Tang Peipei tied the carriage to the gatepost of the courtyard.
"Did you buy it? How much?" asked Tang's mother.
Tang Peipei smiled and said, "Sixteen taels. There are three lockers in this carriage, which will be just right for when we go on a long journey at the beginning of the year."
Mother Tang nodded and went into the yard with Tang Peipei.
Put all your belongings into the carriage and lock the door.
Tang Peipei sent Nanny Yuan to the city gate where she sat in a carriage.
After saying goodbye to Nanny Yuan, Tang Peipei drove the carriage towards Taohua Village.
It was Tang Peipei’s first time driving a cart, and since little Tuanzi was with him, he didn’t dare drive too fast, so he drove slowly all the way, only slightly faster than other ox carts.
Tang Peipei couldn't quite remember the way to Taohua Village, so her mother sat in the car holding the little girl and reminded her from time to time.
Although Tang Peipei drove the carriage slowly, it still saved half the time compared to walking.
It was almost 15:00 when we arrived at Taohua Village.
Looking at Taohua Village which she had not seen for a long time, Tang's mother was very emotional and a little worried.
She was divorced, and she didn't know if her family knew about it. What would her father say? What would her mother say?
She still remembered her mother's words when she got married, "My daughter, starting tomorrow, you will be married. If you want a harmonious family, you must remember what your mother told you. In the future, you must put your husband first in everything you do, regard your husband as your heaven, and bear children for him."
She did what her mother taught her, but she also didn't do it for the sake of her daughter. I wonder how her mother would feel when she knew that she was divorced?
Hey!
Thinking of this, Tang's mother lowered the curtain and felt a little depressed.
Tang Peipei naturally didn't know what her mother was feeling at the moment. Looking at the scenery of the village, she recalled some things from her childhood.
The two men had different feelings, and the carriage stopped in front of a house.
This is Tang Peipei’s grandparents’ home.
Tang Peipei helped her mother out of the car and knocked on the gate.
