Conan Moslin

Chapter 37: The Shock at the Art Exhibition (2) - Ochiai

Li An covered his face and yawned, then knocked on the door of the Maori Detective Agency.

It was Conan who opened the door.

Inside the door, Mao Li Ran was standing in front of the desk, smiling beautifully, but the desk next to her was suspiciously dented. Mao Li Kogoro was standing at the door, giving her a loving smile.

Xiaolan is really strong...

Li An looked at the half-destroyed table and thought that she didn't have that much strength.

But Yuko does.

Li An greeted the Maori family.

Mao Lilan seemed very surprised: "Sister Li An, didn't we agree to meet at the entrance of the Rice Flower Art Museum? Why are you here?"

"I had nothing to do this morning, so I came here early." Li An said with a smile, "It just so happens that I haven't been to Mr. Mao Li's office yet. I'll get to know the way. It will be convenient for me to come to Mr. Mao Li if I have any commissions in the future."

Well, Li An admitted that she hadn't been here for a long time, but she just wanted to come and take a look.

The Maori Detective Agency was just as she remembered it, with the tables, coffee tables, and sofas all neatly arranged.

Everything was familiar except that one third of the table was damaged.

"Sister Li An! Sister Xiaolan just said that there is an armor that can move in the art museum! Have you heard about it?" Conan walked around to Li An and asked.

Li An bent down and touched Conan's head: "Has Conan heard about it too? Are children very curious about this kind of thing?"

He is already seventeen years old, and this person is still touching his head even though he knows why!

Conan winked at Li An, obviously not what he wanted to say.

"Ah, I just told them." Mao Lilan said, "Dad and Conan are very interested and want to go with us."

She looked at the two people, one big and one small, very gently and asked, "Is that so~"

Kogoro Mouri and Conan couldn't help but glance at the table, shuddered and nodded repeatedly.

"Let's go!" Mao Lilan took Li An's hand and said with a smile.

"Oh!" Conan was forced to cheer.

……

The Beihua Art Museum is one of the few cultural facilities in Beihua. Its brick-red walls exude a strong sense of history.

What is being held now is a medieval art exhibition, and the main exhibits should be works from the Middle Ages.

"Wow... there are so many beautiful paintings." Walking through the exhibition, Mao Lilan exclaimed happily, "It's really nice to be here!"

Li An nodded: "Yeah, I think it's good too."

Li An stood in front of the painting of two women and two children sitting together, and turned to Mr. Maori and asked, "Mr. Maori, from which period of the Middle Ages do you think this painting was made?"

Mao Lilan turned her head expectantly.

Kogoro Mouri's expression was a little stiff, he thought the girl was probably teasing him.

He is a detective! A detective! Not an artist or a historian!

Conan glanced at Uncle Maori with his half-moon eyes, and then said: "I know! The works from the late Middle Ages are very vivid! Much better looking than the earlier ones!"

"Wow~ Conan knows so much!" Ran Mouri clasped her hands together and exclaimed in admiration.

This damn kid doesn't know how to hide his abilities!

Li An thinks Xiaolan has great potential to become a film queen.

Kogoro glanced at him: "How did you know this?"

Conan touched his head: "Yes... it was from a TV show..."

The Middle Ages refers to the period from the late 5th century to the mid-15th century AD, an intermediate period between the three major traditional divisions of European history.

The art works in the early Middle Ages were full of religious themes, and the characters portrayed were usually serious and stereotyped. There were often paintings of young children with adult faces and eyes.

In the late Middle Ages, the Renaissance began to sprout. The Renaissance appeared from the 14th to the 17th century. Humanism as the core made the works of art in this period begin to have a humanistic light, and the expressions of the characters became more vivid. Some still life paintings also appeared in this period.

As for the figure in front of us, which is probably the Virgin Mary, the styles of the early and late Middle Ages are completely different.

Of course Li An was not kidding, she did have some questions.

Yes, this painting is indeed in the style of a medieval work, but some of the other paintings along the way are... not medieval paintings.

This is clearly supposed to be an exhibition of medieval works, so why are there some works that are clearly not from the Middle Ages?

"Hahaha, this kid is right. This painting is indeed from the late Middle Ages."

An old voice came: "The painting exhibition hall is different from other exhibition halls. Here are some works from different eras. For example, the one in front of me."

This voice...

Li An turned her head and saw an old man with gray hair and beard and a kind smile. He stood with his hands behind his back and turned to smile at them.

In front of the old man is a painting of an angel. Surrounded by clouds and mist, two chubby children with white wings are playing beside the stone pillars of heaven. The blue and white colors are interwoven to create a dreamy work.

Without waiting for anyone to speak, the old man slowly introduced the painting in front of them: "This painting is called "Leisure Angel", one of Picasso's masterpieces."

“Although it’s not very famous, I really like the transparency and warm brushstrokes of this work.”

"No, I like all the works here." The old man raised his head and looked at the paintings in the hall attentively. No emotion could be seen in his narrowed eyes. "They are just like my children. They are so cute."

After hearing this series of words, Li An confirmed the identity of this person.

One of Conan's childhood shadows, the director of the art museum, Ochiai.

She disguised herself as a security guard last night and saw this man and negotiated with him.

So, today, will you kill someone again?

Li An covered his mouth and yawned, thinking so.

"This painting will be sent to the upcoming Pekaso exhibition for display in a while. You are in for a treat to see it now," said Ochiai with a smile.

Although Li An knew who he was, he still asked respectfully: "Old sir, may I ask who you are——"

The old man turned around and introduced himself to them: "I'm sorry, I'm the curator here, my last name is Ochiai. Hello."

Mao Lilan was a little surprised: "It's the curator, Mr. Sorry."

"Okay, please take your time to enjoy it." Director Ochiai turned his head and found that someone had picked up a painting with his hands without any hesitation.

The old man lost his previous smiling face and shouted angrily, "Kubota, what are you doing? When handling your artwork, you must wear gloves! I've told you several times! Have you forgotten, haven't you?!"

Kubota raised his hand and looked at it, then said apologetically, "I'm sorry."

The curator walked over and scolded him: "You don't have to do it anymore!"

He turned to look at the other person who was cleaning the painting and said, "Iijima, I'll leave this to you."

"Yes." The man responded and took over Kubota's work.

Kubota sneered and left the painting with a look of disdain on his face.
