The Little Lucky Girl

Chapter 8 Food Box

He coughed and asked Ming Youyou, "How were Zheng Huan and the other two last night?"

"They cried for half the night again. When they woke up this morning, their eyes were swollen like walnuts." She sighed in a condescending manner, "I guess they can't eat again today."

"You seem to be eating very well." Magistrate Tao saw that she had finished the plate of shrimp dumplings in front of him, and was still eager to eat his unfinished dumplings.

"Your food is delicious." Ming Youyou chuckled, and then stuffed a small cake into his mouth. "Sir, do you think they will be okay?"

"You should replace 'they' with 'we'." Magistrate Tao said deliberately.

Ming Youyou took a moment to realize what was happening. She immediately felt that the food no longer tasted good and put down her chopsticks in a pout.

"Why scare the child?" Madam Tao glared at her husband. "I heard that Prince Xiao has regained consciousness, and the imperial physician said he is fine. Has there been no final conclusion on this matter yet?"

Magistrate Tao avoided his wife's gaze and said nothing.

Mrs. Tao snorted, got up and went to the inner room.

Ming Youyou was in a bad mood and quietly asked the system: "Do you think we will be beaten with a stick?" She felt that being beaten with a stick was a very severe punishment.

The system said: "It's hard to say about the three of them, but you probably won't."

"Huh? Why?"

The system has been scanning from time to time these days, and occasionally heard the conversation between Magistrate Tao and the master, "According to Dayu's law, you will be imprisoned for a few days at most and fined some money."

Ming Youyou felt relieved. She was already in prison, and if she could be called in for meals every day, she wouldn't mind staying a few more days.

As for money, let your parents worry about it.

Her mood improved, and she realized that Master Tao was still sitting there, so she kindly reminded him, "Master, why don't you go after him?"

She copied her father's experience, "Go now and coax them and they'll be fine; if you don't go, tut tut, you'll be miserable, sir."

Magistrate Tao touched his nose and forced himself to sit for a while. Finally, he got up reluctantly, pushed the shrimp dumplings to Ming Youyou, and quickly went to the inner room.

"Madam, you know this is official business and your husband cannot disclose it casually." Magistrate Tao said stiffly.

"Okay, everyone knows your temper." Mrs. Tao didn't care any more. "Let me ask you, will Zheng Huan really be exiled?"

"Ma'am, why are you......"

"How should I know?" Mrs. Tao sneered, "You follow the rules, but some people don't. Go home and tell your wife, and then your wife will tell a few of her girlfriends, and then everyone will know."

Thinking of those big mouths, Magistrate Tao tried his luck and said, "It's not just Zheng Huan, it's all four children who were exiled together."

Mrs. Tao's eyes widened. "Zheng Huan is fine, but what about the other children? Isn't this nonsense?"

The county magistrate was also helpless: "Your Majesty's decree is probably to use a heavy sentence to show sincerity and to show it to Qi State."

"Our Dayu is so proud that she has to exchange a few children for it." Madam Tao snorted, "Those people in the cabinet don't care? You don't care either?"

"My lady, I am just a small county magistrate. How can I be considered as such?" Magistrate Tao said with a bitter face. "Besides, I have been impeached this time. I guess I can't even be the county magistrate anymore."

Mrs. Tao didn't expect that the anger would also spread to her husband. She slammed the table angrily and said, "What does it have to do with you? They are just taking advantage of the situation."

The county magistrate shook his head. "This happened under my jurisdiction, so it's understandable that I failed in my duty."

Mrs. Tao was silent for a while, then walked over and sat down next to Magistrate Tao, saying softly, "If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. Since you became this crappy county magistrate, you have been so busy every day that you have never had a full night's sleep. That little salary is not enough to buy you supplements.

The couple stopped talking. The atmosphere in the room was a little depressing. The maid who came to report from outside the door hesitated and did not dare to go in.

Mrs. Tao raised her eyes and asked, "What's the matter?"

The maid hurried forward and said, "The housekeeper of Duke Zheng's mansion brought a food box, saying that it was sent to give food to Master Zheng and his family according to the Duke's wife's instructions."

The maid paused, glanced at Magistrate Tao, and continued, "They also said that you, Madam, agreed. Judging from their attitude, they will not leave unless we accept them."

Magistrate Tao frowned, "Did you agree to this?"

"How could that be possible?" Mrs. Tao said disdainfully, "She was just talking to herself. I clearly rejected her, but she pretended not to understand."

"She is quite capable, and has been pretending to be a loving mother for all these years. Whenever Zheng Huan got into trouble in the past, she would cry and protect him from being punished or beaten. We all thought she was soft-hearted and confused, but who knew she was just trying to flatter him."

Magistrate Tao was also very angry. Zheng Huan was about to be exiled, but his stepmother was still not quiet.

Well, let's see what she is going to do. "Bring in the food box," Magistrate Tao ordered.

He thought for a moment and called the maid again, "Please make things difficult for the gatekeeper, but all the silver you dig out will be yours."

The maid agreed happily.

The food box was brought in, and Magistrate Tao carefully checked it. Suddenly, he slammed the lid shut and said, "Go call Chef Zhang and come with me to the prison."

He walked out angrily and saw Ming Youyou leaning on a chair rubbing her belly. He felt a little hurt, so he picked her up and brought her back to the cell.

Ming Youyou felt that Magistrate Tao was a little scary at this moment, so as soon as he returned to the prison, he immediately slipped back to his room, tucked his neck in and was as quiet as a chicken.

Magistrate Tao handed the food box to Zheng Huan and said, "Your mother sent it here."

Zheng Huan was stunned and hesitated to take it.

Feng Xu didn't think too much about it. He took it for Zheng Huan and started to open it.

The food box has three layers, and there are more than a dozen kinds of meals and snacks. The dishes are very good and they are all their favorites.

Lu Tai asked in a low voice: "Sir, is the food poisonous?"

Magistrate Tao shook his head, "I've tested it, it's non-toxic."

Feng Xu felt relieved and said to Zheng Huan: "Maybe your mother has a change of heart."

Zheng Huan still didn't say anything, but his eyes were moved. His stepmother came into the family when he was two years old, and in his heart, he regarded her as his own mother.

Magistrate Tao felt a headache when he saw the innocent looks of the three men. With their brains, it was hard to say whether they could make it to the place of exile.

He asked Zheng Huan: "Which of these dishes do you particularly like?"

Zheng Huan picked out a few plates.

Magistrate Tao continued, "Is there anything among these that you three like to eat?"

Zheng Huan picked out three more dishes, two dishes and a plate of snacks.

Magistrate Tao signaled to Chef Zhang who was accompanying him, "Check it carefully, especially what ingredients are used in it."

There is no idle person in Magistrate Tao's mansion. His chef not only has superb cooking skills, but also has a particularly powerful tongue.

After a while, the cook finished checking the two dishes and said, "Sir, there is nothing extra here. The ingredients used are all those on display."

Zheng Huan and Feng Xu were confused, while Lu Tai seemed to have grasped something, but he didn't quite understand it.

Ming Youyou was far away and couldn't see clearly what was in the food box, so she told the system to take a picture quickly and enlarge the video to take a closer look later.

Checking the dessert was more difficult. The cook tasted the whole piece slowly before replying, "Sir, I have checked it clearly."

Magistrate Tao stopped him from continuing and turned to Zheng Huan and the other two. "Did you figure out anything?"
