"Well, of course I understand why this place is favored by the nobles." Duchess Wang Qixing looked at Xueyue thoughtfully, and Xueyue looked at everything with wide, curious eyes.

"It's always clean here, and the decoration is elegant, but not too gaudy." Duchess Wang Qixing looked back at the quiet street with only a few people, and she said this. This place is away from the main road, so away from the typical crowd. The shops here are mainly frequented by the upper-middle class and above.

"Princess Wang, Princess Li, it's an honor to serve you." A middle-aged man bowed deeply and happily. "The commander asked me to take you upstairs to the private room."

"Lead the way." Duchess Wang Qixing said, and Li Xueyue looked absent-mindedly outside the restaurant.

Duchess Wang Qixing turned her eyes to see what caught Li Xueyue's attention. Her eyebrows raised briefly. "Oh my God, if it's not-"

“No, you can’t,” Duchess Wang Qixing chided as Xueyue took an eager step in that direction. “You won’t—”

Li Xueyue seemed to be in a trance, and instantly moved closer to that direction. She hadn't seen that person for several days, and he stood there with his back to her, but still appeared where she could easily reach him.

"Xueyue!" Duchess Wang Qixing called out and quickly reached out to hug Xueyue's elbow.

The man tensed up and turned around immediately, his ears pricked up and his eyes sharp. Was it someone who called Xueyue just now?

"You can't walk like this. Come quickly, the commander is waiting." Duchess Wang Qixing pulled her closer and scolded.

When their eyes met, Li Xueyue took a deep breath. "Please say something to him——"

"No, darling, you can't do this. If you give in now and show your desperation, things will—"

"Mrs. Wang." A pleasant but cold voice sounded.

Duchess Wang Qixing turned her head sharply and saw Commander Wen Jinkai standing behind her. When did he come downstairs? Her eyes became cold and displeased. Just seeing him made her angry.

She found that the middle-aged man who had greeted them just now was now standing behind the commander.

"It's so infuriating. This man brought that bastard directly to us." Duchess Wang Qixing said in her heart, her eyes full of accusation.

"We are on our way upstairs," replied the Duchess of Wang Chi-sing, without giving him any title. How could she show him any respect after what he had done to her lovely daughter?

This vile scum deserves to be burned in the pit of Diyu for what he did to Li Minghua. How dare he take her virginity and not even promise marriage afterwards?!

"The least the insolent boy could do was to keep her safe in the palace, but he can't even do the simplest of things," she said self-deprecatingly.

Wen Jinkai's attention was not on Duchess Wang Qixing. Instead, his attention was all on Li Xueyue. Half of her back was facing him.

She was fascinated by something outside the restaurant. He was not satisfied with it. His eyes narrowed. What was it that caught her attention so strongly?

Wen Jinkai hoped she would look at him the same way she looked outside the restaurant. If only Li Xueyue could spare some time for him. That was all he wanted—her attention and nothing else.

"Xueyue." Wen Jinkai whispered. "It's been a while." He hated small talk, but it was the most effective way to coax her into talking to him.

Despite the gentle admiration in his voice, Li Xueyue couldn't take her eyes off the man standing a few feet away from her. However, the man was not looking at her now.

Duchess Wang Qixing couldn't help but sigh at the sheer irony of the situation. She looked at Wen Jinkai, who looked at Xueyue, who was bewitched by a man who simply ignored her. How could this be?

"Let's sit down? I'm exhausted from standing like this." Duchess Wang Qixing sighed softly and pulled Xueyue. "Well, Xueyue?"

Hearing the Duchess's stern voice, Li Xueyue was startled. Finally, her eyes fell on her mother, and a shy smile appeared on her face.

"I..." The apology on her face disappeared when she saw the person standing in front of her.

Wen Jinkai was as tall and proud as ever, exuding an air of arrogance that was well-deserved given his achievements. Soft and cold, there was no warmth in his heart, but his smile suggested otherwise. He looked at her intently, and no one else. It was as if she was the center of his world.

“Finally, your eyes have fallen on me.” Wen Jinkai chuckled, the sound was pleasant to the ear, but it gave Duchess Wang Qixing goose bumps on her arms.

Duchess Wang Qixing couldn't believe that she had defended this man. She didn't want to eat in front of him.

The reason why Duchess Wang Qixing came to this restaurant was only because she needed to take back Li Xueyue's pendant. On the back of Xueyue's pendant, the surname Li was engraved. Except for a very few people, most people don't know the seal of the Li family. This pendant is irreplaceable and cannot be copied-unless King Li Chenyang allows it.

"Commander." Li Xueyue greeted him in a low voice, turning her head slightly to see if he was still standing there. When she saw him leave, her heart sank to the bottom.

Wen Jinkai's smile turned into a bleak line, and his patience gradually weakened. "What's so important outside?" He rushed to her with gritted teeth in an irritable voice.

Li Xueyue's hand instantly flew to the place on her thigh where the dagger was hidden. She thought he would do something to her, but he just stomped to where she was standing, looking out the window, his eyes ruthlessly scanning the scene outside.

"You are distracted by what's going on outside, but there's no one there." Seeing that there were no important people around, Wen Jinkai frowned slightly. Perhaps she was admiring a dress she saw through the shop window?

Li Xueyue stared at the floor sullenly, her shoulders drooping. "He's not here now..." she whispered.

"Him?" Wen Jinkai hissed. So her attention was focused on one man? He gritted his teeth and clenched his jaw. He almost reacted based on his frustration. He decided not to do this. Being rude was not the best way to deal with her.

A woman like Li Xueyue needs to be treated with caution because she is too gentle and made of glass.

Duchess Wang Qixing sighed in disappointment and shook her head in frustration. It seems that Xueyue is really obsessed with him.

"Let's go upstairs. We don't have time to hang around out here." Her voice was cold and unwelcoming.

What's more, the huge carriage pulled by two handsome horses blocked the entrance and prevented anyone from getting in. Anyone could hide behind the carriage, eager to get in, but unable to because the transport was too large.

"Indeed, we didn't." Wen Jinkai nodded in agreement and looked at Xueyue. In a blink of an eye, he held her hand.

Li Xueyue's body tensed up, her eyes filled with fear. She pulled her hand back, but he held it tightly.

"Commander, what are you doing—" Her voice was cut off when he revealed a crimson bracelet, with a gold border inside that swirled like violent waves, and white opals inlaid on the outside to form lovely flowers.

"A gift," he mused, sliding it across her wrist, but she struggled against his grip.

"I don't want this."

Wen Jinkai was stunned, looking at her sharply. Her heart beat erratically in her chest, wild and frightened, afraid of what he would do to her. "Then we must get rid of it."

"W-what?" Li Xueyue whispered, thinking he meant to kill her.

Li Xueyue suddenly came back to her senses. The Duchess looked at her sharply, warning her not to fall into his ruthless trap.

“I don’t need useless stuff,” he said.

"I'm glad we're on the same page," she snapped. "I don't need you in my life."

He stared at her blankly, his face suddenly blank. Did he hear it right?

"How shameless can you be?" she fired.

"You're still angry with me." Wen Jinkai immediately released her wrist, an apologetic look on his face. "Xueyue, I didn't mean to threaten you in the stable. If you feel threatened by me, it was unintentional."

"You want me to replace her." Li Xueyue sighed, her eyes widened, full of disapproval. "I know everything now."

Wen Jinkai frowned in shock. His dark eyes were filled with all kinds of emotions, but why could she see her perfect reflection in those agate beads? Why was his attention so focused on her, his pupils dilated?

"You don't know everything. No one can know everything about me." Wen Jinkai roared, his voice sinister and rude.

"I don't need to, and I don't want to, know everything about you. I only know what you did to her."

Wen Jinkai became nervous when he heard her words. Did he... hear her correctly? "What are you talking about?"

"I wanted to be pleasant, I really did." Li Xueyue snorted, crossed her arms and made a gesture. She looked at him as if he was the most despicable thing in the world.

"Are we that stupid in your eyes?"

"Snow Moon——"

"Give me back my pendant. I don't want to waste my time on you."

He was frightened by her actions again. There was a flash of hurt in his eyes and his lips were pursed down. Was there really no chance for him to be with her?

"You react as if eating with me is like eating with the Ming King."

"No, it's worse than having dinner with King Ming." Li Xueyue said firmly, stretching out her hand and revealing a pendant wrapped in a handkerchief.

"I believe this is yours."

He looked at it in shock, his eyes moving from the handkerchief to her determined expression. She was firm in her decision. She didn't want his pendant.
