Come to another world and become a lord

Chapter 62: The Storm in Greyburg

It was late at night when the carriage carrying Henry's body arrived at Greyburg. It was dark and quiet all around, with only a faint fire on the sentry post near the gate. The night guard looked at the twinkling fire on the convoy and shouted alertly:

"who?"

"It's me~" William walked out of the dark night and looked up at the guard.

"Ah, it's Lord William~" the guard hurriedly saluted.

"My uncle was not feeling well, so we came back early," William continued.

"Ah? Lord Henry is in that carriage?"

"That's right," William replied.

The guard looked at the carriage with some doubt. It was a luxurious carriage with a black roof. The windows were covered tightly by curtains, and he couldn't see the state inside. But he remembered that Lord Henry rode a horse when he went out, and there was no carriage? And... He looked at the carriage again. There were guards standing around the carriage, each wearing armor and holding a spear. There were about ten of them. Did Lord Henry bring so many people when he went out? He remembered that he only brought William and two personal servants.

Grey Castle was not very big, and he basically knew all the guards and servants here. As for this group of people, although it was dark and he couldn't see their faces clearly, he could still be sure that except Lord William, no one was familiar to him.

"These guards are..."

"My uncle is seriously ill, so Lord Morton specially arranged a carriage and ordered his guards to personally escort us back. Is there any problem?" William continued to shout.

After hearing William's explanation, everything seemed to make sense. Moreover, William was Henry's nephew and had been raised by Henry since he was a child. It could be said that the two were as close as father and son. Since William said so, there should be no problem. The guard thought, but for some reason, he always had a feeling that something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what was wrong.

After thinking it over again and again, he finally decided to confirm it again, so he shouted to William:

"If you don't mind, could Lord Henry show his face or say a word?"

"I've already told you that my uncle is very ill. Do you still want him to come out and talk?" William's tone was obviously a little impatient.

"That's not what I meant." The guard said hurriedly, "It's just that it's so late now, and we don't see Lord Henry himself, so it's hard to be sure that the person in the carriage is..."

"What? You don't even believe what I say?" William continued to shout.

"No, no~" He shook his head again, thought for a moment, and finally said in a negotiating tone:

"How about I go to Miss Selena first, and Sir William will have to wait outside..."

"I've already told you that my uncle is very ill, but you want us to wait outside. Are you trying to harm my uncle on purpose?" William was becoming more and more impatient.

"No, I have no such intention..." The guard waved his hands, "It's just that I haven't seen Lord Henry..."

But his attitude was still firm. William could only shake his head helplessly. Finally, he sighed:

"Wait a minute~"

After saying that, he walked to the side of the carriage, lifted one leg of the curtain slightly, and stuck his head in. He seemed to be listening to something, and nodded seriously. After a while, he lowered the curtain, walked back and said:

"My uncle asked you to come over. He will talk to you in person."

"Come over, come over?" The guard looked at William below, then at the carriage. If he went over, wouldn't the city gate have to be opened? He thought hesitantly.

Seeing that the other party hesitated again, William said unhappily again:

"My uncle has no strength to speak or walk now. What do you want him to do?"

Then he changed the subject and said:

"Don't worry, we'll just wait here. Without your consent, we won't go in even if the city gate is opened. Besides, I'm already here, so you have nothing to worry about!"

Looking at William's impatient expression, he hesitated again and again, and finally compromised:

"I, I understand.~"

He nodded, stepped down from his sentry post, slowly opened the city gate, and then saw William at the city gate taking the initiative to make way for him:

"My uncle is there. Go and talk to him."

He walked forward hesitantly. As he got closer to the carriage, he finally saw the faces of the soldiers around him. They were all strangers, and the two servants Henry brought with him were not among them. He felt uneasy again. The soldiers had expressionless faces and held weapons in their hands, which made the air filled with a murderous atmosphere.

He swallowed, walked forward again, and finally came to the black carriage. With trepidation, he opened the curtains and saw Baron Henry sitting quietly in the carriage. Oh~ Thank God, it was really the Baron. At this moment, his heart was finally at ease.

Just as he was about to greet the baron, he suddenly noticed a horrible detail. Henry was pale, and there was a big hole in his chest where a sword had pierced through it! Blood was spilling out of the hole, staining his entire clothes, and it had already solidified and turned black. It looked like he had been dead for some time.

"This!" He was about to scream, but his mouth was covered from behind. Then he felt a sharp pain in his chest. A spear had pierced his left lung from behind. The guard fell to the ground. He could no longer make any sound. Blood flooded his alveoli. He could only cough continuously as if he was drowning, and could not breathe any air.

William walked slowly to the carriage, looked down at the poor guard, and took out a handkerchief and threw it to the soldier who had taken action:

"Wipe the blood off your body and don't let anyone see it."

Then he turned to another soldier and said:

"Inform Selena as soon as you get to town. Tell her that her father is very ill and wants to see her in the bedroom. Let her come alone."

The soldier nodded in obedience.

The convoy began to move again, leaving behind the body of the guard and slowly entering Greyburg.

On the second floor of Grey Castle, in Selena's bedroom, the girl couldn't believe the news that her father was dying. Her maid had informed her before that her father and cousin had returned, and her father was riding in a carriage. This made her a little confused. It was very unusual for her father to ride in a carriage. In her impression, her father was always proud of his knighthood, riding a horse all year round and refusing any luxury. Such an abnormal situation made her feel a little uneasy.

When the soldier knocked on her door and told her that he was critically ill, she suddenly realized that her uneasiness had come true. Selena was almost shocked by the sudden news, and she wanted to rush to see her father immediately. But then she suddenly realized a detail: she seemed to have never seen the guard who came to report!

Selena was not the kind of person who thought highly of herself. She liked everyone in the castle. She knew all the servants and guards here, their names, their preferences. But she didn't know the man in front of her.

"Um..." She said softly, somewhat uncertainly, "Can I ask... who you are?"

"Me?" For a moment, the guard was surprised, as if he had never thought that the other party would ask this question. He was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to answer. After a long time, he stammered, "I, I am a subordinate of Lord William."

"I'm sorry... I just... I haven't seen you before..."

"Ah...ah~ That's right. To be honest, I haven't been Lord William's bodyguard for long. If Lord William hadn't noticed me, I would still be a farmer in the fields~" He kept rolling his eyes and gave a somewhat far-fetched explanation.

"Oh...oh..." Selena nodded slightly puzzled.

"By the way, don't mind my business. Lord Henry is really in a hurry. He is eager to see you now! Please follow me."

Selena was still a little confused, but when the guard mentioned Henry again, her worry about her father overwhelmed everything, and she threw away her doubts about the guard. She nodded vigorously and followed the guard out of the room.
