Be in low spirits

Chapter 15 Orphanage

After having breakfast in town, the two drove to the dean's house. The car couldn't enter the village, so they had to park at the entrance of the village. They searched for a long time and found that the door looked like no one had opened it for a long time, and there was some rust on the door lock.

The villagers passing by shouted, "What are you doing?"

"Doesn't Zhao Detian live here?" Li Li asked.

"Old Zhao has been gone for several days. Who are you?" The villagers looked at them fearfully, as if they were bad guys.

"Where did you go?" Li Li showed his criminal police ID.

"He's dead. He died a few days ago." After looking at the certificate, the villager's eyes softened a lot.

"Dead?" they both said in unison.

"He's dead. He had a heart disease. He died in the hospital a few days ago. He has been cremated." The villagers told them with wide eyes, wanting to prove that what he said was true.

"Then...does he have any family or anyone?" Li Li asked.

"After dealing with his funeral, the children went back to the city to work. What do you want to see him about?" This time, the villager came up to the two men and asked in a low voice.

"Oh, it's okay, thank you uncle." Li Li thanked him and thought that since he couldn't find anyone, he could only go back and think of other ways.

The villagers saw that they could not get anything out of him, so they waved their hands, said something and left. "Same as last time, sneaking around, I don't know what they are doing." The villagers muttered as they walked away.

"Uncle, what did you say?" Li Li stepped forward and grabbed the villager.

"Oh, I mean, just like last time, you came to find Lao Zhao secretly and I don't know what's going on." The villager was a little impatient.

"Do you know who is looking for him?" Li Li asked.

"It's not you? There was also a man and a woman who came, but I don't know which one it was. After they came to look for him, Lao Zhao was hospitalized." The villager said this and left.

Kong Zhixi looked at the villagers who were leaving and said, "Could it be Liu Zheqi and Li Jing?" Li Li nodded and said, "It's very likely."

The two returned to the car. They were both somewhat devastated by having hit a snag so early in the morning.

"Let's go back to the bureau first and see if we can find the teacher at the orphanage." Li Li turned the key and drove back to the city.

"How could it be such a coincidence?" Kong Zhixi couldn't understand.

Li Li replied: "Yes, this is too coincidental. Regardless of whether it was them or not, the timing of Dean Zhao's death is just a coincidence."

"Yes." Kong Zhixi nodded thoughtfully. "Why did he die?"

"We didn't even get to see the body after it was cremated."

"But if it was really Liu Zheqi who did it, isn't this a bit of an attempt to cover up something?" Kong Zhixi felt that this didn't reflect even more that there was something wrong with him.

"Actually, let's not discuss whether Liu Zheqi killed anyone or not. Have you noticed that everyone in the company seems to respect him very much?" Li Li put forward his new discovery.

"He's a technical consultant, and also a senior executive. Is it normal to respect him?"

"But many people in the company respect him very much." Li Li deliberately emphasized the word "many people".

"But what does that prove?" Kong Zhixi felt that this was not the point.

"I don't know, but this is a bit strange." Although Li Li couldn't tell where the problem was, he felt that there must be a reason for this phenomenon.

"Oh, my head hurts." Kong Zhixi didn't know whether she had a headache because the question had no answer or because she didn't sleep well last night.

"Take a nap. I'll call you when we get to the service station." Li Li replied considerately.

"Yeah." Kong Zhixi fell asleep peacefully.

The running back and forth made both of them a little tired, and when they returned to the bureau, they had no energy left. They took out the orphanage's information and photos and flipped through them listlessly.

Kong Zhixi contacted the teachers at the orphanage one after another, but many of their phone numbers were no longer in service or no one answered. It seemed that the clue to the orphanage was also going to be lost.

"Hehe, come here, I found it." Li Li called Kong Zhixi in at the office door.

"What did you find?" Kong Zhixi still looked weak.

"There is a teacher in the next city who used to work in childcare there. We can go find him tomorrow." Li Li said, pointing to the information handed to Kong Zhixi.

Kong Zhixi looked at the information for a long time, and then said, "Will we fail again this time?"

"No, she answered the phone." Li Li was very confident.

"I hope so." Kong Zhixi was not very sure.

"Let's go back and rest early today and set off early tomorrow morning." Li Li began to pack up.

Kong Zhixi nodded and also wanted to go back to take a shower and have a good sleep.

The two got up early in the morning and set off before the fog had dissipated. They both hoped to gain something this time. Kong Zhixi even packed some buns to eat on the way.

There was a light moisture in the air mixed with the scent of grass. The breath of spring filled her face, and Kong Zhixi felt drowsy.

"She adapted quickly. She can eat and sleep well." Li Li couldn't help but complain. At the beginning of the investigation, she vomited several times when she saw human organs, but it didn't affect her eating and sleeping.

When they arrived at the service area, they changed seats and Li Li fell asleep peacefully. "Sleep, sleep, sleep, don't even think about how to level up and fight monsters." Kong Zhixi also complained.

The two followed the address given and found the teacher. The teacher was already very old. He looked at the photo for a long time, took out his reading glasses and put them on to study it for a while before saying, "Yeah, it looks a lot like Zhezhe."

"Like?" the two asked again in unison.

The old lady nodded and said, "Well, Zhezhe is a little inferior and doesn't dare to look up at people, so there is more white in his eyes, and he has single eyelids, so he looks more fierce than this man."

"Is it possible to find his biological parents now? Or does he have any brothers or sisters?" Kong Zhixi felt that proving this was the most important thing.

"This... I haven't heard of it. He arrived at the orphanage earlier than me, and I didn't pay much attention to it when I was sorting out the children's information." The old lady shook her head.

"But... I heard from the dean before that this child has inquired about his biological parents."

"Have you found out any information?" The two men hurriedly asked, fearing that they would come up empty-handed again.

"I heard there was one, wait a minute." The old lady stood up and went back to her room, rummaging through the drawer, and took out a blurry piece of paper with a phone number written on it. She handed the number to Kong Zhixi and said, "Look for her, she might know."

The two looked at the crumpled paper, unfolded it and tried hard to determine the numbers.

"Zhezhe was adopted by her, and maybe she has met his father and mother. I don't know if she is still alive. We haven't been in touch for a long time. If you see her, please say hello to her for me." After the old lady finished speaking, she got up again and went back to the kitchen to wash rice.

Li Li dialed the number on the paper. Kong Zhixi stood outside the car window and kicked at the car, feeling a little frustrated. Li Li talked on the phone for a long time on the other side. The sunlight began to become a little harsh, as dazzling as the headlights on the operating table.

"Let's go to the next place." Li Li said to her. Kong Zhixi's heart suddenly began to ache. She held the car door and grabbed her chest. Cold sweat kept coming out of her forehead. Li Li was a little panicked and opened his hands to ask her what was wrong. Kong Zhixi didn't know what was wrong. It was like a knife cutting her body, cutting through her flesh layer by layer. She felt weak all over and couldn't move. Then she fainted.

When she woke up, she was already lying on the sofa in Li Li's office. Li Li was sitting at his desk looking through some documents, with a cup of steaming hot tea next to him.

"What's wrong with me?" She sat up and looked at her whole body. Fortunately, nothing was missing, and there seemed to be no problem with her chest.

"Are you awake? Are you hungry? I left some food for you. I'll heat it up for you." Li Li put down the documents in his hand and asked with some concern.

Kong Zhixi nodded and wanted to stand up, but Li Li stopped her and said, "Lie down first and eat before getting up, otherwise you may get hypoglycemia and feel dizzy if you stand up."

"Okay." She didn't understand what was going on, and felt that she was delaying the progress of the investigation, so she had to do as she was told.

Li Li brought the food, watched her finish eating, smiled, and wanted to reach out and touch her head, but Kong Zhixi subconsciously dodged.
