Be in low spirits

Chapter 145 The Memory of Fish

"No need, I'm just on secondment and will be back to the police station soon, and my phone is out of battery." She took out her phone and pressed the power button a few times to prove to him that she was telling the truth.

Her rejection was always so direct, no wonder the team members said she was aloof. He smiled and let her go. Looking at the hand that had just grabbed her, he felt as if something was connected.

Kong Zhixi was sitting on the bus, thinking about the man just now. He felt a little strange. He called her Xixi when they just met, and he also knew her father, but she actually forgot to ask his name. If her father really asked, she would know who leaked the news.

Later, Qian Ke always gave her a note asking her to go to the captain's office to get the file. Only then did she know that the person who stopped her that night was the captain of the Criminal Investigation Brigade, named Li Li.

After finding out who he was, she caught him in the cafeteria, wanting to confirm once again whether he had revealed the information to the two cops at home.

Seeing her coming, he thought that the case file had not been returned. "I haven't finished reading the case file yet. You don't have to keep urging me to return it." These past few days, he had become somewhat of a conditioned reflex because of her urging.

"I know, I just want to ask if you told my dad and sister?" She put the lunch box in front of him and sat down to eat.

"Don't worry, I keep my word." Seeing her sit down, he was a little at a loss. According to his observation, she was indeed very indifferent to the people in the team and didn't want to talk to them much. But now she took the initiative to sit in front of him, which was really rare.

This meal was the most relaxing one he had had since he joined the police force. Looking at her eating, he was not sure whether she had a good appetite or the cafeteria had really become more delicious. "Is the food in the cafeteria delicious?"

"Well, it's not delicious, but I have a lot of work to do in the afternoon, so I have to eat something." She still lowered her head to eat, never looking up at him.

Xiao Liu, the new member of the criminal investigation team, sat next to her without knowing what was going on, and discussed this morning's case with Li Li. He kicked him under the table, trying to shut him up. Liu Yanjun didn't understand, but Kong Zhixi did.

"I'm full, you guys chat slowly." She took the lunch box and left. Li Li looked at Liu Yanjun, speechless, and some part of his body began to ache again.

After get off work in the evening, she stood at the gate of the Criminal Investigation Brigade. It started to rain and she didn't bring an umbrella. Looking at the people leaving behind her one after another, she could only stand aside and wait for the rain to stop. If she was at the police station, she should be on duty. She didn't know how the police station would arrange her after she returned.

Li Li looked at the information on the whiteboard in the lobby office and called Director Fei to ask him to find out about the victim. Director Fei was still in the station, so he decided to go to the Jiangyin Road Police Station. When he walked out of the brigade gate, he saw Kong Zhixi standing in the corner of the gate. He walked up to her and asked, "Xixi?"

She was originally looking up at the sky, but when she heard the voice, she lowered her head and said "Oh" in an unpleasant tone.

"Where are you going? Let me take you there." From the way she looked, I could tell she didn't bring an umbrella. Summer rain comes fast and heavy. Even with an umbrella, she would still get wet.

"It's not on the way." Because of the name Xixi, she always felt that the captain was a little self-righteous.

He smiled. He knew it was not on the way even though he didn't say where he was going. "If you didn't say where you were going, how do you know if it's on the way?"

"I'm afraid to trouble you." She thought the thunderstorm would stop soon.

"Let's go. The rain won't stop soon. Don't you bring an umbrella? I have nothing to do right now." He took out his cell phone and changed the time with Fei Suo.

"Cuiyuan, do you know?"

"I know. Let's go." He took out an umbrella from the frame at the door and held it for her.

Not sure if it was because of the rain or the person sitting in the passenger seat, but there seemed to be a sweet smell in the air. He searched around to find the source, sniffed around, and said sheepishly, "Did you... put on perfume?"

Kong Zhixi grabbed her bag, fastened her seat belt, raised her arm and sniffed. What perfume do you wear on weekdays? "No, is there any smell?" She sniffed again, only the smell of a wallet in the car.

"No." Every time he saw her, he seemed to have some strange reactions. "Is the work in the archives boring?" Every day when he saw her, she seemed to be in a bad mood.

"No, Director Fei asked me to come here to exercise my character." He was really bored, but the person sitting next to him was a leader after all, so he couldn't talk nonsense.

"I haven't seen you in the police station before. Did you just pass the exam?" Although I have already checked, I still have to ask as usual.

"He was seconded here after only working in the police station for a few months. He should be considered in the same batch as Xiao Liu in your office." She complained to her sister on the phone about the hard work.

"My phone has battery this time, can I add you on WeChat?" I wanted to see how she could refuse, although I really wanted to add her on WeChat.

She didn't refuse, but looked up at his phone, looking embarrassed. "It's not that I don't want to add him, but I'm not a talkative person."

He smiled, "No wonder they say you are aloof."

She remained silent and played games on her phone. He continued, "You and Kong Suo have a bad relationship?"

"It's not very good." She didn't intend to say the reason, but just continued with the conversation.

"I noticed it when I went to your house for dinner before. But how could there be any overnight hatred between father and daughter?" He seemed to talk a little too much tonight.

"Yeah." She didn't intend to continue chatting with him and ended the topic with just one word.

Li Li did not continue, just driving. When they arrived, Kong Zhixi thanked him and got out of the car. He handed her an umbrella, but she had already gotten out of the car, walked through the rainy road, and entered the corridor. He felt a little embarrassed, holding the umbrella in the air, and the sweetness in the air disappeared with her disappearance. "Am I so annoying?" He muttered in the car and put away the umbrella.

After that, the two rarely met and their days went by in an ordinary way.

At the end of the month, Kong Zhixi sent a WeChat message to her mother saying she was going home for dinner. A woman passing by the office corridor stopped her and asked, "Little girl, do you know where Li Li is?"

To be precise, the one holding her was not an auntie, but a noblewoman. She was wearing a purple slim-fitting dress, had fair skin, and her hair was well-groomed. "Auntie, who are you?" She looked behind her, and there was no one following her. Was it so easy to get into the Criminal Police Brigade?

"I'm his mother. I'm here to bring him food. Can you help me call him?" It was indeed inconvenient for her as she was carrying things in both hands.

"Let me take you to their office to put your things first." She led the person to the criminal investigation office, asked her to put the things on the table, called Li Li to explain the situation, handed the person to Xiao Zhao, and prepared to go back to the archives room.

Li's mother held her and asked her all sorts of questions, refusing to let her go. "Little girl, what's your name? How old are you? Are you married? Where are you from? Thank you so much for what you did just now. Why haven't I seen you before? Are you new here?"

She looked at Xiao Zhao and let out a long sigh. This meant that she had chosen her and was going to choose a wife for her son. "Auntie, I have a lot of things to do. I'll be busy first. Xiao Zhao, you can talk to your boss later."

He pried her hands apart, winked at Xiao Zhao, and quickly ran away. In the corridor, he bumped into Li Li who had just returned to the team. He helped him up and apologized: "I'm sorry, are you okay?"

She held her forehead. Is this person a solid wall? He hurts people. "Tsk, watch out."

"Sorry, my mother is here and I'm anxious to persuade her to go back." He lowered his head, trying to see where he bumped into.

"Go quickly, she should have arranged the wedding date for you soon." She waved her hand impatiently, telling him to leave quickly.

"Let me see, are you hurt?" Every time he saw her, his body seemed to get a rest and he felt more relaxed than ever before.

"Oh, it's okay, how can it not hurt!" She raised her head and saw a red spot on her forehead. "You are sick!" She returned to the archives room impatiently.

When she got home in the evening, she lay on the sofa, fanning herself with her round fan, while her mother picked vegetables beside her and watched TV. She received a WeChat message from Kong Jianping on her phone, saying that someone would be home for dinner in the evening.

Kong Zhixi was used to this kind of thing and complained, "It's just Uncle Zhang and those young fools in his office."

"Hey, recently there is a young man, who is not from their family, but he often comes to our house for dinner." Kong's mother looked her up and down.

She leaned forward and asked, "Why? He wants to find a matchmaker for his little daughter?"

"No, your father wouldn't do such a thing." Kong's mother continued picking vegetables.
