Chapter 7: White Sandalwood Gym and Doubles Battle

"Excuse me, are you two here for the gym challenge?"

Unlike in the game, there are far more than eight gyms in the Kalos region, and the gym challenges are not that serious. They are more of a teaching battle. Except for a few gym masters with unique personalities, most gym masters will not set up weird tests to embarrass challengers, at least not in the White Sandalwood Gym.

After Naoki and Naoki entered the gym, the receptionist at the door looked at their trainer cards and quickly took them to the battle field. The battle field was located in the middle of the gym, surrounded by a large number of flowers and trees, and some insect-type Pokémon were playing in it. In the middle of the battle field, two people were fighting Pokémon. One side was Miss Violet, the owner of the White Sandalwood Gym, and the other side was a challenger who arrived here earlier than Naoki and Naoki.

The Pokémon on the battlefield are Yo-Yo and Pikachu. It seems that Pikachu, which has an attribute advantage, is currently slightly better.

"Yo-Yo, use Bubble Ray!"

"Pikachu, use Shadow Clone to dodge! Electric shock!"

"Yo-Yo has lost the ability to fight. The winner is the trainer Calum from Chaoxiang Town."

The battle was over, and Naoki also saw the appearance of the challenger. This guy was undoubtedly the male protagonist in the game version, a boy who had just moved to the Kalos area.

"Kalumu, long time no see!" Yeruno obviously knew him and walked up to him quickly to greet him.

"Yeruno!" Kalumu didn't notice the person coming in at first, and turned around with some surprise.

"Let me introduce you. This is Karumu who just moved to Chaoxiang Town. This one over here is our friend. His name is Naoki and he's from Miare City."

"Hello!" Naoki and Kalumu stretched out their hands and shook hands.

"Naoki-kun, Yeruno, are you two here to challenge the gym?" Miss Violet took a picture of the three of them secretly with a camera in the back, then walked up and asked.

"Ah, yes, Miss Violet, please."

"No problem. The gym battle is officially a 3v3. Which of you two will go first?"

"Eh? You want three? But I only have two Pokémon right now." Yeruno was devastated.

Violet held her chin with her left hand and thought for a while, then said, "How about this, you two each send out two Pokémon, and I'll use four, and have a 4v4 doubles battle?"

Doubles battles did not start in Kalos, but originated in the Hoenn region. Recently, they have been accepted by the Pokémon League and have become a formal battle method after singles battles. Doubles battles have more tactics than singles battles, and they test the trainer's command level and reaction speed.

Naoki and Yeruno looked at each other and said in unison: "No problem."

The three of them came to both sides of the battle field, and Kalumu sat in the audience seats. Kalumu was not in a hurry to leave. As a new trainer, watching a gym match would undoubtedly provide him with a lot of experience, not to mention that this was the first doubles match he had seen.

"Then I'll start with the Rainwing Moth and the Colorful Powder Butterfly!"

Violet sent out two generals right away, and it seemed that she had no intention of letting them go. Naoki could see that Rainwing Moth was at level 24, and Butterfly was at level 22. Although they were not too superb, they were definitely not at the level they should use when fighting against newcomers.

"I've decided on you, go ahead, Argus!" Yeruno sent out his second Pokémon, a Flying-type that could restrain the gym. It was level 10. Even with the attribute restraint, it had no advantage at all at this level. Even a move that could resist it would probably take away half of its health in one go.

After thinking it over, Naoki decided to send out Charmander. At this time, Charmander had reached level 13 and was not far from the second stage of evolution. Naoki wanted it to accumulate some experience. At the same time, Naoki also wanted to try whether level was the key factor in real Pokémon battles.

"Yeruno, you take the lead and I'll assist you! Charmander, use Spark on the Colorful Butterfly!"

"Rainwing Moth, pray for rain! Iridescent Butterfly, use paralysis powder on Charmander!"

"Little Arrowbird, move up at high speed! Use peck attack on the Colorful Butterfly!"

Rainmoth launched a rain-praying spell, and a small dark cloud gathered inside the gym. Raindrops slowly fell, and Charmander's sparks were affected by the raindrops, and their size shrank visibly to the naked eye. However, Butterfly's paralysis powder was also disturbed by her teammates' rain-praying spell, and the release distance was shortened a lot, so it did not successfully hit Charmander.

At this time, the last to attack, the little arrow bird, accelerated at high speed and attacked the colorful butterfly. The attack hit the front of the colorful butterfly, causing a small amount of damage. Due to the intimidation of the rain-winged moth's appearance, the physical attack was reduced by one, and the level difference caused the influence. Even if it was a restrained skill, the damage caused was about one-fifth to one-quarter of the colorful butterfly's health.

"Colored powder butterfly, use silk to tie up the little arrow sparrow, rain-winged moth, water gun!"

"Charmander, run, use Spark on the thread to burn it, and Claw Attack!"

"Little Arrowbird, just like that, another pecking attack!"

There aren't too many fancy things in low-level doubles battles. Due to the low level, there isn't a rich skill pool. The only trick is probably to focus your fire to quickly reduce the number of the opponent's members.

The silk was burned by sparks, and the water gun failed to successfully hit the little arrowfinch that was originally aimed at. The little arrowfinch once again pecked at the colorful powder butterfly while moving at high speed. The little fire dragon's attack followed closely, and its sharp claws hit steadily, and it also delivered a very critical blow. The colorful powder butterfly's health has reached the yellow state.

"Charmander, take advantage of the victory and use your claws again!"

"Little Arrowbird, peck attack!"

"Colorful Butterfly, use Hold! Rainwing Moth, use Water Gun on Charmander!"

"Roll to avoid it!"

Naoki used Xiaozhi's magic skill of quick dodge, which was very effective. Charmander rolled on the spot and narrowly avoided the attack. However, this action also caused some loss of Charmander's physical strength. Naoki could see that the health bar on the head of Charmander was only three-quarters left. In real life, Pokémon does not have the concept of skill PP value. The health bar on the head should be more accurately called the physical bar. It will be consumed by skill attacks and using skills. If it is empty, the Pokémon will enter a state of exhaustion, rather than the near death described in the game.
