Chapter 18: Notice Something Strange

The night fell slowly like a thick black curtain. When Fu Chen stepped into the house, a strange silence hit him. Fu Chen keenly sensed something strange.

At this time of the day, Yan Zixin would always be waiting for him in the living room on the first floor with a smile on her face, sharing a warm dinner time together. However, today she was nowhere to be seen.

Fu Chen frowned slightly, and a sense of doubt arose in his heart.

He called the housekeeper and asked where Yan Zixin was. The housekeeper replied respectfully, "Miss Yan locked herself in her room the whole afternoon."

Fu Chen's heart tightened, and his intuition told him that something was wrong. He then asked, "Did anything special happen today?"

The housekeeper answered truthfully: "Only Mrs. Fu came. She and Miss Yan chatted in the living room for a while."

Fu Chen's eyes became serious, and he asked, "Did you hear what they talked about?"

The housekeeper shook his head and answered respectfully, "No, Madam has dismissed all the servants."

A cloud of doubt suddenly rose in Fu Chen's heart. He felt that the problem must be here. He took a step, walked upstairs quickly, and walked towards Yan Zixin's room eagerly. He gently pushed open the door, and the faint moonlight shone through the curtains onto Yan Zixin's body. He saw Yan Zixin lying on her side on the bed. Her slightly trembling shoulders looked particularly pitiful in the moonlight. He knew that she was crying, which instantly hurt his heart.

He walked lightly to the bed and sat down, gently stroking her hair and asked softly, "Zixin, what's wrong? What happened to make you so sad?"

Yan Zixin's sobs filled the silent room, as if every sob struck Fu Chen's heart.

She turned around, stared at Fu Chen with tearful eyes, and said in a slightly hoarse voice: "There is such a big gap between us, how can you really like me?" Fu Chen's heart was tightened by her words. He looked at her with pity and gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.

He held her hand and said sincerely: "Zixin, why do you think so? Status and wealth are not obstacles between us. What I like is your kindness, your strength, and your smile. These are the reasons why I love you."

Yan Zixin raised her head, and the tears in her eyes became more violent.

She asked in a trembling voice, "Then why have you never given me a clear identity? And why have you never confessed your feelings to me?"

Fu Chen was slightly stunned. He realized that his behavior might have caused Yan Zixin to misunderstand. He held her hand tightly and said seriously: "Zixin, I have been looking for a suitable time to express my true feelings to you. I hope that our relationship is based on mutual understanding and trust, not just a definition of identity. I want you to know that my feelings for you are real and I love you."

His eyes were full of sincerity and warmth, as if to melt away her doubts and uneasiness. Yan Zixin's heart gradually settled down in his words. She looked at him, recalling his kindness to her, with tears in her eyes. Fu Chen gently embraced her in his arms, as if to embrace all her sadness.

He whispered in her ear, "Don't doubt my feelings for you anymore, okay? I will prove my love with my actions."

Yan Zixin felt his sincerity and tenderness in his embrace.
