Li Xueyue felt a familiar pain in her heart. It reminded her of the time when she found out that Bai Tianai was with Zheng Leiyu. It had been many years since that incident, but the pain could never be forgotten. It crawled out from the depths of her soul and gnawed at her trembling heart.

She exhaled tremblingly and took a step back hesitantly. She wanted to escape, but where could she escape to? She wanted to shout, but how could she shout? When her eyes met his, he let go of her hand.

"Well, this is an interesting sight." Li Xueyue smiled bitterly. She held her stomach and stared at the familiar woman.

"Sunshine." Yu Zhen whispered.

Yu Zhen completely abandoned Xu Jiaqi. He rushed to Xueyue who was standing at the door. He reached out to pull her, knowing that she must be frightened by this scene.

Li Xueyue let him touch her. She saw the hope rising in his eyes, but it disappeared in an instant.

"Let me explain," Yu Zhen muttered. He placed his hands on her shoulders, hoping to comfort her. Despite the heavy shawl over her hanfu, she looked cold. He pulled her into the room and closed the door behind him.

"Yangguang, don't look so sad." Yu Zhen said. She looked at him blankly, her eyes numb with pain.

"How many concubines do you want to take?" Li Xueyue asked coldly.

"Not a single one."

"Yeah, that's right."

Yu Zhen frowned. "Have I ever lied to you?"

Li Xueyue tilted her head. Did he? She wanted to look over his shoulder, but she couldn't. His tall body towered over her. He was her shield, but also her obstacle.

"Who is she?" Li Xueyue pointed at Xu Jiaqi, who looked shocked. To Li Xueyue's surprise, the beautiful woman lowered her head.

"Crown Princess." Xu Jiaqi knelt down and greeted her. "It's unfortunate that we have to meet like this."

Li Xueyue narrowed her eyes. She saw through this woman's behavior at a glance. She was obedient for the time being, but she would not be tamed in the future.

"My name is Xu Jiaqi. I didn't mean to make our meeting so awkward, but next time, your eyes won't be tarnished—"

"Next time?" Li Xueyue repeated sharply. "Look up."

Xu Jiaqi did so with a bewildered look on her face. Why was the Crown Princess so angry? She slowly raised her head. People were talking about Princess Wuyi's beauty, but she didn't see it. In her eyes, Li Xueyue looked pale compared to herself, especially when she stood next to Yu Zhen.

"If you value your life," Li Xueyue said slowly. "Then get out."

"I don't understand, Crown Princess..." Xu Jiaqi lowered her voice and frowned. She was very conflicted about this.

Why was Li Xueyue so unwilling to share? It was not surprising that the prince took a concubine, especially since she was plain-looking and petite. Such a skinny little thing would definitely not satisfy the prince, right?

Xu Jiaqi wanted to know if this butt could still give birth to a child? Could Li Xueyue still handle the prince? The princess looked like she would break if he touched her.

"Even dogs understand the command 'get out'," said Li Xueyue.

Xu Jiaqi's eyes widened at the princess's offensive words. She concealed a sigh and looked at the floor.

"Princess, I have never wronged you—"

"That's enough." Yu Zhen said angrily.

With just one simple sentence, Xu Jiaqi shut up. Her lips were tightly closed and remained on the floor. She wanted to stand up and take a look, but she couldn't. The prince's eyes were so scary. It felt like a mountain was pressing down on her.

"Get out of here." Yu Zhen roared.

Xu Jiaqi's eyes moistened when she heard his words. She didn't want to leave the prince alone with that woman. She slowly stood up and raised her head.

"I'm sorry, Your Highness..." Xu Jiaqi leaned forward suddenly, covering her mouth, and suddenly wanted to vomit. She felt that the contents of her dinner were about to come out.

Just when she was panicking, she saw this. The prince protectively pushed Li Xueyue back a little. The prince was more concerned about Li Xueyue and her condition.

Xu Jiaqi knew that this was also expected. Li Xueyue would always be the first, wouldn’t she? Except in bed. Exactly. The prince would prefer someone else, like her, then.

"Your Highness, please forgive me." Xu Jiaqi muttered. She rushed to the door, but was stopped by a loud voice.

"stop."

Xu Jiaqi paused, turned around slowly, and covered her mouth with one hand. She suppressed her fear and trembled as she lowered her hand. She was ecstatic, thinking that everything would develop in her favor.

"Say goodbye to the Crown Princess."

Xu Jiaqi's hope was shattered. Her lips twitched. She thought he wouldn't care, but it seemed that he did.

Xu Jiaqi reluctantly bowed her head to the Crown Princess. "I wish you a peaceful night, Your Highness."

Li Xueyue didn't know why, but she felt a chill. When Xu Jiaqi raised his head, goose bumps appeared on his skin. The woman then slipped out of the private study without saying a word.

"Let me explain." Yu Zhen repeated, attracting Li Xueyue's attention, and then she came to the conclusion. It was understood that she had embarked on the path of overthinking.

"Very beautiful." Li Xueyue said suddenly.

Yu Zhen blinked. "She's annoying," he deadpanned.

Li Xueyue turned her eyes away from him. She tried to break free from his grip, but his hand tightened.

"Yu Zhen——"

"Why are you wearing so little?" he asked worriedly.

Before Li Xueyue could react, he jerked her loose. She watched as he adjusted the shawl, which was basically a long strip of fabric that went around her upper body. He made sure it covered her upper arms, not just her shoulders.

"Are you cold?" Yu Zhen asked. Without waiting for her to answer, he took off his robe and wrapped it around her.

"Wear more clothes next time. It's quite cold in Hanjiang at night," he said.

Li Xueyue caught up with her lips. Was this his strategy to change the subject? She jumped when he grabbed her hand and pulled her forward.

She jerked her hand away, surprised that he allowed her to do so.

"Come with me to the desk. It's warmer there." Yu Zhen told her patiently.

Li Xueyue hoped that he would cross the line like Wen Jinkai. But he didn't. Yu Zhen respected her boundaries.

“Whatever you want to know, I can tell you at my desk,” Yu Zhen told her. He waited as she observed the private study, noticing the fire lamps placed around his desk. They were made of metal, which conducted heat well.

"Will you have a harem?" she blurted out.

Yu Zhen was frozen by her words. "Why do you ask that?"

Li Xueyue bit her lower lip. This was not the answer she wanted. "You can say I'm selfish, but I don't want you to have anyone other than me."

Yu Zhen's originally cold eyes became gentle. He reached out his hand, and this time, she did not reject him. He put his arms around her and pulled her closer.

He opened his mouth to speak, but she interrupted him.

"When you held me in your arms, every word and every vow you made was so clear, and I believed everything you said. Promises are sweet lies, but you made them sound like truth," she whispered.

Yu Zhen felt a sharp pain in his chest. She was afraid of losing him, just as he was afraid of losing her. He held her tighter until she couldn't move.

"To me, you're the only one. I'm afraid... to you, I'm just one of many women," she said.

Yu Zhen knew she didn't mean it. But he was filled with guilt. She was confident in his words, but hesitant about his actions. He wanted to hold her tighter, but it was impossible. She was already pressed against his chest, and his erratic heart beat for no one but her.

"I only have you, Li Xueyue, and no one else." he swore.

Li Xueyue believed in him, she really did, but part of her was afraid of losing him. She could do nothing but rest her head on his chest. She prayed that he would stay with her when she was older and no longer young.

"I will never leave you, sunshine. If death dares to take you from me, I will fight you for eternal life."

Li Xueyue's eyes moistened when she heard his words. In his arms, she felt safe and secure. In his arms, she felt that nothing would go wrong. His words seemed absolute, and she believed it would be so.

“Don’t you know what you have?” Yu Zhen whispered. When she shook her head, he chuckled.

"Oh my heart, you fool."

Li Xueyue widened her eyes.

"You can break my heart, shatter it a thousand times, and do what you want with it. It was yours from the beginning."

Li Xueyue couldn't hold back any longer. Tears overflowed from her eyes. Her hesitant heart finally settled down in his words. She realized that his words were not promises to deceive the soul.

"So, stay with me, Li Xueyue. And I will stay with you. For the rest of our lives, and the rest of our lives."

Li Xueyue had no choice but to nod silently. She hoped that this was enough.

She wondered if he knew he had her heart, too. They had given it to each other without even realizing it. She couldn't even remember when or how it had happened. But it had. And that was the only thing that mattered.
