I am the Pope in the Western Fantasy World
Chapter 82 Discovering clues
Phil Gray looked at the little boy and asked, "Can you tell me what happened between you yesterday?"
The little boy looked at the money in his hand with joy, and hesitantly pushed it to Simona, "This is too much, I only need two silver coins!"
Hearing Phil Gray's question, he replied, "Yesterday I was holding a sign at the entrance of the alley, hoping someone would hire me for a short-term job, but no one showed up.
Until this brother came over and asked me if I hated my fate. I didn’t understand what he meant. He then asked me if I wanted to change my fate. I still didn’t understand. Then he threw some money at me.
The little boy scratched his head. "But I didn't ask for it. My mother said that you can't get something for nothing. He asked me to deliver a letter and he would wait for me there. He would give me two silver coins when I came back. But when I came back with the letter, he was gone."
"Can you take us there?" Phil Gray asked again.
"No problem." The little boy patted his chest, "But I have to buy medicine for my mother first."
"Okay." Phil Gray pondered. This was their first time here. What could possibly happen to Patrick?
Simona sighed, took out two silver coins from her bag, smiled and asked the little boy, "Here, go buy some medicine. By the way, my gardener has gone home and won't be back for a month. If you are free, can you help me water the plants? I will pay you."
The little boy was overjoyed, his lips trembling a little, "Okay, thank you, beautiful sister."
Simona smiled.
The Duke of Surrey pondered, "Your companion is missing? The princess is locked up in the palace, so she shouldn't be able to attack you, but we can't rule out the possibility that she has other people under her command."
"Father, if you have any way, please help us find out." Ernest said.
The Duke of Surrey has considerable influence in this capital.
"Okay." The Duke of Surrey walked slowly on the ground with his cane, "It may not be the princess. You should go to the place where she disappeared first. Maybe there will be some clues."
Phil Gray thought so too.
After leaving the pharmacy, the boy took them around in a long circle and came to a small alley. There was a wooden sign in front of the alley, which was obviously left there by him yesterday.
"This is it. He was waiting for me here yesterday." The little boy looked at them and asked, "Can I go first? I want to take the medicine home."
Phil Gray nodded.
There were no traces left on the ground, but there was an abandoned courtyard nearby.
"Eli, let's go in and take a look."
Phil Gray said this as he walked towards the yard. There was no door in the yard, revealing some moldy straw and some food residues.
Going further in, there were actually two or three rooms, with obvious signs of having been cleaned, and several iron boxes left behind.
"This is?"
Phil Gray and Eli looked at each other and saw surprise in each other's eyes.
Eli took out the fake tobacco that he had not had time to throw away from the space stone, compared it, and saw the same marks on it, both of which were produced from Malu Island.
"Did the people who are staying here buy the tobacco? Is there any connection with Patrick's disappearance?"
Phil Gray thought that perhaps the wind was too cold that night, and Patrick saw the abandoned yard here and wanted to come in to hide from the wind.
Then I met the people here, and what happened next?
"Who are the people staying here temporarily?" Eli also asked.
They searched the houses carefully again and confirmed that someone had lived there last night, and also found some scattered specialties of Malu Island.
"Let's go ask the people nearby." Phil Gray and others walked around the area and met several people living nearby.
"Excuse me, is there anyone living in that abandoned courtyard?" Eli stopped an old man who was about to enter the house.
"Are you talking about the yard in front? I don't know, those people have been living there for almost seven or eight days. They are too noisy every day, and it's hard for me to sleep. But they look so vicious, how can an old man like me dare to go up and argue with them?"
The old man lowered his voice and spoke, as if he was afraid that someone might hear him.
"Why didn't you tell the sheriff?" Phil Gray asked.
"Humph, how dare I? I even saw some nobles coming to look for them!" The old man said unhappily, and glared in the direction of the courtyard, "They are crazy, they are rich and powerful but they insist on staying in that shabby courtyard!"
"Just go away and stop asking me!"
The old man closed the door angrily.
"I also want to ask him which nobleman he met." Phil Gray shook his head helplessly.
"Why do these rich and powerful people live in this shabby courtyard?" Eli looked carefully at the iron boxes he had just found. The tobacco inside was intact and there was no sign of use.
"Could they be the group of people who came from Malu Island?" Phil Gray's eyes flashed.
Although these tobaccos are fake, they are not cheap. If these people are the buyers, why don't they enjoy them but throw them away at will?
There is a high possibility that they know these are fake, or even are the ones selling the tobacco themselves.
"Then they probably left town last night." Eli also frowned.
"Let's go ask the Duke for help." After Phil Gray said this, he and Eli walked towards the Duke's Palace again.
Ernest and Simona were asking around to see if anyone had seen Patrick, but it was already night and cold yesterday, so there were very few people around and no one would pay attention to a stranger.
Phil Gray told them what he and Eli had discovered, and asked the Duke of Surrey to send someone to investigate the people living in the courtyard.
After the guards searched and questioned the surrounding residents, it was confirmed that the people there were indeed those who came from Malu Island.
"It is very likely that Patrick left with them." Phil Gray rubbed his brows.
"Are those people also favored by God? Although Patrick's strength is not that good, he is at least a blessing-level favored one. It is impossible for him to be taken away by them so easily." Eli thought for a while and asked.
"It is also possible that your companion discovered what they were doing and just followed them," the Duke of Surrey speculated.
"No, no, no. If he wants to take action, he will not do so without telling us." Phil Gray shook his head.
"Those people left the city last night, and Viscount Ward and his knights went after them," the Duke of Surrey added.
"Thank you for your help. We are still a little worried, so I plan to go out of town with Eli to look for him." Phil Gray said, and then looked at Ernest, "The two of us are enough. You stay here. In case Patrick doesn't follow that group of people, he will come back soon and can take care of you."
Ernest obviously disagreed, but when he saw Phil Gray's determined eyes, he could only sigh and said, "You must protect yourself!"
He also realized that the Pope just wanted him to spend more time with his family.
"Okay." Phil Gray smiled back.
The Duke of Surrey called the servants and prepared the horses for them. In such an atmosphere, he and Eli should mount the horses and ride away, leaving behind a dashing back.
But Phil Gray can't ride a horse!
