Siheyuan Shangpeng
Chapter 531 The Future of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Wang Lei followed Shang Peng to his small yard. Shang Peng took out a package from the car outside the yard and threw it directly to Wang Lei. Wang Lei looked at Shang Peng and said, "No, you just put it in the car. Aren't you afraid that someone will take it away?"
Shang Peng looked at Wang Lei and said, "There's only one family in this alley behind that has their door open. I know them. If someone comes and takes it away, I'll beat you up and your family won't have any left. Okay? Go back now and don't disturb my rest."
Wang Lei held the package without moving, and asked Shang Peng: "No, Xiaopeng, you gave me the things, please tell me the truth, who gave it to you? What is it for?"
Shang Peng thought for a moment and replied, "It was given to me by the guy who wrote the barefoot doctor manual. I haven't opened it or read anything. It's been several days since I got it, but I've been busy. I just forgot about it."
Wang Lei gave Shang Peng a thumbs up, said nothing, and ran towards Shang Qi's house with the package.
Wang Lei went straight to his father's room. Seeing Wang Lei's panic, his father frowned and scolded him, "Why are you so flustered? A doctor should be steady. If the patients see you like this, what will they think?"
Wang Lei looked at his father aggrievedly and said, "That man gave Shang Peng something again!"
When Wang's father heard this, he hadn't reacted yet and couldn't help asking, "That person?"
"It's the guy who read the barefoot doctor's manual!" Wang Lei replied.
Upon hearing this, Wang's father jumped up, snatched the package from Wang Lei's hand, and placed it on the table like a treasure. As he opened it, he complained to Wang Lei, "The master sent something, why don't you take it out quickly? You are still chatting with me here!"
Wang Lei's expression became even more bitter, and he muttered quietly: "I don't know who told me to be more cautious."
Wang's father no longer paid any attention to Wang Lei, so he didn't hear what he said. Instead, he opened the bag and looked at the things inside without blinking.
There was a book, a piece of paper and three small bottles in the package. Father Wang picked up the paper first. It said in the book that this person had discovered a method to synthesize traditional Chinese medicine into Chinese patent medicine. There were already some methods in the book, and the rest needed to be improved by domestic Chinese medicine experts.
The three small bottles contain two selected Chinese medicine prescriptions. One is the thousand-year-old famous prescription Xiao Chaihu Decoction, which originated from the Treatise on Febrile Diseases by Zhang Zhongjing, the medical saint of the Han Dynasty. It contains "half a pound of bupleurum, three ounces of scutellaria, three ounces of ginseng, half a liter of pinellia, three ounces of roasted licorice, three ounces of ginger, and twelve jujubes". Xiao Chaihu Decoction has been continued and developed for two thousand years. The prescription has been reduced and added many times. In later generations, a stable ratio has been made, and the therapeutic effect has evolved to be stronger. It is mainly used to treat exogenous pathogenic factors invading Shaoyang syndrome, with symptoms including alternating cold and heat, bitter fullness in the chest and ribs, loss of appetite, irritability and nausea, bitter mouth and dry throat, etc. In short, it can mainly treat colds, influenza, and diarrhea, and has a very good effect.
Another one is also a traditional prescription. The Pueraria lobata tablets, which were fully improved in later generations, can clear away heat and detoxify, and have anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. They can treat acute pharyngitis, tonsillitis, folliculitis, and mumps. In later clinical trials, the anti-inflammatory effect was 70 to 80 percent, which is a blessing from heaven for the country today.
Of the two prescriptions, Xiao Chaihu Decoction is made into pills. Pills are made by processing and preparing the drugs, mixing them according to the prescription, grinding them into fine powder and mixing them evenly, and then shaping them with honey, water or batter, medicinal juice, etc.
Putilan anti-inflammatory tablets are in tablet form and follow the same process as above, but the final tablets are pressed out using a press.
Both pills and tablets have the advantages of long-lasting efficacy, easy to take, easy to store, and masking bad odor. The disadvantage is that they cannot be used for one person at a time, and the dosage cannot be increased or decreased according to each person's severity and physical condition.
The remaining bottle is the improved Yunnan Baiyao, which is slightly stronger than the old Baiyao in treating external injuries. As to how much stronger it is, we have to wait for them to conduct their own experiments.
These three recipes can be mass-produced by machines. The methods are already written in the book. As for the machines? Just leave it to Shang Peng. He believes that Shang Peng can make it.
Father Wang's hands were shaking with excitement as he looked at the paper in his hand. Wang Lei immediately supported Father Wang and gave him some water to drink.
After drinking the water and taking two breaths, Wang's father finally recovered. He looked at Wang Lei and said, "There is a way out for Chinese medicine. Haha... I wonder who will say that we Chinese medicine practitioners can only provide one-on-one treatment. We can also... woo woo..." Before he finished speaking, Wang's father started crying.
Wang's father and his generation were the ones who were most affected by the integration of Chinese and Western medicine. Chinese medicine was too slow to show results. Here I mean people. A qualified Chinese medicine practitioner needs at least ten years of study before he can be said to be able to diagnose a pulse. As for being a master? Some people dare not admit that they have become masters in their entire lives.
What about Western medicine? In three years, you can see simple patients, and in five years, you can become a famous doctor. What kind of illness can be cured quickly by Western medicine? They are both studying medicine, but they become attending physicians in five years, while Chinese medicine practitioners are still studying medical books. Who would still be willing to study Chinese medicine?
So now there is a theory in society that traditional Chinese medicine is useless. Wang's father has been worried that one day in the future, after this group of people die, traditional Chinese medicine will completely fall into decline.
The barefoot doctor manual mentioned above can only be said to have extended the life of traditional Chinese medicine in the short term. Wang's father also realized that Western medicine will become more and more powerful in the future. If this continues, traditional Chinese medicine may disappear in the future.
Wang Lei felt the same way. Those around him who studied Western medicine quickly improved their levels, and he himself had thought about switching to Western medicine, but when he saw the medical books in his hands, he gritted his teeth and persevered.
After a while, Wang's father finally stopped crying and said to Wang Lei, "Let's go and take the things to find the leaders. This time I must find a Chinese medicine expert across the country to make a name for Chinese medicine."
Wang Lei grabbed his father and said, "Dad, don't you see what time it is now? If you don't take a rest, the leader should pay attention. Besides, you went to see the leader without even reading the content. What are you going to say there?"
Father Wang calmed down after Wang Lei's persuasion and nodded. He said to Wang Lei, "You are right. I am too anxious. So, I will study late into the night. We will go to the leader tomorrow morning. This must be done sooner. I can't wait to try this method."
After saying this, he didn't give Wang Lei a chance to object and just picked up the book and started reading. Wang Lei didn't object and followed his father and started reading.
The two of them exclaimed in admiration when they saw the exquisite details. In the middle of the night, Queen Mother discovered that the light was still on in King's father's room, so she couldn't help but go over to take a look. She found that the father and son were staring at a book together. Queen Mother knew the habits of the father and son very well, so there was nothing she could do. She could only shake her head and go back to the room to sleep.
