I'm a hero in Marvel

Chapter 68 Full of Spirit

Recently, Tony's brain has been working faster than ever before, just like going back to the time when he made the Iron Man armor fifty years ago. However, now three months have passed, and the manufacturing progress of the Sentinel robot has only been completed by 40%.

Tony felt an unprecedented sense of urgency, because he knew that time was running out. Once the effect of the infinite serum was exhausted, his brain would age rapidly. By then, he might not even be able to see the complex data on the drawings and the details of a bunch of mutant formulas.

He worked day and night, but what was holding him back now was not his brain, but the lack of resources and limited technical staff. It was no longer fifty years ago when Tony could not mobilize all the resources he had before, when he controlled Stark Industries, raw materials were readily available, Jarvis's intelligent AI was on standby at all times, and there was a fully automated manufacturing plant under the villa.

If Tony had received this design fifty years ago, he would have been confident that he could have built the first prototype within a week and developed at least two improved models within three months. But at this base in Mexico, he had no resources and no manpower, and although everyone was full of enthusiasm, this could not make up for the lack of technology.

Tony has already adjusted the life support system to the highest level and increased the oxygen supply of the ventilator. A large amount of oxygen enters the blood and is transported to various organs throughout the body, especially the brain.

The high oxygen content stimulates Tony's brain, and the oxygen-rich blood provides sufficient nutrition to the brain, keeping him energetic at all times.

For a moment, he was transported back to his teenage years at MIT, when he had boundless energy, but now MIT had become a place that worshipped mutants, and Tony felt heartbroken to think of what his alma mater had become.

"You should go and rest." Nightcrawler and Hawkeye walked into the lab to remind him, "Tony, you are almost ninety years old. Staying up late is not good for your health. You are overdrawing your life. If you continue like this, the Infinity Serum may not last more than half a year before it loses its effect."

Hawkeye was not exaggerating. Tony had stayed up a lot of nights in the past month. Although he was full of energy, his body began to shrink. The strength that had been gradually restored by the infinite serum weakened again.

This was not a good sign, meaning that the effectiveness of the Infinity Serum was fading quickly.

"I can't stop, guys, I don't have much time. If I can complete the manufacturing process of the Sentinel and write a detailed operating manual when my mind is clear, who will guide the young people to complete this complicated work in the future?" Tony didn't even raise his head and continued to type quickly on the keyboard in front of the computer, listing a series of complex calculation formulas.

"I have to finish it as soon as possible!" Night Walker and Hawkeye looked at each other. They knew that the success of the Sentinel Project depended largely on luck.

Because they lack key materials, they are lucky to complete 40% of the manufacturing. Even if the Sentinel is completed, can it really meet everyone's expectations and eliminate mutants? Maybe, but one is definitely not enough, and hundreds of them may be needed. But if it is so difficult to manufacture one, how can hundreds of them be achieved?

In fact, from Nightcrawler to Hawkeye, to Spider-Man, and even Tony himself, they all had doubts in their hearts and were ready to give up. But they still persisted in order to inspire the morale of others in the resistance base. The most terrifying thing in the dark age is to lose hope. These old guys knew this very well, so they kept silent tacitly.

Seeing how persistent Tony was, Nightcrawler and Hawkeye stopped arguing with him and found a place to sit quietly, watching him check the formulas and list the tasks.

In fact, the design and manufacturing steps are almost finished with Tony's day and night efforts, and he is only doing the final verification now. The next step is to find a suitable USB flash drive or other storage device to copy the files.

Just as the three old men were busy in the laboratory, Daodan's attack came suddenly. The huge explosion and shock wave caused Tony to fall directly off the chair.

"Tony!" Nightcrawler yelled, rushing forward to protect Tony from being hit by falling debris.

"The enemy is attacking! It's Red Tank! He is coming with Magneto's first elite force! Our base is exposed!" Spider-Man rushed in amid the violent shaking and brought bad news.

"Damn it! How did Magneto find this place!" Hawkeye held on to the wall to avoid falling.

The explosion of Daodan lasted for nearly a minute. Tony's laboratory was located at the bottom of the underground, so it escaped. However, the upper level of the underground palace suffered heavy losses, and the sentinel robot, which had just completed 40% of its manufacturing, was also destroyed in the violent explosion...

"The explosion has stopped! They are planning a frontal attack." Nightcrawler announced loudly when he noticed that the shockwave had stopped. The First Elite Battalion was the strongest assault force under Magneto. Even if it was intact, the resistance base could not withstand this force, not to mention that it had been bombarded by hundreds of sudden earth-penetrating bombs.

Tony, who was protected by Nightcrawler, patted him on the back gently, signaling that he could let go: "Hawkeye, quickly get Abraham and Millie over here, we are out of time! Nightcrawler, help me up, there are only a few formulas left, I must finish this code!"

Tony yelled at the top of his lungs, "Hurry! We only have a few minutes left!"

......

Logan didn't watch how Red Tank's men attacked the rebel base, and he didn't want to know what would happen next. He just turned his head, took out a bottle of gin from his arms and took a swig.

However, Red Tank did not miss the opportunity to provoke Logan, and said to him with a half-smile: "Logan, do you know who is leading this resistance base?"

Logan didn't even look at Red Tank and continued drinking.

Seeing this, Red Tank shook his head, as if he was disappointed with Logan's performance: "Ah, you don't care at all. You just want to end everything here as soon as possible, and then take your grandchildren to Canada to continue logging, right?"

"Well, you really don't have to care about that, even if the leaders are Tony Stark, Nightcrawler, Hawkeye Barton, Spider-Man, and Professor Xavier Charles Xavier!" Red Tank said indifferently.

As each name was mentioned, Logan's pupils suddenly contracted, and the hand holding the wine bottle involuntarily exerted force until the bottle broke, and the amber wine spilled all over the ground. The sharp fragments pierced his palm, and blood flowed, but he was completely unaware.

......

Hawkeye led a group of young men and women to Tony's laboratory. They were carefully selected potential people. For this group of older people, they had already prepared for the worst.

There are about twenty men and women, all of whom are young people who have just turned twenty years old. They were ordinary people with super powers and were later adopted by Magneto.

Nightcrawler and his friends took these people in and trained them in a planned way. In addition to teaching them combat skills, they also imparted various knowledge, including scientific knowledge taught by Tony.

The team leaders were Abraham and Millie, who served as the male and female captains respectively. Tony handed a small USB flash drive to the two of them.

"Listen, there's no time, kids. You should understand what we're facing. Magneto has found us." Tony said, looking at the two young men.

"They're afraid, Magneto is afraid of us, so he always wants to get rid of us as soon as possible, especially when we have weapons that can destroy his regime." Tony said, pointing to the USB drive.

"It contains the production methods of all the sentinels, as well as the improvement plans I proposed. You must keep it properly and build these machines when the time is right! Remember, don't let anyone find you!" Abraham and Millie's faces were full of sadness, and so were the other young people.

They knew what this meant; they had been told the worst possible outcome since the Nightcrawler had begun training them.

"No, I don't want to leave you!" Millie cried, holding onto Nightwalker and Tony's clothes tightly and unwilling to leave. She was saved by Nightwalker at the most critical moment. To her, Nightwalker and Tony were her family, and this resistance base was her final destination, but now they told her that her family was broken up.

She had experienced this kind of pain once as a child and didn't want to experience it again.

"There's no time, kids. Leave quickly, we will buy you time. Where's Spider-Man? Is the Professor here? Let him go with the kids!" Nightcrawler shouted.

Before Spider-Man could answer, the professor's voice was heard: "No need, don't let these children suffer. My old bones are of no use. It would be better to buy them some time."

The professor pushed the wheelchair into the laboratory with difficulty: "I have seen too many students die, and I don't want to see the disappearance of young lives, so I'd better stay."

Nightcrawler, Tony, Spider-Man and Hawkeye looked at each other, and no one objected. They urged the young people led by Abraham and Millie to enter the secret passage that had been prepared long ago, so that they could escape through the passage.

When well-equipped mutant warriors holding powerful weapons appeared in front of Nightcrawler and others, the elderly Nightcrawler drew out his thunder blade. Although his hands were shaking, he said firmly: "Everyone, it is my honor to fight alongside you. I am lucky to fight with a group of real heroes at the last moment of my life."

Stop talking so much, Night Walker. You're more talkative than anyone else. You might as well steady your shaking hands and kill a few more bad guys. Hawkeye has already put the arrow on the bow.

At least I can die on the battlefield instead of dying in bed, which will be my greatest honor. Tony said in a wheelchair. Professor Charles beside him also nodded in agreement: I think so too.

Don't forget me. Spider-Man straightened his costume and said solemnly, "We have always been heroes, fifty years ago and still are today. Friends, let's put a perfect end to our last heroic career!"

After saying that, Spider-Man rushed towards the enemy first, followed by Nightcrawler, Hawkeye, Professor and Tony. These elderly heroes, at the end of their lives, declared war on death with an angry charge.

Perhaps from the beginning, they had no illusions about the Sentinel Project. Perhaps these old heroes had long ago lost hope in this gloomy world.

But they used their old and bent backs to bear all the haze. They were as hard as steel and as tough as spider silk. Their bent backs carried the final hopes of countless people.

Even in this darkest era, even in the years when there was no hope, they still made a choice. They kept despair for themselves and passed on hope to others.

For those who gave them spiritual encouragement, for the young people who fled in the secret passages with the flame of hope in their hearts.

The desperate charge of a group of old men may not seem very heroic, but it makes everyone understand: a hero is a hero until death!
