The programmer and his woman

Chapter 19 Software Company

The Technology Building stood tall, and the sunlight shone through the glass curtain wall onto the ground, creating a patchwork of light and shadow. I stood in front of the building, feeling excited because I was about to step into this company I had long admired. I took a deep breath, and with my expectations for the future, I walked firmly towards the glass door that symbolized a new starting point.

I knocked on the door gently and a lady at the front desk came to greet me with a smile. She looked kind and friendly, but what she said next made me feel a little embarrassed.

"Hey, it's a kid. Who are you looking for?" She looked at me with some surprise.

I was slightly startled, thinking that the words used by the receptionist were a bit too direct. I cleared my throat and tried to make my voice sound more mature and steady.

"Hello, I'm here to work. I'm looking for Manager Wang." I responded politely.

The lady at the front desk looked at me with a hint of doubt. She looked me up and down, and seemed a little puzzled by my age and identity. I realized that my dress might not be mature enough, but I tried my best.

"We have two Manager Wangs here. Which one are you looking for?" she asked.

This question caught me off guard, as I didn't know there were two Manager Wangs in this company. I thought about it for a moment and decided to take out the business card that Manager Wang had given me to confirm.

I took out my business card from my pocket and handed it to the receptionist. She took it, looked at it, and then smiled and nodded.

"Oh, okay, wait a moment, I'll call him for you." She said and turned to walk towards the inner office.

I breathed a sigh of relief and secretly thanked myself for bringing my business card.

"Manager Wang, Manager Wang, there's a kid outside looking for you." The voice of the front desk lady echoed in the corridor.

I couldn't help but feel a little dissatisfied when I heard this name. I wondered why the lady at the front desk was so bad at speaking, calling me "kid" all the time. Although I'm not really old, I shouldn't be called that. What's more, I'm about to become an employee of this company, and this name makes me lose face.

"Kid? What kid? Where is he?" Manager Wang asked as he walked. When he saw me, he was stunned for a moment, probably trying to remember who I was, and then he suddenly laughed.

"Oh, it's you. I remember you were the kid who won the first prize in the competition. I remember your last name is Wang too. I remember it." Manager Wang extended his hand enthusiastically to shake my hand. "Are you here to report today? Great! It happens that our department is short of people. It's great that you're here. Come with me."

I breathed a sigh of relief, and the dissatisfaction in my heart was slightly relieved. Following Manager Wang into his office, I saw the receptionist still looking at me with a puzzled look, muttering: "You are really here to work, why is the company still hiring child laborers?"

Hearing this, I smiled helplessly. I thought to myself, this receptionist, can't you just keep your voice down? But forget it, I won't argue with her. After all, she only said that out of curiosity and confusion.

Manager Wang smiled at me and said, "Xiao Wang, I think you are already eighteen years old this year. You wore a suit today, but I knew it was not for you. It is a little too big and doesn't fit you well. Working here, there are no such rules. You can wear whatever you want and whatever is comfortable for you. You see, some of my colleagues are still wearing slippers to work. As long as you are not out on business, you can be more casual in the company and don't feel restrained. If you are tired, you can find a place to lie down for a while. We have reclining chairs in our company.

"We have the habit of taking a nap at noon. You can take a nap on the recliner. There is tea and coffee in the tea room. You can bring a cup with you tomorrow. In addition, our company also provides meals. There will be a special aunt to cook for us at noon. Her cooking skills are very good. You will definitely like it.

"Regarding your salary, your salary is 3,000 yuan, you have two days off on weekends, and your probation period is two months. These are all I can think of for now. Xiao Wang, do you have anything else you want to ask?"

Oh my god! Manager Wang's words were like a bombshell, and I was stunned! Three thousand yuan salary? Meals included? Two days off a week? And such a free working environment? This is so much better than my previous job. I almost wondered if I was dreaming!

Oh, by the way, Manager Wang also reminded me that our company may have to work overtime to catch up with the progress. When I heard that, my heart skipped a beat, but Manager Wang immediately added: "But don't worry, we provide meals for those who work overtime at night, and the overtime salary is twice the usual rate!" When I heard that, my heart instantly burst into flowers. This is simply the rhythm of "working overtime and making money, and eating for free"!

Manager Wang looked at me in amazement and asked with a smile: "Xiao Wang, you look so happy, do you have anything else to ask?" I quickly came to my senses and waved my hands and said: "Oh, no, no, I have been completely conquered by this 'perfect job'!"

Manager Wang asked again: "Are you satisfied with the company?" I was so satisfied that I didn't know what to say. I could only nod and say with a smile: "Satisfied, satisfied, so satisfied that I feel like flying! I want to start working right now, I'm afraid this is all a dream, and when I wake up, everything will be gone!"

Manager Wang looked at me and couldn't help but smile: "Okay, I'll ask the HR department to prepare a contract for you and you can sign it later. Now let me take you to meet your colleagues and then arrange a good workstation for you!"

Come on, colleagues, let me introduce you to a new colleague, Xiao Wang, who is from your application software group. Everyone, give him a warm welcome. "

At this moment, warm applause suddenly broke out in the room, like waves after waves, which made me feel a little shy. I smiled and bowed deeply to everyone to express my gratitude and respect.

"Thank you all for your enthusiasm. I am very honored to be a member of this team. Please take care of me in the future. I will try my best to adapt to the new environment and work together with you." I said sincerely. Although my voice was a little trembling, it was full of determination and expectation.

I looked around and saw my colleagues sitting in groups of three or four. They were all around 30 years old and looked very experienced. I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. No wonder the front desk lady affectionately called me "kid". It seemed that most of the colleagues here were mature and steady "seniors".

"Xiao Wang, you can sit here." Manager Wang pointed to an empty seat and said to me. I nodded, looked at him gratefully, and then walked over and sat down. The seat was spacious and comfortable, making me feel relaxed.

"Then I'll go get busy if there's nothing else." Manager Wang said, and turned to leave. At this time, I noticed a calm and capable woman sitting behind me, who looked very gentle and amiable.

"Oh, by the way, I forgot to introduce her to you." Manager Wang stopped and pointed at the woman. "She is the leader of our team. Her last name is also Wang. If you have any questions or questions in the future, you can ask her for advice."

I immediately stood up, bowed to Team Leader Wang, and said respectfully, "Hello, Team Leader Wang, I look forward to your guidance in the future." She smiled and nodded, expressing her welcome for my joining.

Manager Wang assigned me a workstation in the middle, with two colleagues sitting in front of me. The distance between them was moderate, which not only ensured the independence of work but also facilitated communication. What made me feel even luckier was that behind me was our team leader, a gentle and kind lady.

This team leader is really easy to get along with. Whenever I encounter a problem I don't understand, she always patiently answers it and never spares her time and experience. Her guidance not only helped me quickly familiarize myself with the work process, but also made me feel the warmth and mutual help among the team.

At noon, the team leader warmly invited me to have lunch together. When I walked into the company's restaurant, I was stunned by the rich food in front of me. Not only are there a variety of dishes, but they are also delicious and tasty. Every dish is more delicious than those in restaurants outside. The combination of meat and vegetables is reasonable and nutritionally balanced, which makes people's appetites open. What surprised me even more was that there was fresh fruit after the meal, which was really considerate.

While enjoying the food, I chatted with the team leader. She told me that the company has always attached great importance to the welfare of employees, so not only has it put a lot of effort into the food, but it has also provided various fitness and entertainment facilities so that everyone can fully relax and enjoy themselves after a busy work.

After a day of getting acquainted, I successfully got to know everyone in the group. The oldest colleague was Lao Zhao, who was in his thirties and wore gold-rimmed glasses. Although he was dark and thin, he still looked quite charming. Lao Zhang, who sat in front of me, wore big, thick black-framed glasses. His square face made him look a little dull, but he was very focused on his work.

Behind me was the team leader, Sister Wang, who also wore gold-rimmed glasses, looking elegant and graceful. I noticed an interesting phenomenon: there are indeed many people wearing glasses in the company, and it seems that writing code is indeed very eye-straining.

Manager Wang is affectionately called Lao Wang by everyone, and Sister Wang used to be called Xiao Wang. Now that I have come, Sister Wang has been promoted to Da Wang, and I have taken over the title of Xiao Wang. This change in address has made our relationship closer.

There is also a beautiful older sister sitting at the back, she is Sister Cao, also a member of our group. Sister Cao is the most beautiful in our group, she is very pretty, I think she has the best appearance in the whole company.

Sitting opposite us was also a programming team, but they were a website programming team, which was different from us. They also had four or five people, both men and women, but they were not as good-looking as ours. Now with my joining, our team's appearance could be said to be even better.

But Lao Wang told me that although we have an advantage in appearance, the other party is far better than us in technology. I noticed that Sister Wang showed an unconvinced expression on her face when she heard this. In the afternoon, Lao Wang treated us to a meal and bought each of us a popsicle, allowing us to end the day's work in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.

These days, I sat in front of the computer and carefully studied the program codes written by my colleagues. Sister Wang is very strict about program codes, which gave me a deeper understanding and knowledge. Since I was self-taught in programming before, I did not receive systematic training and was not a professional, so my code style was obviously different from the norms in the team.

Under the guidance of Sister Wang, I gradually understood what "regular code" is. First of all, when naming, you must use English that everyone can understand. If there is no corresponding English word, you must also use pinyin to ensure the readability of the code. The advantage of doing this is that when other colleagues read or maintain the code, they can quickly understand the purpose of each variable, function or class.

Secondly, public content must establish public resources. This means that if a piece of code is reused in multiple places, we should extract it as an independent function or class and call it where needed. Doing so not only improves the maintainability of the code, but also avoids writing the same code repeatedly.

Every piece of code must have complete comments. Comments are an important part of the code, which can help us understand the function, purpose and implementation of the code. By adding comments, we can let other colleagues understand our code faster and modify or expand it when necessary.

I can honestly say that although I can understand the existing code, it does take some time and effort to change some of my bad programming habits. However, I know that these changes are the basic qualities required to become a formal software engineer.

In order to improve my programming skills, I bought an electronic dictionary and used my free time to look up and learn relevant English words to accumulate more vocabulary. When naming variables, functions or classes, I developed a habit of looking up the corresponding English words before naming them. Although this may take some extra time in the early stages, over time, I found that I not only remembered these words, but also gradually formed a more standardized and easy-to-understand code style.

In addition, I also attach great importance to learning from others' programming experience. By reading and understanding the code written by my colleagues, I can learn different programming techniques and styles, as well as their way of thinking when solving problems. These experiences not only help me improve my own programming skills, but also give me a deeper understanding of the process and specifications of software development.

After a period of adaptation and adjustment, my work ability and attitude have been recognized by everyone. I am happy to tell you that I have successfully obtained the consent letter for regularization, which is an important milestone for me and also an affirmation of my past efforts.

As time went by, I gradually gained the trust of the team, and my colleagues began to confidently entrust me with the development of core programs. This was both a challenge and an honor for me. I knew that these core programs were crucial to the success of the project, so I went all out and invested a lot of time and energy.

During this process, I was responsible for implementing a key module. I was fully aware of the importance of this module, so I made sufficient preparations and plans. I studied the project requirements and business logic in depth, and had sufficient communication and discussions with team members to ensure that I could accurately understand and implement the functions of this module.

At the same time, I also began to establish closer ties with other departments of the company. I realized that as software engineers, we should not only focus on our own code and technology, but also understand the company's overall business and strategy. Therefore, I actively communicated with colleagues from other departments to understand their needs and expectations and to find opportunities and possibilities for cooperation.

During this process, I also found that there are many colleagues from other places in the team. They come from all over the world and have different backgrounds and cultures. This made me deeply feel the diversity and inclusiveness of the team. I took the initiative to communicate with them, understand their life and work experiences, and share each other's stories and experiences. This not only made me understand them more deeply, but also made me cherish the time working with them more.
