Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 307 Crown Princess
"We heard wrongly," Yu Zhen told Xiao Lizi. He approached his horse and reached for the reins, but she snorted in protest.
"What is it?" Yu Zhen asked impatiently. He needed to find Xueyue as soon as possible. Even a minute in the rain would be dangerous for her.
Xiao Lizi tilted her head and moved a little closer to the small cave. She lowered her head and began to push her face towards the entrance.
"No, we can't take shelter," Yu Zhen replied. He grabbed her reins with his gloved hands and started to guide her away, but then he heard something. There was a slight metallic clang, similar to the sound of a saddle pedal.
Yu Zhen always felt that something was wrong. He hesitated at first, but later decided to explore the cave again. Although the opening was small, he had ventured in before.
He pulled the reins and led Little Chestnut toward the door. Together they climbed the small steps that led down into the dark abyss.
Yu Zhen blinked his eyes quickly, hoping to adjust to the darkness, and it didn't take long for him to adjust. He squinted his eyes. Suddenly, he smelled something. The smell of burnt wood and ash. Someone had set up camp in this cave.
“Xueyue?” Yu Zhen called out when he saw a mass that looked like a corpse at close range. Without wasting time, he immediately ran forward. His footsteps were loud, stepping on the wet stones.
"Sunshine?" he whispered as he felt the cold skin. He couldn't see the man's face.
He drew his sword when something moved beside him. Who exactly was in the cave with her?
He started when he heard a faint sigh. The animal sniffed the ground and turned its head to look for the sound.
"Black Moon?" Yu Zhen said as he slowly lowered his sword. The horse snorted in recognition.
Yu Zhen stretched out his hand until he felt the familiar wet feeling of the horse's mouth. The horse neighed at the contact of a foreign object and shook its head to avoid the contact.
Yuzhen admired the horse lying near Xueyue. At least she felt a little warmer. He reached out to grab her shoulders, but reacted quickly and pulled his hand back when Heiyue bit the air - almost as if he was protecting her.
"Don't be silly." Yu Zhen roared.
Yu Zhen leaned forward and took Xueyue into his arms. He was surprised to find that she was much lighter than the last time she pressed her weight on him.
Li Xueyue did not move. Her body was limp like a corpse.
Yu Zhen had never felt more terrified than at this moment. "Xue Yue?!" he asked. Her lack of response frightened him even more. He needed her to respond. He needed to hear her voice.
"Sunshine, don't do this to me," he whispered urgently as he placed her on his lap. He adjusted her body so that she was resting comfortably against his chest.
Yu Zhen touched her face. She was colder than ice. He uttered a string of dirty curses, but she could not hear them. She was wet from the rain. He could feel the water dripping from her clothes. It would be a waste of time to build a fire to warm her now.
"You'll be fine." Yu Zhen whispered in fear. She'll be fine. She has to. He won't accept any other conclusion. For the first time in his life, his fingers trembled with fear.
Yu Zhen pulled off the leather cape draped over his shoulders. Although it was wet, it at least gave her an extra layer of protection. He continued to take off his clothes and put them on her.
Yu Zhen lifted her up easily, completely ignoring the wet fabric on her bare chest. He didn't care about himself. His only concern was to shield her from the rain. He didn't mind standing in just his breeches.
"Come on." Yuzhen whispered to Ma. He walked over to Xiaolizi, who tilted his head and observed his master.
Black Moon reluctantly followed the sound that had taken his friend away. He ran out, shivering with cold.
Although Yu Zhen slid onto Xiao Lizi with some difficulty, he succeeded. With his woman nestled comfortably in his arms, there was nothing he couldn't do. He reached out and adjusted her position, so that his head would block the rain from hitting her hair.
Yu Zhen tied Black Moon's reins to Xiao Lizi's saddle. He first urged Xiao Lizi to trot. Black Moon followed closely behind, and finally broke out into a gallop louder than the lightning in the dark clouds.
It was time to take his wife home.
Lu Tianbi paced back and forth behind the palace. That was where the stables were and the shortest shortcut to the forest. She was told that the crown prince had passed by here.
Beyond the palace wall and through the gate, there is a path leading to the forest. No doubt this is a good place for an ambush, so there are always guards patrolling here. Every inch of the ground is covered. However, no one is stupid enough to confront the Han soldiers head-on. They are the most violent people. Honor is not important to them, victory is important.
"Go back," Hu Dengxiao said sternly from the side. They were standing by the back door, but the huge door swung open, giving her a clear view of the forest path.
“This kind of pacing won’t bring Yu Zhen back,” Hu Dengxiao told her in a hoarse voice. He wasn’t going to take any other answer than a submissive “yes.”
When she didn't listen, Hu Dengxiao grabbed her upper arm. At this time, raindrops hit them and the wind blew towards them. Her clothes began to get wet. He was worried that she would catch a cold.
"Why didn't you chase him?" Lu Tianbi whispered wildly with big eyes. "Our commander is right there, in the middle of the God-forsaken forest, and we are safe within the palace walls!"
"You're too timid to go." Lu Tianbi said angrily, shaking off her hand. "Then you shouldn't have stopped me!"
“Are you crazy?!” Hu Dengxiao roared. She was startled by his raised voice, which rarely happened. “This rain will kill you!”
"Then it will kill our commander too!" Lu Tianbi screamed. "We are his closest friends. He risked his life for us on the battlefield. The least we can do is support him and fight alongside him!"
"Lu Tianbi, you have forgotten who I am." Hu Dengxiao cursed. "I dare say that the prince treats me like a brother, but before I become his loyal ally, I am first and foremost your father's servant."
Lu Tianbi was shocked by his words. She didn't want to hear the truth about their situation. She couldn't accept that the Prime Minister, her father, had this man who occupied her heart.
"Your safety comes first," Hu Dengxiao said excitedly. "I am your personal bodyguard first. If your life is more in danger than mine, then I deserve to die."
Lu Tianbi pushed him away. She took a few steps back, angry at his entanglement. "Then you should go after the commander."
Hearing her words, Hu Dengxiao closed his eyes. "I can't leave. Because I know you will chase us."
Lu Tianbi glared at him. "I don't have time to argue with you about this," she hissed.
"Where are you going?!" Hu Dengxiao asked as she stepped out of the door. If she took another step back, she could escape from here.
"To find—"
"Do not."
"—a doctor," she concluded.
Hu Dengxiao didn't believe her. She was the kind of woman who lied with gritted teeth. "The imperial physician has been invited, and he will be here any time."
Lu Tianbi's eyes did not leave the palace gate in the distance. The cement road leading there was soaked by rain, and the color was darker than the original gray.
"But our commander won't be here now," she blurted out.
Hu Dengxiao gritted his teeth. She could be so stubborn and vicious sometimes. “Promise me,” he said excitedly.
"what?"
"Swear to me, if I go to find Yu Zhen, you will not leave the palace." Hu Dengxiao demanded.
To be honest, when he saw Little Li rushing down the sidewalk and out of the gate, Hu Dengxiao wanted to jump on the horse. He had never wanted to catch up with his commander as much as he did today.
But his duties got in the way.
His obligation to the Prime Minister was like a belt around his neck. He couldn't leave here until he was sure that Lu Tianbi would not do anything reckless.
Hu Dengxiao's eyes were sharp. Her lips were trembling. She wanted to say something unfavorable to him.
Lu Tianbi dropped her chin. She couldn’t promise him something like this. Not when her best friend was somewhere outside. She couldn’t do anything for him, and it made her feel suffocated inside.
"The prince is the glory of Han and the sun that brings us prosperity." Lu Tianbi said coldly. "His life is more important than mine."
Hu Dengxiao opened his mouth but stopped again. He felt it before he saw it. In the distance, the metal gate began to rise. The ground might also be shaking. Xiao Lizi was so powerful. But she was not alone. Neither was the man who rushed into the palace entrance.
Lu Tianbi opened her lips in shock. Her eyes widened when she saw him. Xiao Lizi was led to the stable.
The commander was back. His steps were firm and powerful. Even from the intimidating distance, she could feel the power emanating from him.
The person he held in his arms was Empress Jian of Han.
