She had heard about Iwai Yuichi's calligraphy level, which was very high. Since he could ask Yuan Shikai to write an appreciation article for him, Yuan Shikai's calligraphy level should be higher than Iwai Yuichi's, or at least on par with him. However, Yuan Shikai was so young, about the same age as herself, and it was impossible to tell that he had such a high level.

That's why she said what she said just now. In fact, An Shimin and Guo Quan had the same suspicion.

An Shimin said:

"Yes, Secretary Yuan, let us open our eyes and appreciate your calligraphy."

Guo Quan also echoed:

"It seems that everyone is looking forward to it. I think Secretary Yuan will not let us down."

Yuan Ye didn't expect that his words would cause such a big reaction from everyone. He also realized that although they said so, they actually didn't believe it.

However, Yuan Ye also understood. Didn't Su Xiwu and Iwai Yuichi also not believe it at the time? What about these people? However, it didn't matter whether these people believed it or not. Yuan Ye didn't take it to heart and there was no need to prove it.

He laughed and said:

"I'm really sorry, I don't have any of the four treasures of the study here, I'll show you another day!"

After Yuan Ye said this, He Li became even more suspicious. Isn't this just an excuse not to write?

He Li smiled and said:

"I have the four treasures of the study here. It is better to write now than to wait for a better day. I can't wait any longer.

You know, I am also a calligraphy enthusiast, otherwise how could I have the four treasures of the study here.

Sometimes when I get off work late and you are not around, I will practice.

Of course, I only practiced secretly because my handwriting was really not good enough.

So I want to see what Secretary Yuan wrote and learn from it."

"Oh, Secretary He also likes calligraphy. It's okay if you want me to write. How about Secretary He write a piece of calligraphy for us to appreciate?"

Yuan Ye smiled.

"Yeah."

Everyone agreed enthusiastically.

"Okay, then I'll throw out some ideas and show off my ugliness."

He Li was not at all modest. She took out the four treasures of the study from the drawer and spread out a piece of rice paper on the table. Cui Jian quickly helped He Li grind the ink.

After a while, the ink was ground. He Li tried it to see if it was of the right thickness. Then she dipped the ink and picked up the brush to start writing on the rice paper. Soon, a piece of calligraphy appeared before everyone.

He Li put down her pen and looked at everyone with confidence, obviously very satisfied with her work.

This is a work of cursive script, a poem by Li Qingzhao of the Southern Song Dynasty.

Red lotus root fragrant and residual jade in autumn.

Loosen Luo Chang lightly and board the Lanzhou alone.

Who will send the brocade book in the cloud?

When the wild goose returns, the moon is full of the west building.

The flowers flow by themselves.

A kind of lovesickness, two sorrows.

There is no way to eliminate this situation,

Only under the brow, but our hearts.

Yuan Ye admired it carefully. Every stroke was charming and every word was graceful. Every word showed the beauty and diversity of women, just like a woman's beautiful face and figure.

The connection between the strokes and the characters is relatively close, but the transition is not very natural, and the rhythm and ups and downs of the whole calligraphy are a bit bland, so it cannot be considered a good work.

Yuan Ye knew that the most notable feature of running script is its fluidity. So when some people write running script works, they deliberately pursue the feeling of "flowing like clouds and water". He Li also made the same mistake.

However, He Li obviously lacks the foundation of years of copying calligraphy, so her running script looks very "frivolous". Her running script looks like a flying dragon and a phoenix, as if it is very chic, but in fact the strokes are light and lack of strength. In fact, the lightness and fluency of running script is based on calmness and stability.

However, An Shimin and the other three clearly lacked the ability to appreciate things. When they saw He Li's work, they thought it was very beautiful and praised it in unison:

"Wow, Secretary He, your handwriting is so good."

He Li was very pleased to hear this, and a proud look appeared on her face, but she said:

"No, no, thank you for the compliment."

Seeing that Yuan Ye said nothing, she was surprised:

"Secretary Yuan, is my work bad? Why don't you express your opinion?"

I thought, could it be that he was so intimidated by his own work that he dared not speak?

Yuan Ye smiled and said:

"It's good to be able to write like this, but it's not a good work."

Yuan Ye spoke the truth and did not deliberately flatter her. When he saw He Li looking complacent, he deliberately poured cold water on her.

Sure enough, the smile on He Li's face faltered, and it immediately turned cold. It was obvious that the noble lady's self-esteem was hit. Her handwriting had been praised by people around her since she was a child, and no one had ever said that her handwriting was average.

She said coldly:

"My handwriting is indeed not good. I want to see how Secretary Yuan writes so that I can learn from her."

When the other three people saw that He Li was a little angry, they were secretly happy in their hearts. They thought, this Yuan Shikai is a little too arrogant. If his handwriting is really good, it won’t matter. But if his level is just average, let’s see how he ends up.

Yuan Ye knew that the noble lady was unhappy and must be unconvinced, but he didn't care. He thought, I'll see whether you are convinced or not after I finish writing a piece of work.

Yuan Ye smiled and said:

"Secretary He, we can't talk about learning, so let's learn from each other."

Under the gaze of the crowd, Yuan Ye spread another piece of rice paper on the table, picked up the pen, dipped it in ink, pondered for a moment, and then wrote quickly. After a while, Yuan Ye stopped writing and said:

"It's embarrassing!"

After saying this, he put down his pen and looked at everyone with a smile.

Yuan Ye also wrote a running script work, which depicts Su Shi’s famous poem "Ding Feng Bo·Don’t Listen to the Sound of Leaves Being Blown by the Wind".

Don't listen to the sound of forest hitting leaves, why not scream and walk slowly.

Who's afraid of bamboo sticks and mango shoes lighter than horses?Ren Pingsheng amidst the rain.

When the spring breeze awakens, it is slightly cold, but the hilltop is shining obliquely.

Looking back at the bleak place, there is no wind, rain, or sunshine when I return.

This is Yuan Ye's favorite poem, no other. So I just picked it up and wrote it.

He Li has a certain appreciation ability, so she admired it carefully, and found that the strokes of the whole work were graceful, agile, calm and varied.

Sometimes it is graceful and light, full of fresh and carefree beauty; sometimes it is heroic and thick, showing a vigorous and majestic image, with ever-changing meanings.

It fully inherits the style of Wei and Jin Dynasties, with strokes that are compact yet stretched, and each character is standardized, precise, harmonious and elegant.

He has grasped the "ancient method" very well, exuding a leisurely, gentle and elegant aura of literati, and of course also includes surging vitality, which is indeed the essence of Xizhi.

He Li has also copied Wang Xizhi's "Lanting Preface" for many years, and her own works also have some of Wang's flavor, but compared with Yuan Ye's works, there is a far cry. She deeply felt that she had not learned the essence of the world's best running script, and Yuan Ye's works are simply textbook-like.

Even An Shimin, Cui Jian and Guo Quan, who had no appreciation ability at all, could see that Yuan Ye's works were indeed much better than He Li's. Comparing the two, the difference was immediately clear and they were all impressed. No wonder Iwai Yuichi, a big shot in Japan, asked Yuan Ye to write an appreciation article.

He Li's tightly furrowed brows relaxed, her face filled with admiration, an inexplicable feeling of love welled up in her heart, which could not be shaken off, and a blush quietly appeared on her pretty cheek.
