Chapter 68 Black Crow's Wife
"That's because they are cunning! There are three magicians! They worked together to catch me!"
Gotaya stamped his feet.
Glenn chuckled twice, then suddenly threw a punch, bringing with it a strong gust of wind and stopping in front of the elf girl who hadn't reacted yet.
The wind from the fist messed up the elf girl's hair, and her pupils trembled.
"Let me tell you something. Those three magicians have died in my hands. Also, last night, the mercenary group that appeared nearby was killed by me, including a third-level dark magician."
Glenn patted Gotaya's shoulder, speaking calmly.
After that, the elf girl no longer objected to Glenn's arrangements and listened carefully to everything he said.
Seeing that the other party had remembered everything, Glenn took Ravel on a reindeer cart to the tavern he had bought in Dude Town.
He handed the curly-haired noble a key and said, "Your task today is to review it."
"Audit?"
"Yes, I will put a job advertisement at the door in a while, and those who want to work can come in for an interview, and you will have to choose the right person."
Glenn briefly described his requirements for recruiting people, and said that no one with disabilities, the elderly, or the weak were accepted.
After Ravel seemed to have taken note, Glenn added, "I'll come to see the results of your review tonight. Don't screw it up."
Ravel nodded repeatedly.
Glenn then found a piece of wood of suitable size in the tavern and carved a simple recruitment message on it with a wolf claw.
Feeling that it was not eye-catching enough, he bought some graffiti paint in the town, and only then was he satisfied.
This unique recruitment board quickly attracted the attention of some people, but most of them were children between ten and fifteen years old.
The reason was that there were some cartoons drawn by Glenn on the recruitment board, which really caught the children's attention.
"There are a lot of children in the town today. Is it holiday again?" Glenn looked at the crowd and whispered.
The Kingdom of Zen provides subsidies to families whose children go to school, so any family with a slightly stable financial income will send their children to school.
Glenn praised such policies as wise.
After observing the effects for a while, Glenn walked back into the tavern.
No one had tried to come in yet, and Ravel was waiting with his chin propped up.
"By the way, if anyone causes trouble or something unexpected happens, go to the police station. I'm quite familiar with the sheriff there. Don't act like an aristocrat. You'll deserve a beating if you get beaten."
Glenn warned from the doorway.
"Got it..." Ravel nodded again.
After leaving the tavern and coming to the deer cart, Glenn drove away a few children who were teasing the big deer and was about to get on the cart and leave.
He suddenly smelled a familiar scent.
When he turned around, he found a man and a woman hurriedly turning their backs to him.
Glenn recognized them and stopped what he was doing and walked towards them.
"If you want to go in and take a look, go ahead. I won't interfere."
Glenn's voice came from behind the two of them, shocking them so much that they shuddered.
The two men turned around slowly. They were both wearing simple clothes, with their faces covered tightly, leaving only a pair of eyes exposed.
"Respected Lord Chanis, and Lady Sophia, we meet again." Glenn greeted jokingly.
"How did you... Never mind, it's not important. We just wanted to come and see our son. We definitely didn't mean to offend you."
Lord Chanis's voice hummed, cautiously.
"Yes, yes, we definitely don't mean to cause trouble!" Sophia echoed.
Glenn smiled and said, "I just said, if you want to go in and take a look, go ahead. I won't stop you, but don't cause any trouble. I don't like nobles like you, so my tolerance is limited. Do you understand?"
The two hurriedly waved their hands and shook their heads, saying in unison: "Absolutely not! We swear on our family's honor!"
"Then please do as you please." Glenn turned and left.
The couple looked at each other and saw that the scary civilian had driven away. They no longer hesitated and squeezed into the crowd.
……
After returning home, Glenn explained the situation to Tia and headed deeper into the town carrying the cakes he had bought.
"The smell of Black Crow is very faint. Is it because of the fog?" Glenn was walking this road for the first time and was very curious about the surrounding environment.
As he passed individual buildings, he could see the figures of residents swaying in the windows.
Some stopped to look at Glenn, others just glanced at him casually.
Keep going.
The smell guided Glenn to a quaint blue-gray house.
"The Black Crow lives here? It's really special..."
Muttering to himself, Glenn gently knocked on the mottled wooden door in front of him.
dong dong dong...
crunch--
The door opened, and Black Crow's face appeared behind the door. He said without emotion, "You are here, my friend, please come in."
"Excuse me, this is a gift for visiting."
Glenn handed over the cake box in his hand, and the other party took it with one hand and stepped aside.
Black Crow's home was very shabby. The walls and furniture looked very old. When one stepped on the wooden floor, one could hear the creaking sound from the weight.
A dim chandelier hangs in the middle of the living room, providing the only light to the room.
Glenn walked over to a bench, dusted it off with his hands and sat down.
Black Crow took out a glass cup from somewhere, poured a full cup of wine and handed it to Glenn.
"Thank you." Glenn took the cup, put it in front of the pen and smelled it, then asked, "What kind of wine is this?"
"I bought it in Dude Town to treat you. I don't know what kind of wine it is."
Black Crow answered briefly, and Glenn just hummed and took a small sip.
The taste is as bland as expected, but drinkable.
"I thought you said you had a wife. Is she not here?"
Just as he finished speaking, he heard a slightly old female voice coming from a room:
"Who is it, dear?"
"It's Mr. Glenn. He's here to visit." Black Crow responded in a voice a little higher than usual.
Then he turned to Glenn and said, "My wife is not able to move around the room."
"Oh, I see..." Glenn nodded to show that he understood.
But the female voice in the inner room said again: "It turned out to be him, Mr. Glenn, would you mind coming in so I can see you?"
Glenn looked at Black Crow, who nodded and said, "If it's okay..."
Glenn didn't say much, but motioned for Black Crow to lead the way.
The two of them walked into the room one after the other.
When he saw the appearance of Black Crow's wife, even though Glenn was prepared for any visual shock, his eyelids still jumped.
It was a woman lying on the bed with her body extremely twisted, like the roots of a dead tree.
It was impossible to tell which were the hands and which were the feet because the limbs were tangled together like a ball of thread.
There was a lamp next to the bed, illuminating everything except her face. All that could be seen was that it was a woman with her hair loose.
"I'm sorry to have embarrassed you, dear guest."
The woman's self-deprecating tone brought Glenn back to his senses instantly, and he quickly apologized: "I am sorry, ma'am."
