The programmer and his woman
Chapter 33 Research
I was confused. Aren't we here for the game certification training? However, looking around, I found that although the people in the room came from all over, most of them were not game developers. This surprised me a little. After all, for a game certification training, I thought there would be a group of colleagues who have a deep understanding of game development.
I began to think about the reasons. Perhaps, game education is not limited to game development itself, it also includes game design, game art, game psychology and other aspects. The purpose of this training may be to hope that we can understand games from a broader perspective, not just limited to programming and production.
However, even so, I still have some concerns about this training method. After all, if we don’t even know the most basic game development knowledge, how can we deeply understand and teach games? What’s more, during the training process, we are likely to encounter some problems closely related to game development. If we don’t have relevant background knowledge, we are likely to feel overwhelmed.
I looked out the window, feeling confused and uneasy. I didn't know if the situation in other classrooms was the same as here, but I guess it wouldn't be much different. I began to wonder if I could adapt to this kind of training method, and if I could master enough knowledge and skills in a short period of time to pass the game certification exam.
After entering the classroom, I was shocked by the number of people in front of me. This classroom, which can accommodate hundreds of people, is now full. Students from different cities gathered together to participate in this teacher training. On the stage, a middle-aged male teacher in his thirties was giving us a lecture enthusiastically. His teaching skills are indeed excellent, clear and fascinating.
The teacher stood in front of the podium, his eyes were sharp, and he first said to us in a solemn and deep tone: "Dear students, you are not just students sitting here, but also representatives of your respective cities. Your every move affects the expectations and pride of the people in your hometown. Your learning results will directly affect the outside world's view of our city."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but straighten my back, and a strong sense of responsibility surged in my heart. Yes, I represent not only myself, but also my hometown and my city. This strong sense of mission makes me more determined to study hard and live up to everyone's expectations.
The teacher continued to introduce the importance of the course content in depth. His words were full of love for knowledge and dedication to education. From time to time, he would review the content he had taught before and use questions to guide our thinking. Whenever this happened, my heart would unconsciously tighten, as if being pulled by an invisible thread, for fear that the teacher would call my name.
However, the whole morning passed without the teacher calling on any of us to ask questions. But his teaching method was like an invisible whip, constantly urging me to stay tense and pay full attention. My brain was working fast, constantly absorbing the knowledge the teacher imparted, for fear of missing any details.
Although this learning method made me feel a little tired, the effect was surprisingly good. I found that I could listen to the lectures so attentively that I not only mastered every knowledge point taught by the teacher, but also could draw inferences from it and think about deeper problems. This learning state made me feel satisfied and excited. I deeply thank the teacher for this teaching method. Through these few days of classes, I have learned many teaching skills, which I can also apply in my future teaching work.
At the end of the class, the teacher taught us a unique "teaching trick" in a humorous and practical way. He told us that sometimes during the teaching process, students may ask some unexpected questions, or we may not be able to give accurate answers immediately. Faced with this situation, many teachers may feel embarrassed or uneasy, but the teacher used his wisdom and experience to provide us with a clever way to deal with it.
He first emphasized the importance of affirming students. When students ask a question, we should first praise them for asking a good question. This is not only a recognition of students' thinking ability, but also a way to encourage them to continue asking questions and actively participate in class discussions. Then, the teacher suggested that we could throw the question back to the students and let everyone think about it together, which can not only divert attention but also provide students with an opportunity to think and discuss.
If we still cannot find the answer in this process, we can tell the students that we will leave this question for the next class to explain in detail. In this way, we can leave a suspense for the students and buy time for ourselves to find and organize the information.
Of course, the teacher also emphasized that this method is not a panacea and should not be used frequently. In most cases, we should still try to be fully prepared to ensure that we can answer students' questions. However, when we really encounter questions that we cannot answer immediately, this method can serve as a buffer and transition to help us maintain the fluency and coherence of teaching.
In the next few days of training, we continued to receive the teacher's teachings. The last day was the final exam, which was divided into two parts: lectures and programming. Lectures were required, while programming was optional. Students who had not done game programming could choose not to take the exam.
The lecture was titled "The Importance of Games to People". It sounded great that the teachers before me spoke. They analyzed everything from countries to individuals, from economy, culture, to education.
It is our group's turn soon. Teacher Chen asked, "Teacher Wang, you go first and I go first?" "Teacher Chen and Teacher Gao, you go first, I am not ready yet."
At this time, Teacher Chen began to talk on the stage.
First of all, game development is a highly innovative and technology-driven industry. Learning game development can greatly enhance one's innovation and technical level. In the process of game development, one needs to constantly explore new ideas, solve complex problems, and apply them in practice. This can not only exercise one's thinking and problem-solving abilities, but also enhance one's self-confidence and sense of accomplishment.
Listen to how well Teacher Chen spoke. After he finished speaking, the audience applauded warmly.
The next one was Teacher Gao, who also spoke vividly on the stage.
Game development is an industry with broad employment prospects. With the rapid development of the game industry, the demand for game development talents is also increasing. Mastering game development skills can provide individuals with more employment opportunities and career development space. Whether you enter a game company to engage in game development, or start your own business to develop independent games, you need to have solid game development skills.
Listen to how well Teacher Gao spoke. After he finished speaking, there was another round of warm applause from the audience.
Now I'm going to speak. It's over. I haven't been prepared from the beginning to now. My brain is still blank at this moment. I can't think of what to say no matter how hard I try. But now it's my turn, I have to go on stage and speak.
At this time, my calves were cramping. I had only taught a few classes, and now I had to make up a speech on the spot, and speak to a room full of teachers. I hadn't even thought about what I was going to say, but I was already standing on the stage, so I had no choice but to speak.
Well, games are very important to us, right? Yes, games are very important to us. What should I say next? Oh, by the way, I suddenly remembered the scene of Glasses playing games. There is really nothing to say, so let me just talk about this part.
I walked up to the stage, faced the audience, and began, "Well, today I want to talk to you about the importance of games to people.
"I have a friend who is a game fanatic. Really, he is addicted to the core. One day, he and I were playing a fierce game at his house. We were both completely absorbed in the world of the game. At that decisive moment, he was about to overcome all difficulties and reach the other side of victory."
"Just then, the door banged open and his mother came back. When she saw us playing games, she immediately got anxious and walked over to turn off the computer. My friend was really anxious like an ant on a hot pot. He was just a little bit away from passing the test, so he knelt down and kowtowed, begging his mother to show mercy."
"Can you imagine that scene? A big boy, kneeling on the ground, banging his head, just for a game that has not been saved. His mother was not impressed by his trick and decisively unplugged the power socket."
"My friend was about to cry when he saw the black screen of his computer. He sat there with a look of despair. It was really more sad than if his parents had died. Tell me, how important is this game to him?"
When I said this, the audience burst into laughter. I knew it was not good after I finished speaking. Everyone else applauded enthusiastically after they finished speaking. I was so embarrassed. Even if I asked Teacher Chen and Teacher Gao to go back and not say anything, it would be useless. I had embarrassed myself to the whole country.
At that moment, I seemed to be the focus of everyone's attention, not because of my outstanding performance, but because of my ridiculous speech. The staff at the headquarters were whispering, and I could feel their doubts and curiosity about this "special" visitor. I couldn't help but sigh in my heart, this is really a disgrace to the school, and it also smeared a shame on the whole team.
I looked around, and everyone seemed to be silently laughing at me, which made me feel even more ashamed. I silently apologized to Teacher Chen and Teacher Gao, feeling that I was really a drag. But at this time, the second session began to explain the game program.
I originally thought that more people would come on stage in this session, after all, this is a good opportunity to show their talents. However, to my surprise, the venue was quiet and no one was willing to be the first to go on stage. This silence made me feel a little embarrassed, but at the same time, I was a little relieved. At least in this session, I would no longer be the conspicuous "special".
At this time, a male teacher came to the stage with his laptop computer and plugged in a projector to demonstrate an airplane shooting game. However, there was only one airplane on the screen that could fly left and right. He finished explaining the code in a short while, bowed and left the stage, and there was applause from the audience.
I stood there, watching the male teacher finish his presentation with ease. His confidence and concentration were particularly dazzling under the lights. The applause was like waves, constantly washing every corner of the venue. And I, standing in the audience, suddenly felt an urge, an urge to prove myself.
I looked around and saw that no one else had raised their hands to sign up for the presentation. I glanced down at my new laptop and a surge of courage came over me. Although I had been a little awkward in the previous session, it didn’t mean that I couldn’t find my place in this session.
I took a deep breath, gathered my courage, picked up my laptop, and walked up to the podium. I could feel my heart beating faster, as if it was about to jump out of my chest. But I didn't back down, because I knew this was my chance to prove myself.
When I walked onto the stage, there was a sudden whisper from the audience. I could clearly hear one person's voice, and he shouted loudly: "Hey, it's this stupid boy again." This voice echoed in the venue, making me feel a little embarrassed.
As the familiar sound effects of Super Mario sounded in the venue, the noisy voices in the audience gradually subsided. I realized that this was an opportunity to demonstrate my professional knowledge, so I began to explain the production process of the game in earnest.
I explained in detail how to make sprite frame animations, the design and construction steps of the map, and the design ideas of the bullet list and NPC artificial intelligence. I also specifically mentioned how to implement collision detection in the game, which is an important part of ensuring the smoothness of the game and the player experience.
During the presentation, I was so absorbed that I forgot the passage of time. The audience remained quiet, as if everyone was listening carefully, which gave me more confidence to continue. The venue was still silent until I finished speaking and stepped down from the podium.
I couldn't help but start to feel uneasy. Did I mess up again? I sighed helplessly, thinking that I might not be suitable for this job. However, at this moment, a burst of applause suddenly rang out, followed by a few cheers. This unexpected applause surprised me a little. It seems that my presentation was not as bad as I thought.
I looked around and saw the staff at the headquarters talking to each other again. This time I didn't hear what they were saying, but I could feel their eyes lingering on me for a while. I didn't know what they were talking about, but I was too lazy to pay attention.
With the end of the exam, the one-week teacher training also came to an end. The three of us were busy packing our bags and preparing to go back when Teacher Chen's phone rang. After he answered the phone, he told me that the school had notified me that I needed to stay in City A for a while, and he and Teacher Gao would go back first.
"Why?" I asked in surprise.
"I don't know the specific reason, but this is what City A means. You can go to the headquarters later and they will have someone to make arrangements for you," Teacher Chen explained.
I nodded. Although I was confused and reluctant, I had no choice but to accept the arrangement.
