I am the Pope in the Western Fantasy World

Chapter 1 Crown of Holy Light

"Eternal God of Fate, your people ask for your mercy."

"All is given to fate, all is subject to fate, all is according to your will, may our destiny be everlasting."

The streets are so lively and the air is filled with a cheerful atmosphere. People coming and going are holding white bouquets in their hands and wearing white wreaths on their heads or wrists. They greet each other and sing hymns praising the god of fate.

In this remote little city, such bustle has not been seen for a long time.

This is the annual day of God's descent. It is said that on this day, Ansiel, the god of destiny, will descend to the world and bless his believers, and the Church of Destiny will hold a celebration to welcome the arrival of the god.

"Tom! You're cheating again! I'll beat you to death!"

The fat woman glared at the boy who was stuffing snacks into his clothes, picked up her shoes and threw them at the boy.

The thin boy was still busy grabbing the snacks on the table, but his nimble body cleverly avoided the oncoming attack.

The muddy shoes knocked the remaining fruits and snacks on the table along with the plates, breaking them into pieces.

"It's over! This is going to be served to His Holiness the Pope!"

The fat woman screamed and looked at the mess on the ground in panic. "You damned fellow, I'm going to take you to the Knight Commander and put you in jail. Oh my, what shall I do?"

The fat woman regretted that she had indulged the boy in eating secretly several times before and did not hand him over to the Vatican.

The boy pursed his lips and hesitantly took out the snacks he had just packed from his arms. There were still five or six pieces left. They still looked tempting, but were covered with some dust.

"Aunt Jennifer, I'm sorry. I didn't know this was prepared for the Pope. The celebration is about to begin. If I can't deliver it on time, I will be punished." The boy said with some guilt.

He knew very well that if he had not been able to steal some food here in the previous few times, he would have starved to death, but he did not expect that today's snacks would be so expensive.

The fat woman took the remaining five snacks and placed them on a plate. Even though they might be contaminated with uncleanness, it was too late to prepare them. These snacks were made from the flowers of fate collected at midnight, and it would take a day to prepare them. According to custom, the Pope must eat these snacks before starting the celebration to show his loyalty and purity to God.

Jennifer rolled her eyes at him. "We can only send it over like this. I hope the God of Fate won't blame us. Don't let me see you in the kitchen again!"

Then she pointed at the mess on the ground and said, "Clean all this up. I'm going to take some snacks to His Holiness the Pope."

The boy looked at her gratefully, with a hint of hesitation in his eyes, and Jennifer had already walked away.

Jennifer walked towards the palace nervously, but she remained calm on the surface. At the door of the palace stood an old man in a white robe. The corner of his robe was embroidered with a golden flower of fate, indicating that the old man was one of the three bishops of the Holy See.

"These are snacks prepared for His Holiness the Pope. May God bless you!" Jennifer said with a smile.

The bishop looked at the five small snacks lying alone on the exquisite large plate, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but he didn't say much, just said "Come in."

Entering the palace, there were busy servants inside, and sitting in the middle was His Holiness the Pope.

At this moment, His Holiness the Pope seemed to be resting with his eyes closed. Jennifer could see his delicate and youthful face and the long gray hair that was unique to the Grey family.

His Holiness the Pope is only 23 years old, but he has been the Pope of the Church of Destiny for four years.

Jennifer carefully placed the plate on the table, and this action seemed to wake up His Holiness the Pope. He opened his eyes with a cold expression. His icy blue eyes frightened her. She hurriedly half-knelt down, "Your Majesty, this is your snack."

The Pope nodded and began to enjoy his snacks. She breathed a sigh of relief and left.

Jennifer walked briskly, and the people around her couldn't help but marvel at how nimbly she walked despite her huge body.

She thought to herself that after completing her morning tasks, she would go back to dress up and then happily attend the celebration.

The celebration started on time at ten o'clock in the morning. For this city ruled by the Church of Destiny, the annual celebration of God's descent is of great significance.

Pure white and holy petals of the God of Destiny fell in the air. The princes and nobles who attended the ceremony stood in reverence. Amid cheers, His Holiness the Pope led the people of the Vatican and ordinary believers to the statue of the God of Destiny.

Phil Gray was surrounded by the crowd, listening to the words praising the God of Destiny and the Pope. He felt a little flustered inside. The reason for his panic was that he had no idea how to complete this celebration.

He had just traveled from Earth, and God knew why he woke up from a nap and found himself sitting in a magnificent palace. He had also become Phil Gray, the Pope of the Church of Destiny, and the only information he had now was the name and identity of this body and that a celebration of God's descent was about to take place.

Walking up to the statue of the God of Destiny, Phil Gray looked at the statue which was more than five meters high and was instantly amazed. He wondered how the sculptor knew the true appearance of the God of Destiny and carved the god's posture and appearance so vividly, as if the real god were reappearing.

There were endless hymns of praise in his ears, and Phil Gray heard three old men in white clothes behind him shouting in unison, "Your Holiness, please invite God to come!"

Phil Gray gritted his teeth. He had no idea what to do. What should he do? Would it be discovered that he was not the original owner?

In extreme panic, he suddenly felt a pain in his stomach and his vision began to blur. Before he fell into a coma, he suddenly remembered the black fingerprint on the cake he had just eaten. Damn it, could it be that he had eaten something dirty and got food poisoning!

"Oh no! His Holiness the Pope has fainted!"

"What's going on?"

"Help His Holiness back quickly."

As Phil Gray fell, screams rang out all around, and the celebration suddenly became noisy.

But none of this had anything to do with Phil Gray. He fell into a deep sleep. He heard a voice calling his name on Earth, but he had no strength to respond until the voice became fainter and fainter and fell into nothingness.

He didn't know how long he had slept when he began to hear the sound of people talking.

"This God's Descent Celebration has been a failure. Sigh, is this all arranged by the God of Fate?"

"Even if the Pope hadn't fainted, it wouldn't have been successful. I think the God of Destiny has long forgotten us. It's been many years since He has succeeded in descending. He doesn't care about us believers at all."

"Shh, keep your voice down, are you in contact with those people?"

"Which people? Those apostates who claim that their fate is in their own hands rather than in the hands of God? I'm not that stupid. After all, we still have to continue living in this city. There will be no good consequences if we offend the Church."

"Maybe it's because these people have pissed off God, and that's why God ignores us."

“But there are more and more people like this.”

Phil Gray listened quietly. The people who were talking seemed to be two cleaning servants. Although it was obvious that they were not speaking the language of Earth, he could understand what they meant clearly.

He waited until the two servants quieted down before he coughed and pretended that he had just woken up, "What happened to me?"

The servant shouted outside in panic, "Master Wilde, His Holiness the Pope has woken up."

The person who came in was a man dressed in black. Judging from his figure, he should be a young man. He wore a mask with black patterns, but one could see his brown pupils under the mask, and his temperament was a bit cold.

Phil Gray was surprised. This was the only person wearing black clothes he had seen in the Church of Destiny. The Church of Destiny seemed to prefer pure white, just like the color of the flower of destiny.

"Your Majesty, you are awake." Wilde bowed slightly.

"How long have I been unconscious? How did the descent ceremony go?" Phil Gray asked carefully.

"You have been in a coma for three days, and the three bishops announced that the God's Descent Ceremony has been temporarily cancelled. As for the reason for your coma, it was related to the snacks you ate before the God's Descent, which contained a highly toxic substance. However, someone from the Life Church who came to participate in the ceremony removed the toxin for you.

The cook that day was being interrogated by the Vatican. According to her, a boy had come into contact with the snacks, but now his whereabouts are unknown. Several bishops believe that it might have been done by other churches or apostates. "Wilder replied.

Phil Gray nodded and asked tentatively, "Will this poison also affect people's memory? I feel like I can't remember a lot of things."

A hint of surprise flashed across Wilder's brown eyes as he looked up and down at the Pope in front of him. The Pope's face was a little pale, and his ice-blue eyes were no longer as arrogant and indifferent as before, but were filled with confusion.

"The poison you were poisoned with was a very common toxin from the plague maker. It does not cause amnesia, so it should not have caused you to lose your memory."

"But I really can't remember. I only remember that I was the Pope of the Church of Destiny, and that I was presiding over the ceremony of God's descent before I fainted." Phil Gray rubbed his temple and said innocently.

Wilder was silent for a while, then raised the corner of his mouth slightly and looked straight at Phil Gray.

"This kind of amnesia caused by poisoning rarely happens in the Church of Destiny or other churches. However, some people in the Church of the Dead will deliberately occupy other people's bodies, usually using amnesia as an excuse. Did you know?"
