Chapter 158 Zombie Village
"Zombies? What zombies? Tell me clearly!" Morris asked in a deep voice.
"They are all zombies, they have all become zombies, ah!" The homeless man squatted down with his head in his hands.
“I’m a little delirious, but it’s okay.” Eli stretched out his hand, and green light gathered at his fingertips—“Fountain of Life”!
The green light was transmitted to the homeless man, and his emotions calmed down. Then he raised his head and looked at the people in front of him, with tears in the corners of his eyes.
"Now that you are conscious, can you tell us what these zombies are?" Phil Gray asked.
"Who... are you?" The homeless man asked with an evasive look in his eyes.
"This is the bishop of Numas City, this is the city lord, and this is the Holy Son of the Dawn Cult." Eli introduced.
“Please, help me, help my friend!” The homeless man knelt on the ground and kowtowed continuously.
"What's wrong? You need to explain the situation clearly. Is it related to zombies?" Morris clenched the scepter.
"I come from a village in the nearby city of Nanmili. One night when I woke up, I heard a strange roar. I found several people I knew standing outside my yard. Their skin was stiff and blue-gray. Their faces were hideous, drooling from the corners of their mouths. They stared at me as if they were looking at prey, just like the zombies in the legend.
"But, they were drinking and playing cards with me in the afternoon, how could it become like this! But I didn't have time to think too much, because they were about to break open the wooden door and pounce on me! I was so scared that I hid in the cellar of my house, closed the cellar roof tightly, and stayed in there for two whole days! When I came out, there was no living person in my entire village! The ground was full of broken limbs and corpses, and the blood dyed the crops red.
"I held back my sadness and desperately ran out of the village because the roaring sound was still there and the zombies had not left. I ran to a nearby village to ask for help. My married sister was also in that village, but I didn't expect that when I ran to my sister's house, I saw with my own eyes that my sister was bitten on the neck by her brother-in-law. Then, my sister's face turned blue and she turned into a zombie like them!
I could only hold back my grief and keep running, but I collapsed. The nearby villages were full of the same zombies! All of them! I had lost consciousness and could only run in a daze. I didn't know why I came here, but I just felt that it was safe here. "
The homeless man recalled painfully, cold sweat dripping from his forehead.
"Nanmili City?" Morris and Steven looked at each other. "I haven't heard the mayor of that city report this to the church."
"With so many villages being attacked by zombies, there's no way he wouldn't notice it." Steven shook his head.
"It sounds like these zombies were formed after the villagers were bitten? Could it be related to the plague maker? Could it be some kind of disease rather than the undead?" Phil Gray thought for a moment and asked.
"It could be either the plague-maker or the undead." Morris and Steven's eyes were filled with unprecedented solemnity. If what the tramp said was correct, it would be too serious. Such an incident has not happened for at least decades.
"Your Highness, I will ask another priest to take you on a tour of our city in the next period of time. The city lord and I need to go to the nearby city of Nanmili to investigate." Morris said apologetically. He and Steven were both at the divine revelation level, so it would be safer to go and check the situation in person.
"Okay, no problem, things over there are more important." Phil Gray didn't mind.
"Come with us." Steven said to the homeless man on the ground.
But the homeless man shook his head violently, "No, no, I don't want to go back!" His eyes were filled with fear, and he was about to fall into panic and confusion again.
"Forget it, let's have someone take him to the church." Morris waved his hand, and several priests who had been following them helped the homeless man away.
"Your Highness, this is Pastor Hodgson. Let him introduce you to the basic situation of the Church of the Dawn. We will leave first." Morris nodded slightly to Phil Gray, then he and Steven quickly rushed to Nanmili City.
"I hope they can successfully eliminate the zombies and save the surviving villagers." Phil Gray said to Pastor Hodgson in front of him.
This pastor looks very kind and is quite old. Judging from the divine power, he should be of high profile.
"Bishop Morris is very good at dealing with the undead. You don't have to worry. Next, I will take you to the largest God of Cookery restaurant here."
……
After a day of wandering around Numas City, Phil Gray felt a little tired, but he also had a vague feeling of uneasiness, and he didn't know why.
Just after dinner, Pastor Hodgson told them that people from the Dawn Church had arrived to greet them, and the Pope's daughter, Miss Melody, had also come.
So fast?
Phil Gray thought they wouldn't arrive until tomorrow morning.
But even if we arrive, we should set off again tomorrow morning.
"Meow~" Hei Ye jumped onto his shoulder, licked his paws, and regained some of his liveliness.
"That's Miss Melody," Hodgson introduced.
A woman in a golden robe came over. She had long hair that shone like golden threads and fell on her fair shoulders. Her eyes were deep blue and as clear as the ocean. She had a high nose bridge, rosy lips, and two dimples on both sides of her cheeks. She wore a golden lace necklace around her neck, and she looked noble.
"Hello, Miss Melody." Phil Gray greeted politely.
"Hello, Your Highness. His Holiness the Pope has asked me to come and welcome you to the City of the Sun and present you with the Crown of the Son of God." Melody half-knelt down, with her hands forming a circle, symbolizing the sun, just surrounding the sun brooch on her chest. This is the highest etiquette of the Cult of the Dawn.
"Miss Melody, there's no need to be so polite. I'm honored to go to the City of the Sun." Phil Gray helped her up. He didn't expect that the Dawn Cult valued him so much.
"We will set out early tomorrow morning in the dawn. I wonder if Your Highness the Saint has any objection?" Melody asked.
"No." Phil Gray shook his head.
"The cat on your shoulder is so cute." Melody stretched out her hand, but Hei Ye dodged it and jumped onto the other shoulder. She could only withdraw her hand awkwardly.
"Sorry, my cat is rather timid." Phil Gray touched Heiye's head.
"It's ok."
Night had fallen, and Melody stayed in the church to rest for a while.
"We're going to the Dawn Divine Church tomorrow. Can we follow you and enjoy the scenery then?" Eli said jokingly.
Who knew that Phil Gray did not reply, but frowned, looked back at Eli and Ernest, and asked in a low voice: "Did you hear any roar just now?"
