Chapter 224 What problems did you encounter?
"Okay, come in and sit down. Have some tea. I have some freshly brewed Longjing tea here." Professor Zhang led them into the living room and poured tea for them personally.
"Professor, we have recently been investigating some things about the history of our hometown and have discovered a lot of hidden clues." Ran Qiuye said straight to the point.
Professor Zhang nodded and said, "Go ahead and talk. I'm listening."
Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye told them everything about their discoveries and questions. Professor Zhang was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "What you have discovered is indeed a secret in the history of our hometown."
"Professor, do you know these things?" Ran Qiuye asked.
Professor Zhang sighed, "I know some, but not all. Many years ago, I also tried to study these things, but later gave up for some reasons."
"What's the reason?" Xu Mingjie asked.
"Because these things involve some very complicated backgrounds and characters, I can't find out the details by myself, and I dare not go deeper." Professor Zhang's eyes revealed a hint of helplessness.
"Then what should we do?" Ran Qiuye was a little anxious.
"You've come a long way. Keep going, but be careful," Professor Zhang encouraged.
Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye nodded and decided to continue their investigation. They knew that although the road ahead was difficult, they could no longer turn back and the truth must be revealed.
After leaving Professor Zhang's house, Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye decided to go back and sort out their thoughts to see what to do next. On the way, they passed an old neighborhood, which used to be the most prosperous place in their hometown, but now it looks a bit run-down.
"Qiuye, look here, these old buildings may hide more secrets." Xu Mingjie stopped and pointed at the block.
"Yes, maybe we can find some clues here." Ran Qiuye nodded.
The two decided to go back first and come back here to investigate the next day. After returning home, Xu Mingjie turned on the computer and began to organize the information they had collected. Ran Qiuye was flipping through those ancient books, trying to find more clues.
"Mingjie, here is an old map with many places marked on it that we didn't notice before." Ran Qiuye suddenly said with surprise.
"Let me see." Xu Mingjie leaned over and looked at the yellowed map, a hint of excitement flashing in his eyes, "These may be the places we need to investigate."
The next morning, Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye came to the old neighborhood with a map. They walked and compared the map and found some marks hidden in the old buildings.
"Here, there is a secret door here." Ran Qiuye said, pointing to an inconspicuous corner of the wall.
Xu Mingjie walked over and felt the wall with his hands, and indeed found a loose brick. He carefully removed the brick, revealing a small secret door.
"Let's go in and take a look." Xu Mingjie pushed the secret door open with force, revealing a narrow passage inside.
The passage was very dark, and the air was filled with a musty smell. They turned on their flashlights and walked in carefully. At the end of the passage was a small room filled with various ancient objects and documents.
"These things look very important." Ran Qiuye flipped through the documents, excitement gleaming in his eyes.
"Yes, we need to check these things carefully." Xu Mingjie nodded in agreement.
After several hours of hard work in the cabin, they finally sorted out some important clues, which revealed some unknown secrets in the history of their hometown and mentioned the names of some important people.
"We have never heard of these names before. Maybe they are the key." Ran Qiuye said, pointing to the names in the document.
"Yes, we need to find the descendants of these people and see if they know more." Xu Mingjie thought.
In the next few days, Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye began to look for the descendants of those important people. They visited many places, asked many people, and finally found the grandson of one of them.
The old man was about 60 years old and lived in a farmhouse outside the town. When he heard about their purpose, he invited them into the house.
"Are you here to investigate the history of our family?" the old man asked with a hint of doubt in his eyes.
"Yes, we found some information about your grandfather and would like to know more." Xu Mingjie replied politely.
The old man sighed, "My grandfather's affairs are complicated, and he has been protecting some secrets all his life."
"Do you know what those secrets are?" Ran Qiuye asked.
The old man nodded. "I know some, but not all. I only know that my grandfather once mentioned an important place. That is the secret of our family."
"Where is that place?" Xu Mingjie asked anxiously.
The old man was silent for a moment, then he said, "That place is on the other side of the mountain, in a very hidden valley. I can take you there."
The next morning, the old man brought Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye to the valley. Deep in the valley, there was indeed a hidden entrance. The old man pointed to the entrance and said, "This is the place my grandfather mentioned."
Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye thanked the old man gratefully, and then walked into the hidden entrance. Behind the entrance was a huge underground cave filled with various ancient artifacts and books.
“These are things our family has protected for many years,” the old man explained as he followed them.
Xu Mingjie and Ran Qiuye carefully examined the cave and found a lot of materials they had never seen before, which revealed some deeper secrets of their hometown's history.
"These materials are too important, we must protect them well," said Ran Qiuye.
Xu Mingjie stood at the door of Ran Qiuye's house, his heart full of hesitation. He looked at the closed door, hesitating whether to knock. The moonlight fell on his shoulders, and his shadow on the ground seemed particularly quiet. He took a deep breath, raised his hand, but put it down again. Ran Qiuye's recent state made him very worried. She was already worried about this matter, and he couldn't bear to disturb her again.
Finally, Xu Mingjie decided to go back and come back to see her tomorrow. He turned and walked towards the parking lot, thinking about the clues and information they had found. When he walked to the front of the car, he suddenly heard light footsteps behind him. He turned around and saw that it was Ran Qiuye.
"Mingjie, is that you?" Ran Qiuye's voice sounded particularly clear in the night.
"Qiu Ye, I'm sorry, I don't want to disturb you so late." Xu Mingjie said apologetically.
"It's okay, I was just wondering if you would come. Come in, we still have a lot to discuss." Ran Qiuye sighed softly and turned to walk towards the door.
