"What's going on?"

Seeing that something was not right, the brothers around them hurriedly stood between the two men, "Lao Liang, Zhang Ming, what are you doing? You were just talking to each other, why did you turn hostile?"

The two roommates were holding Zhang Ming, but they couldn't stop him. Zhang Ming took a few steps forward and yelled at Liang Mancang, "I just scolded you, so what?"

He stared at Liang Mancang's fist, wishing that it would hit his face in the next second.

Liang Mancang was furious and rushed towards Zhang Ming, "You're asking for a beating."

Zhang Ming was not to be outdone and went forward to meet him.

Their shoulders collided hard.

The next second, he was pulled away by other roommates. "You two are crazy and you even started fighting. Do you want to be punished?"

Several roommates split into two groups. One group pushed Liang Mancang out of the dormitory and said, "Lao Liang, aren't you going to the group leader's house for dinner? Go quickly and don't be late."

Someone restrained Zhang Ming and scolded him, "Zhang Ming, you've been acting crazy these past two days, like a mad dog, biting whoever you catch."

"Liang Mancang has provoked you."

Liang Mancang was no longer visible, so Zhang Ming shook off the crowd, squatted on the ground, picked up the toothpaste barrel, toothbrush, towel and other things scattered on the ground and put them in the washbasin, then stood up.

Someone pushed him and asked, "What's wrong with you?"

Zhang Ming held the wash basin and said, "It's okay."

Liang Mancang walked while breathing slowly. When he arrived at Li's house, he had almost adjusted his state and pushed the door open and walked in.

An Xi was serving dishes to the table. When she saw him, she said, "Brother Liang, you're here."

Liang Mancang looked at An Xi's gentle face and thought of the nonsense that Zhang Ming had said. He thought that he would find an opportunity to make everything clear. He did not want to marry An Xi because of Captain Li. There was no need for those additional conditions. An Xi was already the kind of wife that he, Liang Mancang, wanted.

While he was thinking, An Xi called him again, "Brother Liang, come and sit down."

"Ah good."

Liang Mancang greeted Jiang Tingxia and Li Changpu in the room and sat down.

Li Changpu found a bottle of white wine in the cabinet and put it on the table, "Mancang, let's drink together."

Liang Mancang smiled and said, "Okay."

Jiang Tingxia, who was serving dishes, frowned when she heard this. She didn't like men smelling of cigarettes and alcohol, but she said nothing. She still had to save some face for Li Changpu in front of outsiders.

But Li Changpu took out another cigarette box and handed Liang Mancang a cigarette. Jiang Tingxia could not sit still. When he drank, the alcohol went into his stomach, but smoking was different. They inhaled so much smoke that she suffered as well.

She placed a plate of fried bacon directly on Li Changpu's cigarette box and said, "The meal is ready, you guys should eat some food first."

Then he pretended that the cigarette box was in the way and moved it aside.

Jiang Tingxia waved her hand again, "The cooking fumes are quite choking."

After hearing this, Li Changpu reacted, and the hand holding the cigarette paused, then put the cigarette aside, stood up, picked up the wine bottle and poured a cup of wine for Liang Mancang who was about to light the fire, "Come, try this wine."

Liang Mancang quickly held the wine glass with both hands and put aside the matter of lighting a cigarette.

The two men raised their glasses. Li Changpu took a sip of the white wine, then asked Liang Mancang to sit down. He then said to Jiang Tingxia and the others, "Come and sit down, and have your meal."

Jiang Tingxia sat down next to Li Changpu, and An Qian sat next to her. After all, she and Liang Mancang were not officially married, so they still had to keep their distance.

Jiang Tingxia put a crystal steamed dumpling with vegetarian filling into Li Changpu's bowl and said, "Eat something before you drink."

Li Changpu picked it up with chopsticks and praised, "This dumpling is beautifully made."

Jiang Tingxia smiled, "It's just like ordinary dumplings, with the skin made of starch."

Then he said to Liang Mancang, "An Xi and I made this together."

"Try it too."

Liang Mancang also picked one up and ate it.

Li Changpu looked at Liang Mancang, then at An Qian, and thought of Zhang Ming. He felt helpless and hoped that he could be more open-minded.

Li Changpu said, "The marriage report has been approved. What are your plans next?"

When Liang Mancang heard that the marriage report had been approved, he smiled and said, "I plan to take Anxi to my hometown commune to get a marriage certificate and hold the wedding there."

He looked at An Xi, "How about it? Is it okay?"

Anxi nodded.

Liang Mancang smiled and said, "An Xi's travel permit will only be available for a few days."

"Well, I'll ask for leave tomorrow, and the sooner we get back the better."

This was settled. After they had finished their meal, Liang Mancang left first. Li Changpu stayed for a while and wanted to go back to the dormitory. Jiang Tingxia went out to see him off.

Everyone went to bed early and there were not many people on the streets at night. Li Changpu was itching to get close to Jiang Tingxia's face, but she pushed him away with disgust.

"What's wrong? I don't smoke, and I'm not allowed to touch it."

Jiang Tingxia frowned and dodged, "You smell like alcohol, so bad."

Li Changpu tilted his head and sniffed the clothes on his shoulders, "I just drank two sips."

He asked, "Does it smell?"

Jiang Tingxia nodded frantically, but Li Changpu pulled her into his arms and bit her on the mouth twice.

He was still a little drunk, so his words were not as serious as usual. "Don't complain about that. I'm your man, you can't despise me."

"puff."

Jiang Tingxia spit on his face and cursed, "Shameless."

Li Changpu closed his eyes, then let her go and said with a smile, "I'm going back."

"You go in, too."

Jiang Tingxia warned, "You smell like alcohol, remember to wash up before going to bed."

Li Changpu looked shameless, "Don't bother me, I'm just going to sleep in this stinky bed today. Anyway, I have a bed all to myself and no one will dislike me."

There was some resentment in his tone, as if he was alone and unable to sleep.

Jiang Tingxia turned around and walked away, "Who cares? Just let it stink. I promise it will be marinated well tomorrow."

……

Zhang Ming entered the dormitory, and Guo Biao threw him a candy wrapped in red plastic, "Here."

Zhang Ming took it and asked, "Why are you giving me candy?"

Guo Biao bit a candy in his mouth and said, "I didn't give it to you. It was a wedding candy given by Liang Mancang."

Zhang Ming's hand holding the candy froze in place, and without thinking, he threw the candy onto the table. The hard fruit candy hit the wooden table, making a sound.

In fact, he heard yesterday that their marriage report had been approved.

Seeing him like this, Guo Biao threw another candy at him and said, "Don't be so boring."

"How can a grown man be so petty? We just had a few arguments yesterday. After all, it's someone else's wedding. What's wrong with eating some candy?"

"Are we brothers now?"

Zhang Ming sat on the bed, his voice relatively calm, "The wedding candies have all been distributed."

"You didn't say when you're getting married?"

Guo Biao thought for a moment and said, "He said he wanted to go back to his hometown to get the marriage certificate."

"I just distributed the wedding candies and left."

Zhang Ming looked normal and asked, "Are you not going to have a banquet?"

"Who knows? I guess the wedding will be held directly in my hometown."

Someone said, "That's right. Liang Mancang doesn't have the qualifications to have his family accompany him in the army. I guess his wife will just stay in his hometown when he returns this time."

"Then how do we pay our share?"

"No way. Isn't his wife the sister of the regiment commander's wife? She will probably have to come back. It's okay if she can't join the army. She can live in a nearby village and still interact with her sister. Otherwise, why would the girl marry him? Isn't it just to be closer to her sister?"

"Why should we worry about this? We'll just see how Liang Mancang arranges it. If we want to have a wedding here, we'll just go. If we want to have a wedding in his hometown, we can just give the money to him directly."

Zhang Ming's mind was like a tangled mess of hemp ropes, with no clear idea in mind. He asked, "Did they leave? Did they go to the station?"

Someone answered, "When Liang Mancang left, he said he was going to the regiment leader's house to pick up his girlfriend and then take the train."

Zhang Ming didn't know what he was talking about, but he was curious, so he asked again, "Just left?"

"It wasn't long since I left."

Zhang Ming felt that the room was very cramped, so he stood up and walked outside for a few steps. The cold wind made him feel much more awake.

When he left, he somehow took the candy on the bed.

He held the red wedding candy in his hand and looked at it again and again. Finally, he let go, put the candy in his pocket, looked up at the foggy sky, and suddenly felt that everything was bland and tasteless.

"How boring." he cursed.
