The End of the World: Chaos

Chapter 312: Cloud of Doubt

"Don't you think that such accusations are extremely unfair?" Yang Yi's eyes trembled slightly, and there was an unspeakable helplessness in his voice, as if he was trying hard to maintain his dignity.

Steve shook his head, his expression solemn, his words revealing hidden pain: "I don't have time to think about whether it is fair or not. You know, facing those lives that have fallen and are unable to wake up, our hearts are always shrouded in doubt."

"But, I really can't do anything..." Yang Yi's voice was like a lamb lurking in the abyss, and his clenched fists revealed his inner confusion and despair.

Seeing this, Ruth whispered, "Perhaps you can try to find clues from those unconscious patients? See if you can reveal some truths that we are still unaware of."

Yang Yi's eyes suddenly flashed with a gleam of light, as if he was instantly ignited by Ruth's words: "Yes! The coma of those people is definitely not as simple as we see on the surface. There must be deeper reasons behind it."

"You mean... maybe it's some kind of conspiracy?" Xika frowned slightly, as if trying to figure out the truth of the matter.

"I think... there is indeed a complex conspiracy behind this incident, just like a huge mystery waiting for us to uncover it." Yang Yi said seriously, frowning, his voice gradually firmed up, "We can't put all the responsibility on me alone. I am not one of those who can control everything at will."

Steve thought silently for a moment, and finally nodded: "You are right, but we need time to collect evidence and find the truth." He looked solemn, and his eyes gradually became deep. "If things get worse, everyone will lose their trust in me. We must not let this become a normal situation."

"So where should we start?" Ruth interrupted, her face full of anxiety.

"We should start with those unconscious patients and look for their commonalities, and perhaps we can gradually sort things out. For example, their social circles, professional backgrounds, and even what they eat." Yang Yi's tone suddenly became sonorous and powerful, as if to gather everyone's faith.

"This sounds feasible, but it will require a lot of manpower and time." Sika frowned, as if weighing the effectiveness of this move.

"Then let's split up!" Yang Yi proposed resolutely, "Steve, you are responsible for collecting information and files about these patients; Ruth and Sika, you go visit the patients' families to see if there is anything abnormal in their recent condition, or which friends they have had contact with." When he turned to look at Ruth and Sika, there was a gleam of anticipation in his eyes.

"I understand. I will do so." The two responded in unison, and a glimmer of hope gradually grew in their hearts.

"As for me..." Yang Yi paused for a moment, his tone firm and steady, "I want to go to the place where those patients are unconscious and look for possible clues."

"Wouldn't it be too dangerous for you to go alone?" Steve looked worried, his voice full of concern. "How could I just sit there and let you take the risk alone?"

"Don't worry, I will proceed with caution." Yang Yi comforted him. Although his tone was simple, it revealed his firm belief. "As long as we are determined to achieve our goal, we will be able to find the truth."

"In that case, I will go with you!" Steve said without hesitation, his tone showing determination, "This time, I don't want to be an idle bystander again."

So, everyone went their separate ways, Yang Yi and Steve followed, and they went straight to a mental hospital where patients who were in a coma for some reason lived. The dim corridor seemed to be covered in fog, and the coating on the white wall was eroded, revealing a gloomy atmosphere.

"This place is so cold it makes my teeth chatter." Steve shuddered, his eyes wandering around the gloomy corridor, looking extremely uneasy.

"Stay alert, we need to find the medical staff who witnessed these coma incidents." Yang Yi whispered, as if the invisible pressure repeatedly reminded them that all this was not ordinary.

They went to the ward and asked the nurse on duty about the situation.

"Excuse me, have there been many unconscious patients sent here recently?" Yang Yi asked, with a hint of urgency in his tone.

The nurse's eyes widened in fear. "Yes, starting a few weeks ago, more and more people suddenly collapsed on the street. After examination, there was nothing wrong with their bodies, but they fell into an endless coma."

"Is there anything in common, or who has been around them?" Steve asked immediately.

The nurse shook her head helplessly. "We are also trying to find the answer. Many people are lonely and have no ties to anyone, so the information is very scarce." She crossed her arms in front of her chest, with a slightly anxious look on her face. "But some patients have mentioned a mysterious person who seemed to have appeared in their vision before they fell into a coma."

Yang Yi and Steve looked at each other and knew that this person was extremely important.

"Can we check the medical records of these patients?" Yang Yi asked patiently.

The nurse hesitated for a moment, and finally decided to take the risk and responded: "Okay, but you must be careful not to attract the attention of the hospital."

Just as the nurse was leading them to check the medical records, a faint sound came from a corner of the ward.

"Who... are you..." A comatose patient slowly opened his eyes, his voice as weak as a mosquito.

Yang Yi and Steve immediately headed towards the source of the sound, feeling unbelievable.

The patient looked pale and terrified, as if he had seen a very scary scene.

"Are you okay?" Steve asked worriedly.

"I... I saw a shadow in my dream..." The patient uttered a few words with difficulty, his expression dazed, "It was calling me, urging me to follow it..."

Everyone immediately held their breath, their hearts sank, and they looked at each other in bewilderment. This description was like a loud and clear alarm bell, striking each other's souls.

"Shadow? Can you tell me more details?" Yang Yi asked anxiously, his expression becoming more serious.

"It... has countless hands and seems to be able to reach everywhere." The patient almost muttered to himself, looking like he was trapped in a nightmare.
