My Military Career in a Parallel World

Chapter 202 Explosive Training!

"Speed up! The mines must be deployed within ten minutes!"

Under Ge Hongtao's urging, the people in the third company could only speed up their actions again.

Fortunately, the army's engineering shovels were sturdy enough. If it were an ordinary shovel, it would have broken or bent long ago after being treated like this.

Burying anti-tank mines is just an appetizer, at most it will consume some physical strength.

The real difficulty is yet to come!

Their training today includes not only the deployment of mines, but also subjects on bomb disposal and blasting.

The reconnaissance company’s blasting class is not just playing house, it’s real explosion!

Although the amount of explosives has been reduced, the power is still great.

If we don't retreat in time, people may be killed!

Anyway, after seeing the power of the explosive pack, Jiang Chen felt unwell instantly.

When I was taking the theory class before, I didn’t think there was anything wrong.

Just reading what books say about the power, performance, characteristics, scope of application, etc. of TNT does not give you an intuitive feeling.

It was different now. Seeing the simulated target being destroyed with his own eyes and the stones and gravel flying from the explosion hitting his body, Jiang Chen suddenly shuddered.

Damn, could someone really die?

Jiang Chen really wanted to find an excuse to slip away at this moment, at least to give him time to experience the dream space for real. Otherwise, he would be really unsure!

However, our Captain Ge was watching him from the side and didn't give him any chance to escape.

No matter how reluctant he was, Jiang Chen had no choice but to go ahead with it.

The simulated target was a building made of sandbags and wooden plank walls.

Jiang Chen needs to observe the structure of the building and adjust the amount and layout of explosives to achieve the blasting effect required by Ge Hongtao.

"Don't be nervous. Follow what we learned in the theory class. These are the simplest targets. As long as you find the right blasting point, there will be no problem!" Han Li patted Jiang Chen on the shoulder and encouraged him.

"Okay, I understand. Thank you, Brother Han!"

Jiang Chen took a few deep breaths to calm the panic in his heart.

Following the training process, I came to the simulated target and observed it carefully.

His simulated target was a bridge, and the requirements were simple: to destroy the target as quickly as possible with the least amount of explosives.

While he was observing the target, Li Gang, Han Li and others were also making preparations on the other side.

It is impossible for recruits to have no protective measures at all when they are exposed to blasting training for the first time.

If someone really dies, who will be responsible?

So, although it seemed that Jiang Chen was operating the detonation of the explosives, in fact, the control of the detonation was in the hands of Li Gang, the squad leader.

No matter what Jiang Chen does, the explosives will not explode until he retreats to a safe position.

This is similar to the special forces training plot in TV dramas in previous lives. It seems extremely dangerous, but in fact everything is under control.

Of course, this is a treatment only for new recruits, and veterans do not have this benefit.

At most, the detonation time would be slightly extended to give them enough time to retreat.

In fact, the blasting training of the reconnaissance company is not that difficult. As long as the soldiers don’t slack off in theoretical classes, 90% of them can complete the task successfully.

After all, scouts rarely come into contact with subjects that require precision blasting, and the amount of explosives is not as precise as that required by special forces.

For example, if you were asked to use explosives to destroy a bridge or to use explosives to destroy a door or a wall, which one do you think is more difficult?

No doubt it's the latter.

The former can be done by any fool or idiot as long as the amount is sufficient, while the latter requires a wealth of theoretical knowledge, plus experience accumulated from countless practices.

The development of things was indeed as expected.

With solid theoretical support, Jiang Chen found the best blasting position without much effort.

Prepare the explosives, install the detonator to provide the initial explosion energy, and finally install the detonating cord and retreat to a safe location...

Everything seemed normal, but in fact, both the detonator that Jiang Chen placed in the explosive bag and the detonating cord used to detonate the explosives had been tampered with in advance.

The detonating cord automatically extinguished when it burned to the last half meter. After making sure that there was no problem, Li Gang, who was standing in the team, quietly stepped back, took out the detonator that he had prepared long ago, and pressed it.

Boom~

A ball of fire rose up, and the simulated bridge made of sandbags and wooden boards was destroyed in an instant.

Splinters of wood and gravel were scattered everywhere...

Jiang Chen is not the only one who receives this treatment. Lu Xingwang and Su Yu also receive similar treatment.

It’s not that Ge Hongtao, Li Gang and others are soft-hearted, but blasting itself is the most risky subject, no doubt about it.

TNT doesn't care who you are. If you're not careful, losing your life is the least of your worries. But if you end up with a serious disability, you won't even have a place to cry.

Take explosion scenes in movies and TV shows, for example.

Do you think these people have no experience? Do they not have solid theoretical knowledge?

That doesn't exist. This is my major and I study it every day.

But, what was supposed to happen still happened.

Moreover, what kind of explosives did they use? What kind of explosives did Jiang Chen and others use for training...

Do you understand the value of these three letters TNT? !

TNT, the full name of trinitrotoluene, is a high explosive that can produce 4200~4800 kilojoules of energy per kilogram.

At the moment of the explosion, the temperature of the surrounding environment rises sharply, which can melt metal within a certain range and easily destroy brick and stone and concrete structures. The generated shock wave can cause the building to collapse.

Even military fortifications such as bunkers, trenches, and air-raid shelters cannot effectively block the power of a TNT explosion.

The shock wave of the explosion can even penetrate the protective layer of fortifications, causing casualties to personnel and equipment inside.

Even for fortifications buried deep underground, the seismic effect caused by the TNT explosion can cause certain damage.

This may not be intuitive enough.

Take hand grenades as an example.

One kilogram of TNT is roughly equivalent to the explosive charge of twenty grenades.

In other words, the explosive charge of a grenade is only about 50 grams of TNT.

Although the lethality of grenades mainly depends on the shrapnel produced after the explosion, it also shows from the side how terrifying TNT is.

As for why we don't switch to other explosives that are less powerful and safer, and switch to TNT after we become more proficient...

This is simpler.

Other explosives would require too much charge to achieve the same effect, and soldiers are limited in how much weight they can carry.

Not to mention, there is also an inertial thinking and adaptation process involved.

If you don't start preparing now, it will be too late when you need it.

……

After the blasting training, the next step is bomb disposal training.

Just like learning blasting before, bomb disposal also starts with a theoretical class, and the content of the first half is similar to that of the blasting class.

It all starts with understanding the composition, properties, explosion mechanisms of various common explosives, and learning the characteristics, stability, sensitivity, power and other theoretical knowledge of different types of explosives.

Then, go deeper step by step and learn about various common explosive devices, such as IED, time bombs, and remote-controlled bombs.

Understand the appearance characteristics, triggering mechanism, possible hiding methods, etc. of explosive devices.

Finally, learn how to use and maintain various bomb disposal tools and equipment.

The last thing is the training of soldiers' psychological qualities.

This is similar to the blasting subject we just discussed.

Of course, as a scout, Jiang Chen and others do not need to be proficient in so many things like professional bomb disposal experts.

The focus of their training is mostly on mine clearance.
