Come to another world and become a lord
Chapter 41: Brutal Tactics
The area around Porter Village was peaceful for several days. Iren sat in his tent with a surprised look on his face. This was totally different from what he expected. Porter Village openly rebelled. He had predicted that Carl would send troops to quell the rebellion at the first opportunity. To ensure this, he even suggested that Village Chief Hake kill the guards stationed there and send the heads to Rickburg, in order to further stimulate Carl. However, it has been several days, and Rickburg is indeed peaceful, without any waves, as if nothing had happened. But he and Henry's troops have to be stationed in this wilderness, and have to be on guard against possible sudden attacks every day. What is going on?
"Why doesn't he send troops?" Aeron shouted almost uncontrollably when Henry came to his tent.
"You mean Carl?" Henry said slowly.
"Yeah~" Iren replied, "We robbed his village, how come he is just fine?"
"Isn't this exactly what you want?" Henry continued as if nothing had happened.
"How is it possible?" Iren roared uncontrollably, "He is staying in the castle as if nothing happened, while we have to starve here. The daily food transportation and the soldiers' salaries cost money. He wants to exhaust us to death~"
Henry did not respond immediately after hearing his words. Instead, he poured himself a glass of ale, drank a few sips, and said slowly:
"You should have predicted this situation. How could he take the initiative to attack if he didn't have an advantage in manpower?"
"I thought the village was very important to him..." Aeron spat, "After all, this Potter Village is his hometown. How can he be so calm?"
Henry didn't say anything, but just silently took another sip of beer. He had long known that Carl was an extraordinary person. From the time he led him to attack the Khan's base at night, his courage and insight surpassed most people.
When he put down his glass, Aeron sighed again, and then suddenly asked:
"Do you think the Earl will pay for this expedition?"
Henry shook his head calmly and said:
"In theory, he should pay for it, but you know what kind of character our Lord Earl is."
Hearing Henry's words, Aeron's mood became even more depressed.
"Then what should we do?" he asked, "How long will it take to waste time like this?"
"Hmm~" Henry thought for a while, then said, "How about we just retreat now."
"What?" Aeron was shocked.
But I heard Henry continue to say slowly:
"When Rickburg attacks Porter Village, we will mobilize troops to reinforce them."
Hearing Henry's suggestion, Aeron almost choked to death on his own saliva. Reikburg was less than half a day's distance from Porter Village. Once the troops retreated, how would they deal with Reikburg's sudden attack on Porter Village? It would take at least three or four days from receiving the news, reassembling the troops, to setting out. During this period, could Porter Village hold on by itself? If Carl only had the local garrison of Reikburg, it would be fine, but he happened to have Alia's Fire Rose Guards, which became a big problem. Facing this mercenary team that even Prime Minister Aaron highly praised, I'm afraid that these trash from Porter Village would not be able to stop it for a day!
As a veteran who had fought for many years, how could Henry not understand this? He was originally opposed to this action, and now he pretended to be ignorant. Thinking of this, Aeron became furious:
"Are you going to laugh at me?"
Hearing Iren's complaint, Henry continued to ask calmly:
"Then tell me what to do?"
"I..." Iren was speechless for a moment, "I just can't think of a solution, so I want to ask you~"
The old knight let out a long sigh, put down his glass and said:
"If you ask me, the location of Porter Village will be uncontrollable unless we can take over Rickburg. As long as Rickburg is still in his hands, we will never be able to control Porter Village."
“The Earl will not like this,” Aeron warned.
"I am just telling the truth. The Earl is not rational enough in this matter." Henry continued. He paused for a moment and then said, "Or do you have any tricks to force Karl to go out of the city to fight?"
"I……"
Aeron wanted to say something else, but suddenly he froze as if he had thought of something. Then an idea flashed in his mind, and a cunning smile appeared on his face:
"Don't mention it. I just thought of such a method."
"Huh?" Henry's face showed an alert expression for a moment.
And Aeron continued to say with a smile:
"Come on, old man, let's go to Potter Village~"
As he spoke, he was the first to walk out of the tent.
It took only half an hour to walk from Iren's camp to Porter Village. When they were still some distance away from the village, they saw the village chief Hake and his son jogging over and kneeling down in front of them. Then there was the highest standard of welcome. In the village chief's house, they were arranged to sit in the upper seat, and Lisa, wearing a tight long skirt, poured wine for them.
However, none of this concerned Aeron. He put on his gloomy expression again, and then said coldly to Dickens, the son of the village chief:
"How's that guy?"
"Still the same as always, very stubborn and unwilling to eat! It's as if I owe him something!" Dickens said complainingly.
"Okay, bring him up," said Aeron.
"Yes~" Then Henry saw Dickens bow respectfully to Iren and then retreat.
Henry was confused. He was just trying to find Ellen, but soon after, he saw Dickens come back again, and behind him there were three more people. Two young guards were holding a dirty man with blood stains on his body. His clothes were tattered, his hair was messy, and his expression was extremely haggard. However, Henry still recognized the man. It was none other than Carl's good friend Jim. After recognizing him, he was so surprised that he almost jumped up.
"Iron, what are you doing?"
And Aeron just smiled and said:
"Do you remember this person? Carl's right-hand man. I remember his name was Jim, right~"
"What do you want to do?" Henry asked bluntly.
"Carl's best friend, what do you think he would do if he knew his friend was dying?"
"This..." Henry stood up and shouted angrily, "You can't do this, it's not in line with chivalry!"
"Sorry, old man, I never considered myself a knight~" Aeron said indifferently, then waved to the two guards, who understood what he meant and pressed Jim to the ground.
Then Henry saw Ellen slowly walk to Jim, then squatted down:
"Jim, I need you to do something for me~"
The latter just raised his head weakly and spat at Aeron with his limited strength:
"Don't dream. Even if I die, I won't let you succeed!"
"Ah~ Sorry, this is not up to you. I will tell Carl that if he wants you to live, he must go out of the city and fight like a man~ Of course, words alone are not enough, we need to be more convincing~" As Aeron said this, he took out a dagger and cut off Jim's little finger amid Jim's shrill screams.
