End of the World

Chapter 247 Trap

The group took a boat upstream along the Shitang River. Lu Qiqi said that the car was rushed into the river because of the broken bridge. Chen Guangjun looked for several bridges upstream, where there should be clues.

Li Zile and another boy accompanied them, and they went back only after seeing Wu Bin and his group off the boat.

There was only one boat moving alone on the huge river. Jiang Hong, who had just said goodbye to his beloved, was not quite used to it. He took out a small purse that Meng Qi had sewn herself.

Wu Bin patted his shoulder, understanding his state of mind, he had been in that situation himself, and saw the purse that He Yuxin had sewn on him.

He took it out, which was stained with some dirt, and placed it next to the purse in Jiang Hong's hand, one new and one old.

"A temporary separation is only for a better reunion!"

Jiang Hong glanced at the purse in Wu Bin's hand, turned to look at He Yuxin who was with Yan Nuoling, and clenched the purse in his hand.

"That's right, I should cheer up, Qiqi is waiting for me!" Jiang Hong threw away his unhappy thoughts.

"Guys, we're almost there!" Chen Guangjun's voice came, and everyone looked towards the river bank.

There is a river fork in the road ahead, a branch river that flows into the Shitang River. It is called Langxi River on the map, and there is a bridge not far upstream.

"Wake up, there may be survivors around!" Wu Bin shouted loudly. Everyone nodded and paid close attention to the river bank. The boat turned into the fork in the river with a clatter.

"Here!" Jiang Hong took out a monocular telescope from his backpack, which Su Yun gave him before leaving.

"Okay, let's start treasure hunting!" Wu Bin joked. When he was a kid, he admired pirates on TV. Finding treasure was a child's dream. Similar to this was becoming a hero with a bamboo sword, and all the weeds within a ten-mile radius would be killed by his sword.

The bridge ahead was indeed broken, so the boat slowed down and Wu Bin asked people to pull over and get off to investigate.

There were no traces of vehicles in the river from the shore. I wonder if the water is too deep here.

Wu Bin led a few people to the bridge, and several zombies wandering nearby encountered an unexpected disaster, ending their mission.

Even after several months, there are still obvious brake marks and black tire marks on the road.

Looking down from the bridge, Chen Guangjun saw that the water flow in the center of the river seemed to be blocked, forming a small vortex that appeared and disappeared from time to time. There might be a huge object in the water, which must be the fire truck that fell into the water.

"Do we need to go into the water to confirm?" Wu Bin also noticed.

"No need, it should be here!" Chen Guangjun waved his hand. This was the river section that best fit his speculation.

Several people came down from the bridge, feeling a little heavy-hearted. Wang Zhong probably did not escape, as he stayed on the fire truck.

"How is it?" asked Dafeng who stayed on the boat.

"Bring people down, we'll walk!" Wu Bin said. Dafeng nodded, knowing the answer.

"Li Zile, tell everyone to be on guard when you go back. This place is not too far away!" Jiang Hong shouted to Li Zile and the other man on the boat.

"Don't worry, I wish you a safe journey!" The two people on the boat waved goodbye to everyone.

After the boat left, the group finally embarked on their journey. They didn't see any zombies during this period, but the rotten skeletons left on the ground made Jiang Hong, who had just come out, unable to adapt.

"Everyone will have this day, so get used to it in advance!" Wu Bin patted him.

Jiang Hong smiled bitterly. This might be a little difficult. He really admired these people. He now felt that he didn't need to eat lunch or dinner.

Zhou Pan was better. He had seen some of it while wandering around outside, but he was just not used to the smell of corruption.

There were many traces left along the way, and the piles of bones on the ground added a touch of shade here. When the sun rose into the sky, Jiang Hong couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat.

"There are corpses from all ages, and this road is very busy!" After a rough inspection of the corpses, Chen Guangjun concluded that this was not a good thing for everyone.

"Relax, at least no one has been here recently!" Chen Guangjun said comfortingly.

The group moved forward along the road. Everyone needed to get a car, otherwise the zombies on the road would be endless to kill and there was no need to get entangled with them.

Chen Guangjun took the lead and looked for places where there might be vehicles according to the map, but the map showed that there were no car-related industries nearby, and the nearest auto repair shop was estimated to be four kilometers away.

"Wait a moment!"

Chen Guangjun noticed something unusual and everyone stopped.

"These guys have really vicious minds!" Chen Guangjun pointed in the direction where he saw iron wires laid on the road with a lot of iron nails crisscrossed and fixed on them, which were obviously prepared for passers-by.

"We've met before, but it's a pity for Su Yuling!" Wu Bin couldn't help but sigh when he thought of that time. Zhang Wenxu and Su Yuling died, and only Wen Anyuan survived, but she was also determined to commit suicide.

Jiang Hong noticed that everyone was in a bad mood, but he didn't dare to ask. No one wanted to talk about the sad past.

"They not only set them up on the road surface, but also on the roadside!" Chen Guangjun said. Under the lush grass on the roadside, there were countless steel thorns and caltrops hidden.

Caltrops are made of three nails welded together in three directions. They are simple but should not be underestimated. If people step on them, the nails can easily penetrate the soles of their shoes. If they are injured by the rusty nails, they may be infected with the tetanus virus.

"It's really vicious!" Wu Bin took out a caltrop from under the lawn.

Dafeng walked forward, took out a bag, and picked up some caltrops from the lawn. They might come in handy someday.

The zombies on the road ahead became more and more dense, so several people chose to take a detour, but they found some traps in the woods, a trap, and a corpse that had been eaten beyond recognition.

"I guess he must have been alive at that time!" Wu Bin took a look at the corpse and saw some signs of struggle around it.

"That must be so painful!" Dafeng touched the corpse's feet unconsciously when he saw the corpse's leg bones were broken by the trap.

"He triggered the trap, and his shouting attracted zombies. No one can endure that kind of pain!" Chen Guangjun guessed. Everyone nodded in agreement and paid close attention to their feet.

"Is this thing installed to catch zombies?" Jiang Hong asked.

"It's hard to say!" Wu Bin shook his head.

"There's another one here!" He Yuxin called out. She used a stick to lift the fallen leaves, revealing a clip that had not been triggered yet. It was rusty and had been there for a long time.

"Be careful, let me see!"

Chen Guangjun stepped forward and cleared more fallen leaves, revealing the full picture of the trap. The base underneath was firmly fixed by steel nails driven into the soil.

"Shh! There are zombies!"

Chen Guangjun wanted to use a stick to trigger the trap, but Yan Nuoling reminded him in a low voice and pointed to the side. There were two figures standing there in a daze. They were just shaking but not moving. Moreover, most of their bodies were hidden by the trees, so it would be difficult to spot them if you didn't pay attention.

Wu Bin made a gesture to Yan Nuoling, and Yan Nuoling drew her bow and arrow. The zombies didn't even notice the cold murderous intent.

"call out-"

"laugh!"

After two faint sounds, the zombie fell down. Yan Nuoling put down the wooden bow and nodded.

It was Chen Guangjun who used a wooden stick to poke the trigger device.

"Crack!"

The triggered clamp clamped the stick hard, and the rotten stick couldn't bear it and broke directly.

Several people felt their legs and feet go numb when they saw this. If they were caught, their feet would be broken. This kind of environment would definitely be a dead end.

Dafeng went forward and tried to take the clamp away.

"How do I get this thing to work?" He asked out loud as he couldn't pull it.

"What do you want to do with this thing? You can't open it without special tools!" Wu Bin said. Dafeng is really a qualified rag picker who picks up everything.

Dafeng didn't believe it and tried it with his bare hands, but found that he really couldn't break it open. He was also afraid of cutting his hands, so he had to give up and cover it with rotten leaves.

One after another, several people found two more clamps, and without exception, they triggered them to avoid hurting anyone.

After walking for a while, the group came to a few houses. The doors were pried open. Someone had visited and left behind several zombie corpses some time ago.

The house was in a mess, with the furniture in disarray. I didn't know what the visitor had taken away.

Wu Bin decided to rest here, have lunch, study the map, find a car and follow the main road to Kunbai. The convoy should leave traces on the road.

"Eat something!" He Yuxin handed the dry food to Jiang Hong.

"Thank you, I'm not hungry!" Jiang Hong waved his hand and pinched the purse in his hand.

"I started out like you. I couldn't eat when I saw a dead person!" He Yuxin said, and smiled slightly: "Later, I had to be really hungry before I could eat something. You'll get used to it!"

"Well, you can share it with others!" Jiang Hong also smiled back.

Dafeng and Zhou Pan were together. Zhou Pan didn't eat anything, but he watched Dafeng eat with relish.

"Aren't you hungry?" Dafeng glanced at him and saw that he didn't make any move to eat.

"No appetite!" Zhou Pan said.

"Oh!" Dafeng took a look at the dry food in his hand and wanted to ask for it, but then he thought, what if this guy poisoned it?

"For you?" Zhou Pan handed it to him. He knew Dafeng was not full.

"No need, just keep it for dinner!" Dafeng said.

Zhou Pan had no dry food or water on him, and they were only given to him at mealtimes.

Zhou Pan put away the dry food, and probably guessed that Dafeng was afraid that he would poison him. Although it is said that one cannot be a hero without poison, there is a time for it, and in this case, it would be unless he was tired of living.

"You've come all the way here, have you ever thought about...like Jiang Hong, finding a place to develop?" Zhou Pan looked around and asked Dafeng.

"How should I know? I always hang out with Brother Bin, so I can go anywhere!" Dafeng answered bluntly. If you want to, go ask Wu Bin yourself, because he won't tell you anyway.

"...Aren't you afraid? After all, this is the world!"

"Huh! That's you, stop trying to sow discord!" Dafeng sneered. This guy really had no good intentions.

"No, this is a very realistic problem!" Zhou Pan said.

"Say it again! Be careful or I'll beat you up like a little zombie!" Dafeng said unkindly. Looking at the woman who came with him, it was obvious that this guy was extremely selfish and even plotted against his own people.

Dafeng and Wu Bin have been together all along, with only true friendship and support, without any calculations.

Zhou Pan shut up immediately. He was really afraid that Dafeng would beat him. It would be better not to provoke him before he understood his habits. He could see that these guys trusted each other 100%.
