"You're right, as always." He laughed, a sound foreign to him.

They fell into a heavy silence. No one said anything. No one moved. Even Li Chenyang didn’t think of it.

Li Xueyue was the first to break the tense atmosphere. She smiled.

Everyone was surprised by her reaction. The ministers exchanged confused looks. Had she lost her mind? Perhaps Li Xueyue was right, the medicine she took must have affected her mental state.

Who would have the guts to laugh at the emperor's words as a bluff? Who would laugh during such a serious conversation? Her life was already hanging by a thread, but this tension also cut off her lifeline.

"Absolutely nothing, Your Majesty. You don't need to stress yourself out by worrying about my well-being." She bowed her head and continued, "I really appreciate everything you've done for me, but Your Majesty doesn't need to lend a hand."

"Well, consider it a reward for your courage in bypassing my bluff..." Fa Dongdi snorted, pretending to debate his next response.

Li Xueyue tried not to let out a heavier sigh. She reminded herself that this was just an old man who was upset and had to bully the young for fun. Even after she said all that, he still wanted to intervene in her life, as if he had the right to do so in the first place.

"I understand that you don't want to get married. After all, you will be tied to one man for your whole life, which must be boring for you." Fa Dongdi said deliberately, poking at the fact that she had more than one suitor vying for her attention.

Li Chenyang frowned after hearing what her uncle said. Was the emperor teasing her on purpose?

A dangerous provocation like this could ruin her reputation. People would think she was a selfish, wanton, fooling around woman, but in fact, she was the exact opposite. She didn't want to attract any unnecessary attention, but life always liked to have its own ideas.

"Don't you think you have so many men asking for your hand in marriage? If I were the Duke, I would be angry. I have better things to do than drive people out of my domain," the Emperor mused. "Have you ever considered that your unmarried status might be a burden to everyone around you? Especially your family?"

Li Xueyue could see what he was up to. The emperor wanted to make her feel guilty and marry someone he liked. Why was he so obsessed with her? Didn't he have better things to do? Like, rule the country?!

She doesn't let this little taunt get to her. She cares about her family but knows they care about her, too. They don't want to force her into marriage just because the Duke is tired of fending off suitors.

Li Chenyang decided to put a stop to all this folly. "Our parents have never complained about this. In fact, we would rather she never get married if it would make her happy. Entering into a loveless marriage for the sake of public image is never a good idea." He glanced at the queen, hinting at her deliberately.

"Your Majesty, I really appreciate your concern for my sister. However, it is not necessary. If I may be so bold..." He trailed off as he waited for the Emperor's permission.

"Go ahead." The emperor urged. He really wanted to hear what Li Chenyang, one of his favorite nephews, had to say.

"Li Xueyue is doing well on her own. Her private affairs do not need outside influence."

Seeing a trace of dissatisfaction flash across the emperor's face, Li Chenyang said again: "We understand your concern for her. She has not yet married and her potential is beyond your imagination. You are worried that she will fall into the wrong hands, and this is completely reasonable."

"As her brother," he put his hand on his chest, "don't worry, this will never happen."

"Then how can I trust you?"

Li Chenyang smiled slyly to hide his cold eyes. "Because history should not repeat itself."

The emperor's face was full of confusion, his eyebrows knitted together, forming more wrinkles on his wrinkled forehead. Finally, a sentence emerged in his mind-Li Xueyue should not suffer the same tragic fate as Li Minghua.
