Chapter 25 Guardian
"Bonnie's friend? But I haven't seen you." The middle-aged woman said with doubt in her tone.
"Heh..." Glenn smiled harmlessly. "My name is Glenn, ma'am. You can ask Bonnie. She should know me."
"Please wait a moment." The middle-aged woman said politely and closed the door.
Glenn waited patiently for a moment, and the door opened again. This time it was the greedy little girl Bonnie who opened the door.
"Mr. Glenn?"
Compared to last time, the little girl was obviously much thinner, and her lively and cheerful spirit was gone, as if she had been ill.
"I heard about you and Leila. I was worried about you, so I came to see..." Glenn paused, "Can I go in and talk?"
"Um... please come in." Bonnie seemed to have just woken up and immediately made way.
Walking into this house which was slightly better than other houses, Glenn took a quick glance at it in order not to appear rude and then looked away.
He put the cloth bag he had been holding on the table and noticed the food on it.
A common staple food in civilian households... This thought flashed through Glenn's mind.
"You guys chat, I'm going to do the laundry." Bonnie's mother knew to give the young people space to talk, so she took the initiative to leave.
Although she knew it was inappropriate to let her daughter stay with a man of similar age, she hoped that this so-called friend could make her daughter feel better.
"Yes, ma'am," Glenn said with a smile.
When Bonnie's mother walked out, Bonnie suddenly felt a little at a loss. After all, she and Glenn had just met, and the other party was a man. It was imaginable how awkward it was to stay in the same space like this.
"Were you scared that day?" Glenn spoke first, making Bonnie, whose face was getting redder and redder, feel better.
She was silent, not knowing how to answer.
But Glenn continued:
"I know roughly what happened that day. I am really sorry that it happened. I am responsible for it. I know it."
"Please don't say that, Mr. Glenn. No one can predict what will happen next." Bonnie heard the self-blame in Glenn's tone and quickly waved her hands.
Glenn smiled noncommittally. It was indeed his responsibility. Others might not know it, but he knew it clearly.
"It's an indisputable fact that you don't look well. Maybe you didn't eat well?" Glenn pointed at the little girl's face.
Bonnie blushed and looked down.
"You're making your mother worried, you know that? I understand that it's not surprising that you'll be traumatized when facing a situation like that for the first time, but please don't let yourself fall into depravity. Isolating yourself like this won't make things better."
Glenn's voice was gentle, like an elder advising a child.
"I know, but..." Bonnie pursed her lips and intertwined her fingers.
"Don't be afraid, Bonnie. There are guardians protecting you."
Glenn said something incomprehensible in the same tone, which made Bonnie stunned.
She looked up in confusion, "Guardian?"
"Yes, Guardian." Glenn and Bonnie looked into each other's eyes, and said calmly and firmly, "Have you forgotten what saved you and Leila that day?"
Bonnie followed Glenn's words and recalled the scene she didn't want to recall that day.
Several burly men dragged her away. She struggled desperately, but to no avail. Just as she was becoming more and more frightened and desperate, the men suddenly let them go with a cry of surprise. They couldn't remember what they were screaming about, but it must have been something that scared them very much.
If what Glenn said was true, those strong men were scared away by the so-called guardians!
"Mr. Glenn, what you mean is..."
"Shh..." Bonnie was about to exclaim, but was interrupted by Glenn with a shushing sound and a mysterious wink at her.
"Oh my God!" Bonnie covered her mouth in surprise, and an inexplicable excitement surged in her heart.
Seeing the little girl get rid of her previous dejection, Glenn was particularly satisfied.
Boys and girls of this age have an unusual desire to explore unknown and mysterious things, which also makes them bolder than adults.
If Glenn said this to a man in his thirties, he would probably be scared to death.
Besides, people all know that there are unnatural phenomena like magic in this world, so it is normal to accept Glenn's fabricated settings.
"Well...well, Mr. Glenn, what exactly is a guardian?" Bonnie clenched her fists in front of her chest and asked Glenn like a spy.
Glenn deliberately glanced around, then leaned close to the little girl and whispered softly, "Actually, the Guardian is a super big dog..."
At this moment, a certain super big dog that was taking a nap moved its nose and suddenly sneezed loudly...
"Super big dog?" Bonnie's eyes widened.
"Yes, it was a big dog as big as a horse, a punishment dog that punished bad guys. It was the dog that had been protecting you on the road that day. When it saw bad guys bullying you, it showed up, and those bad guys were scared out of their wits when they saw it and ran away."
"This...this is really..." Bonnie breathed rapidly, and couldn't find the right words to describe her current mood.
"That's pretty cool, isn't it?" Glenn said as he uttered a new word for her.
"cool?"
"Yeah, cool," Glenn confirmed.
"Yes! It's cool, it's really cool!" Bonnie's face flushed with excitement.
Perhaps because the noise was too loud, Bonnie's mother suddenly opened the door and said, "Bonnie, what's wrong with you..."
Halfway through her words, she suddenly saw a bright smile on her daughter's face.
"Bonnie! You finally smiled! Oh, I thought I'd never see you smile like that again."
As a mother, Bonnie's mother is undoubtedly qualified. Her tears of relief at this moment are enough to explain it all.
"I'm fine, Mom." Bonnie stepped forward and wiped away her mother's tears.
"I know, I know..." Bonnie's mother pushed her daughter, "You guys continue chatting, I still have some clothes to wash."
After saying that, he closed the door, leaving Bonnie and Glenn alone in the room again.
"My mother really cares about me so much, that's why..."
"I was so moved that I cried. I'm really enviable. You must be lucky to have a mother who loves you so much." Glenn exclaimed sincerely.
Bonnie didn't know what to say. She couldn't help but wonder: Did Mr. Glenn say that because he didn't care about his mother? Yes, otherwise he wouldn't live alone in such a remote place. All his relatives must be gone.
Noticing that the other person's eyes suddenly became much gentler when looking at him, as if he knew what the little girl was thinking, Glenn said, "Don't think too much, I'm just expressing my feelings."
Bonnie nodded without commenting, and she turned the topic to the so-called guardians.
"Can I see it? The guardian, I mean, I want to thank it in person."
"Of course, it's near my house. As long as you get close to it, it will protect you in the dark. I can make it show up."
"That's great." Bonnie jumped lightly on the spot excitedly.
Gulu gulu~
A strange sound suddenly floated in the room. Bonnie froze in excitement and her face turned redder, even her ears.
