The Necromancer in the Wizarding World
Chapter 180 Willing to admit defeat
Matthews stepped into Old Ward's Magic Shop and found that the old man was sleeping comfortably on the counter.
He couldn't help wanting to play a trick on the old guy, so he tiptoed up to Old Ward, took out a feather, and was about to scratch his nose.
However, he found that there was a thick book spread out beside Old Ward, and the contents on it were full of strange symbols. This immediately attracted Matthews' attention. He stopped what he was doing, picked up the book, and turned to the cover. It was "Enchantment" - it was actually a book about advanced theoretical knowledge on weapon enchantment.
Matthews couldn't help but flip through it. Even though he couldn't understand the true meaning of what was said in it, it didn't stop him from reading the explanatory narration.
Just as he was absorbed in reading, Old Ward suddenly woke up, snatched the book away, glared at Matthews, and said angrily: "How dare you, little devil, peek at my treasure!"
Matthews, however, looked nonchalant, with a faint smile on his face, and said easily: "Old Ward, you are not awake yet, are you? Now, this book seems to belong to me as well!"
Hearing this, Old Ward seemed to have thought of something, and all his strength seemed to be drained away, and he collapsed limply on the stool.
Seeing Old Ward's look, Matthews couldn't help but chuckle, "Old Ward, don't be like this! At least I won't take a magic stone from you."
However, Old Ward did not feel relieved by this. Instead, he sighed deeply and said, "Knowledge is much more valuable than magic stones. I would rather compensate you with two thousand magic stones!"
Matthews shook his head helplessly. This old guy was too stingy. "You can't afford to lose! Good things should be shared! Do you still want to take in a disciple?"
Old Ward shook his head and said, "How can a half-witted person like me teach an apprentice? I will only make a fool of myself!"
Although Matthews took it for granted, he still hoped that the old man could figure out the key himself. "That's it, you don't want to teach your disciples, and you don't want to share it. Are you going to take it to your coffin?"
Old Ward was still a little unwilling, even though he knew Matthews was right and it was he who proposed the raise. In the final analysis, he was greedy for the other party's witchcraft book. If the other party had placed other bets, he would not have been so resolute and unhesitating at the time. He really regretted it and could only admit defeat now!
"Boy, were you deliberately playing me before?"
Matthews was speechless. Was this old guy trying to cheat again? He wouldn't fall for it.
"Old Ward, you are blaming me wrongly. I had already given up the points battle because of the experimental problem, but you came to provoke me. I really had no choice!"
Old Huade suddenly raised his hands, slapped himself twice, and then said angrily, "I have nothing to say if you admit defeat! Boy, how do you want to learn?"
Matthews laughed and said, "Of course, I will teach you everything I know according to our agreement!"
However, Old Ward shook his head and said, "Although this is indeed what we agreed on before, it is actually not very realistic. You'd better choose to learn some of it, after all, alchemy knowledge is too complicated!"
Matthews thought about it carefully and felt that this was true. It was impossible for him to learn all the alchemy knowledge in a short period of time. Moreover, he would not be able to digest too much. You know, Old Ward had been immersed in it for a lifetime and only reached this level.
So, Matthews thought about it for a while, and then said, "Then I will learn the relevant knowledge about detection magic equipment first!"
Old Ward was completely stumped. Because detection was an auxiliary subject, and the principles of this part of knowledge were the most profound, and he himself didn't quite understand it!
"Matthews, I must tell you in advance that this part of knowledge is very difficult and extremely challenging to learn!" Old Ward said seriously.
However, Matthews seemed unconcerned: "Don't worry, I am confident in my ability to understand!"
As long as he can connect the relevant alchemical and witchcraft knowledge together and fully refer to and combine the advanced scientific theories on Earth, he will have full confidence in creating his own unique witchcraft technology detection equipment.
However, faced with such a situation, Old Ward felt very helpless and finally had to grit his teeth and agree.
Matthews couldn't wait any longer. "Let's start now!"
He didn't want to wait even a second. After all, Nico Bella could start work at any time. If he didn't even know the basics, how could he learn valuable experience? Not to mention learning more advanced skills.
Old Ward looked depressed, thinking that this kid was too impatient: "Hey, kid, first of all, I don't have a memory crystal ball for you to use, so I can only explain it to you while you read the book and study."
Hearing this, Matthews couldn't help but frown. This old guy was really unreliable. He even had to read books by himself. It was obvious that he had no systematic knowledge.
He asked unwillingly: "Don't you even use the crystal ball to record the most basic parts?"
Old Ward was so angry that he shouted, "Of course not! I'm just an apprentice. How can I have a crystal ball of systematic knowledge? If you want to learn, then learn. If you don't want to learn, forget it!"
Matthew was speechless. What the other party said was true, but the old man's attitude was really bad. However, he would not argue with him and continued:
"Old Howard, you should at least list a study charter or a plan, right? That way I know what I need to learn and what I have already learned."
Old Ward nodded in agreement, then took out a few thick books and handed them to Matthews. "Student, feel free to ask me any questions you have. As for the detailed study plan, I still need time to sort it out."
Matthews took the heavy books reluctantly, thinking that this was troublesome and he would have to spend a lot of time reading them.
"Old Ward, why don't you just give me all your study notes and lab notes. That way I can study on my own, and maybe I'll be more efficient!"
Hearing this, Old Ward almost jumped up in anger, puffing his beard and glaring. His study notes and experimental records were his hard work, how could he show them to others casually? Even between a teacher and a student, it was impossible to do this!
"Boy, you're going too far! Forget about the notes!"
Matthews, however, curled his lips slightly, with confidence revealed in his roguery, as if he was sure that he could achieve what he wanted.
"Old Ward, there is so much knowledge in alchemy that if I ask you to explain it to me bit by bit, you won't be able to finish it even if you spend several years. Besides, our time is precious. You definitely don't want to see me staying here every day. That will not only affect your business, but also delay your own alchemy research."
Old Ward was really regretful at this moment, secretly cursing himself for being so foolish. He felt that he had fallen into the trap set by Matthews, and now he couldn't climb out even if he wanted to.
"You can have these things, but we have to agree on a time limit, and they must be returned by then. Also, after I give you the books and notes, you must try your best to study on your own, and don't bother me unless it's absolutely necessary!"
Matthews nodded in agreement. In fact, he didn't want to invest too much time and energy in this area. He just wanted to get a better detection equipment as soon as possible!
"No problem. I can compromise on the time, but the prerequisite is that you must promise to provide me with all the relevant notes, books, and manuals on making witchcraft props that you have."
Old Ward was so angry that he gritted his teeth. This guy was too greedy. "Aren't you afraid of being stuffed to death if you want so much? But if you want all of them, it's fine, but only for one year. After one year, I won't care about you anymore!"
Matthews nodded without hesitation, "It's a deal. You can't have any reservations within a year, otherwise, hmph!"
Old Ward was almost fainted from anger. He angrily took out all his notes, books and leather books, piled them on the counter, and said viciously: "This is all I have! Are you satisfied?"
However, Matthews shook his head. "Old Ward, I have already made the biggest concession, so I hope you will not lose your dignity as an alchemist. Everything else is fine, but you must not keep any auxiliary knowledge to yourself. Even if it is in your head, you must write it all down for me."
Seeing Matthews so determined, Old Ward could only agree. After all, this was the agreement. "Okay, I'll give it to you when I'm done!"
Matthews unceremoniously collected everything on the counter and turned away. He was very dissatisfied with not having the crystal ball of knowledge.
