Come to another world and become a lord

Chapter 78: The End of Iren

When Carl returned to Greyburg, he saw that the four presidents had already started to pack their things. After seeing Carl, they all saluted.

"What are you preparing for?" Carl asked in confusion.

"Ah, nothing~" President Edmund replied with a smile, "Just now when Lord Karl was away, we discussed and planned to take advantage of Morton's defeat to continue south and plunder Morgan Territory."

"Pilgrimage to Morgan Territory?"

"That's right." Katerin smiled, "Since we have hired mercenaries, it would be a waste if we didn't use them. I don't want to make a loss. And it's not just us. The mercenary captains also have this intention. That's their usual style. Simply taking the commission home won't satisfy the people below."

"Ah~ It's the old tradition of the mercenary group." Alia shook her head and said, "Robbery, food, and women~"

Indeed, this is the characteristic of this era, Carl thought, and in the end it is the honest people who suffer.

"As expected of the captain of the Fire Rose Guard, Lady Alia is also an old mercenary." Edmund smiled, and then said, "We can't occupy the nobles' land, but it's not a problem to rob them."

"So, you used to do this often?" Carl turned around and looked at Alia.

"At least we don't touch women~" Alia said nonchalantly, even with a hint of mischief in her tone.

"Hmm~" Karl nodded thoughtfully, and then suddenly said, "In that case, can I be counted as one?"

"Of course~" Emilio immediately smiled, "We have had this plan in mind. After all, the money for these mercenaries was also paid by Lord Carl. Don't worry, Lord Carl will definitely get a share of the loot."

The other three also responded to his words and nodded.

Carl nodded and smiled:

"Then thank you very much, the four presidents."

Then he turned back and said to Alia:

"In that case, you can take the rest of the people and go with the four guild leaders."

Alia nodded, then said in a doubtful voice:

"I thought you didn't like this kind of thing?"

Karl just kept smiling. After seeing the four presidents walk out of the hall, he suddenly whispered to the girl:

"I'm really not interested in looting."

"Then what are you doing?"

"I only want you to do one thing." Carl paused for a moment, then continued softly, "All of Aeron's troops are now dead here, and he and all his knights have been captured. I want you to take the remaining people and take over Aeron's barony at this opportunity."

"You want to seize Iren's territory? But the king will not allow you to seize a noble's territory without any reason..."

"He's not a noble." Carl replied calmly.

At this moment, Alia seemed to understand something. She nodded vigorously and then walked out.

Looking at Alia's disappearing back, Carl sat on the lord's throne again, looking at the ceiling in a daze. That's right, Aeron is not a noble. Aeron is just like himself. He is a gangster who was granted the title because he was useful to Morton. He has no big family to rely on, no political influence, and the aristocratic circle does not accept him. He doesn't even have an heir. Once he dies, his territory will become a no-man's land. This is exactly why Carl dared to rob it. He closed his eyes slightly and let out a long breath, then stood up. It was time to send Aeron off. Thinking of this, he strode out of the hall.

In the courtyard of Greyburg, a solemn silence enveloped the air. The courtyard was temporarily transformed into an execution ground, and everyone gathered around a tall guillotine. The morning sun shone on the cold stone, reflecting a faint light, but the expressions of everyone present looked serious and tense.

Selena stood in the middle of the crowd, still wearing armor, with a firm face and heavy eyes. Next to her was the bound Aeron, his hands chained, kneeling on the execution ground. Aeron's face was filled with reluctance and anger, and his eyes were scanning the crowd around him, as if looking for the last ray of hope.

Then he saw Carl walking out of the crowd and walking towards him and Selena.

"What are you doing?" He shouted at him angrily, "I will pay the ransom! Not a single word less!"

After hearing his shout, Karl stopped, stood in front of him, looked at him for a while, and then said softly:

"I'm sorry, Aeron, but this time, there is no ransom. You participated in the murder of Baron Henry, and Greyburg has the right to take revenge on you."

After hearing his words, Aeron immediately shouted:

"I didn't, I didn't know anything about it!"

Carl replied:

"It was your poison that killed Baron Henry. What's your excuse?"

"Yes, it was indeed my poison, but I didn't know that Morton was going to use it to murder Henry. If I knew..." Ellen paused here, then suddenly thought of something and said to Carl, "You should be able to investigate it. I know Aisha is working for you, and you have no shortage of spies in Candlelight Castle! You just need to investigate a little and you will know the truth!"

Facing Iren's defense, Carl just replied coldly:

"Don't make excuses, Aeron. You won't survive today."

"Wait, this time I can pay double, no, triple the ransom!" He continued to raise the price.

But what he got in return was still Carl's cold face:

"You can't pay the ransom, and Alia has taken over your castle and territory under my orders. Now you have nothing."

When he heard this, Ailen was stunned. He stared at Carl blankly, then he seemed to understand something and suddenly shouted:

"I see~ You don't care whether I'm innocent or not, you just want to find an excuse to kill me, that's all!"

By this time, Selena had walked to a small staircase, and facing the gathered crowd, she began to recite aloud the crimes of Iren, her voice filled with grief and anger.

"You know what we have in common? We are not real nobles. Once we fail, no one will care whether we live or die."

Then, Carl turned back to look at Selena, who did not speak again, but nodded towards the execution ground, signaling the executioner to start the execution. Following the girl's signal, Iren's neck was placed under the cold guillotine, and the executioner raised the huge axe, with the sunlight glittering on its blade. After a moment of silence, the axe fell quickly and decisively, and with a muffled sound, Iren's head rolled to the ground. At this last moment, there was no anger in his eyes, only deep sadness and helplessness.

"It's over." Carl patted Selena's shoulder and comforted her softly.

"No, it's not over yet." The girl suddenly said, "There's one more thing."

She turned to Carl, her eyes filled with determination like the hardest ice in winter. Then she took a deep breath and suddenly shouted in a firm and clear voice:

"From today on, Greyburg will no longer serve the Morgan family. From today on, Greyburg will welcome its new master! I, Selena Greyt, the Baron of the Greyven Valley, hereby swear allegiance to Carl Flandal! I am willing to become your vassal and obey your orders! The Greyt family will be loyal to the Flandal family for generations. My lord!"

Then Selena knelt down.

Carl looked at the girl at a loss, then said softly:

"Well, I am only a baron after all, a baron like you. Is this appropriate?"

The girl smiled and replied:

"So what? The kingdom has never stipulated that a baron cannot pledge allegiance to a baron."

Looking at the girl's serious expression, Carl finally nodded.

"I understand." He said, and then shouted to the people behind him, "I accept your oath, Baron Selena Grete, and I will also make my promise. As your lord, I will protect your safety!"

At this moment, thunderous applause and cheers broke out in the courtyard.
