In mid-February, the weather in Qianzhong is unpredictable. It was sunny yesterday, but it rained at night. The next day, a cold wind blew, almost making people think that winter had returned.

He family.

When Yang came back with the medicine, she was stopped by the woman next door as soon as she reached the door: "Yun Niang, I heard your daughter-in-law is coughing a lot. I'm afraid she won't live long. You should save your spare money to find a new wife for your son. Don't waste it all on this sickly girl."

"Well, let's talk about it later..." Yang knew that she meant well, and although she didn't show it on her face, she was unhappy in her heart and turned to go into the yard.

Song Huiling heard the noise and wanted to get up to take a look. She accidentally inhaled a breath and her throat felt itchy. She could no longer hold it back, so she clutched the quilt and started coughing violently. This coughing never stopped and her chest was shaking violently. She felt like something was about to be squeezed out of her throat.

At this time, the door was pushed open, and a woman flew into the room, helped her up, and put a square handkerchief to her mouth. Song Huiling retched, then coughed up a mouthful of blood that splashed on the square handkerchief. The coughing stopped, but Song Huiling was so weak that she let the woman hold her in her arms.

Looking around, I found myself in a dim room. The walls were made of stones of different sizes and shapes, with a palm-sized arched window on the top. The door frame made of stones was only half a person's height, and I had to bend over to enter and exit. The roof was built with thin stone slices, and the ground was paved with bluestone. Even the table and benches in the middle of the room were made of stone. The only wooden elements in the whole room were the beams and doors, the bed under me, and a low carved cabinet in the corner with paint peeling off and revealing moldy wood.

Song Huiling's head ached and he felt dizzy. He heard the woman behind him sigh, "Huiling, I know you don't like A-Zhan and that you have someone in your heart, but you are destined to have no future with that person in this life. After all, your body is your own. It's not worth it to risk your life for a man you can't be with!"

The woman's voice was dry and hoarse, as if she had been crying, but her tone was very soft and gentle, "The doctor said that you are suffering from worry. If you don't think about it, it will be useless even if I give you Lingzhi and ginseng every meal!"

Song Huiling remained silent, but her heart skipped a beat. She thought she had been hit by a car and had gone to the underworld...

There was a long silence. The woman had long been accustomed to her daughter-in-law's silence. It was common for her to ignore her for several days in a row. She felt endless sadness in her heart, but she could only suppress it and help the person in her arms lie down.

Song Huiling narrowed her eyes slightly and looked carefully at the woman in front of her. She looked to be in her early forties, of medium to thin build, with dark yellow skin, and bloodshot eyes that were deeply sunken, dull and tired. She had her hair in a flat bun with a silver comb inserted on top of her head. Her wavy hair covered her forehead, making her look beautiful and unique. She wore a dark blue short-sleeved top with a front buttoning and a green embroidered apron around her waist, which looked like a minority costume.

"You take a rest first. I'll go and boil some medicine for you." The woman leaned over and tidied the corners of the quilt for the person on the bed, then turned and left.

Watching the woman's gradually disappearing figure, Song Huiling's heart was beating like thunder, and she began to slowly digest this fact that was hard for her to accept: she had traveled through a book, and was no longer Dr. Song who traveled through the modern tea gardens!

This book is called "The Young Emperor". It is a completely fictional novel based on the historical background of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The main storyline is very simple. It tells the story of the second emperor of the Dayan Dynasty who succeeded to the throne at a young age, expanded the territory, and achieved great achievements for thousands of years.

A plot in the book takes place in Qianzhong, southwest China, and is closely related to Song Huiling.

Qianzhong was an area ruled by barbarians, and was adjacent to the Dian Kingdom, which was ruled by the previous dynasty. In order to control Qianzhong, the founding emperor of Dayan established a garrison in Qianzhong, where soldiers were stationed for a long time, trained during the slack season and cultivated during the busy season, making them self-sufficient. Song Huiling's husband He Zhan was a garrison soldier, and also the biggest villain in this plot.

The He family's ancestral home is in the Qi and Lu area. He Zhan's father was a member of the first generation of the Wei Suo Army. After arriving in Qianzhong, he married a local Miao woman, Yang, who was He Zhan's biological mother. Not long after He Zhan was born, his father died unexpectedly. Yang raised him with great difficulty.

Unlike the love and affection among various ethnic groups in modern times, the ancient Han people looked down on the barbarians. Because he had half Miao blood and his father died early, He Zhan was not liked since childhood and was often bullied by other military children. He gradually developed a tolerant and silent character, but hatred grew in his heart bit by bit. He vowed that one day he would become the superior person and trample all those who bullied him under his feet.

The turning point of He Zhan's life began when he was eighteen years old. According to regulations, at least one person in a military household must join the army. He Zhan was the only male in the He family, so naturally he had to serve. Unlike his mediocre father, He Zhan showed great military talent and strategic courage after joining the army. During a chieftain rebellion, he subdued dozens of the enemy alone.

The southwest was unsettled, but He Zhan believed that he would be able to achieve great things one day, so he did not dare to slack off at all. Even when he had to go to the fields to farm during the busy farming season, he never missed a day of training and devoted himself to the army.

Seeing that He Zhan was already 23 years old and had no intention of showing any affection, Yang began to panic. He was the only son in the He family. If he didn't marry and have children, and if he died on the battlefield, the He family would be extinct. How would she explain to her late husband?

It happened that a wave of exiled prisoners arrived in Qianzhong. According to the Dayan law, young women could be allocated to local unmarried soldiers as wives, but there were few women and many unmarried soldiers. In addition, He Zhan had no intention of getting married. Yang was afraid that her son would give up this opportunity, so she spent some money to smooth over the relationship and picked a first-class-looking woman for He Zhan. However, this woman was short-lived. She died of illness less than a month after marrying He Zhan. After that, He Zhan never remarried.

When he was 25 years old, the emperor personally led an expedition to the southwest to eliminate the remnants of the previous dynasty in one fell swoop. He Zhan made the greatest contribution in this battle and was promoted to the commander-in-chief of Qianzhong, in charge of the Qianzhong military power.

With power, He Zhan began to crazily kill those who had bullied him. He would find any excuse to dismember, cut into pieces, or cook them alive... His methods were so cruel that they were shocking. Several junior generals who had offended him with words were afraid of being retaliated against, so they jointly wrote a letter to the emperor, slandering He Zhan for having rebellious intentions.

The emperor ordered people to investigate secretly, and after learning the truth, he only called He Zhan to the capital to give him a lecture. It was out of concern, but the gradually inflated He Zhan regarded it as a kind of control. He began to be dissatisfied with being controlled by the emperor in everything, and really became disloyal. After returning to Qianzhong, he continued to take action, separatist and became a local emperor, even beheading officials who came to envoy, and refused to surrender to the court.

The final outcome was that the emperor sent a large army to forcibly suppress Qianzhong, but He Zhan was unwilling to be captured, so he set himself on fire before the army broke through the city gate and ended his life.

And she, Song Huiling, is He Zhan’s short-lived wife!

There was a dull pain in her chest, as if being crushed by a thousand-pound stone. The pain was so severe that Song Huiling shed two lines of natural tears. She was afraid that her chest would be pulled and she would cough violently again, so she did not dare to cry out loud, not even to hum. She just closed her eyes silently and bit her lips tightly.

She was devastated. This body had already been terminally ill. The point of her traveling through the book couldn't be to experience death again, right?
