It was just dawn and the servants were still asleep when Li Chenyang was the first to visit Wen Jinkai. He was startled to see the empty bed and immediately ran across the corridor to look for him.

"Where have you been, you bastard?" he muttered. "You disappeared without even saying thank you!"

Li Chenyang was too lazy to check the small rooms in the big room. He searched everything in the room, becoming more and more annoyed as time went by. But Wen Jinkai was nowhere to be seen.

He was about to go back to his room, but when he looked around, he found himself in the east wing where Xueyue was. He thought it would be best to tell her the news in person, so he walked into her room without knocking. The guards outside were startled by his appearance again, but no one dared to stop this daring young master.

Li Chenyang walked to her bedside, expecting a peaceful and calm face. Instead, it was the exact opposite.

Tossing and turning in her sleep, Xueyue's conscience fell heavily into another nightmare. It was also a dream of being abused, but this time it was one of her most terrifying memories: hearing the passionate sounds of Lei Yu and Tian Ai entangled in bed.

"Xue...Yue!" A strange voice sounded in her nightmare.

“Xue Yue!” The same voice rang again, blurring the nightmare until she finally realized that it was just a dream.

“You must wake up now, things are urgent!” Li Chenyang shook her shaking body. His panicked voice and powerful hands woke her up.

"Hmm...what's wrong?" Xueyue complained tiredly as she ran a hand through her messy hair. She tried her best to drive the memory away, but it always reappeared in the worst form.

Her half-open eyes slowly moved towards him. After tossing and turning last night, she was really tired. She couldn't fall asleep, but was hypnotized by a strange flute sound. Thinking about it now, she felt that it was probably an illusion.

Who plays the flute in the dead of night?

"This bastard ran away in the middle of the night." Li Chenyang frowned and crossed his arms angrily.

Xueyue turned over in bed and looked up at him in confusion.

Ran away in the middle of the night? Who did it? Wenmin?

"What do you mean?" She yawned and buried half her face in the pillow.

Li Chenyang didn't mind her sleepy behavior, like a puppy stretching after waking up from sleep.

The same thing happened when Li Wenmin was forcibly awakened.

"I woke up a few minutes ago to check on him, but he was gone! He took his robes and belongings, leaving behind anything that didn't belong to him. The room is pretty much the same as it was."

Xueyue finally realized that the injured commander had left the manor.

Xueyue finally sat up from the bed. "But he's still injured! Why did he leave?" She covered her forehead angrily, feeling very upset.

"I don't know." Li Chenyang said in a hoarse voice as he ran his hands through his hair.

Xueyue noticed his obvious distress and climbed out of bed. "Let's go to his room, maybe we can find some clues." She said as she slipped her feet into her house slippers.

Li Chenyang nodded, and walked her across the hall and into the room where Wen Jinkai was. You see, all the commander's belongings are gone.

Xueyue found that the bed was neatly folded and Li Chenyang was too lazy to turn over the bed.

But then again, who would? No one could hide under a blanket.

As Li Chenyang began to pace back and forth in the room, biting his nails and muttering to himself about various possibilities, Xueyue noticed something strange.

Something was poking out from the center of the blanket. She decided to check it out.

Li Chenyang hadn't seen Wen Jinkai for many years. He was looking forward to seeing his old friend, but the guy disappeared in the middle of the night!

The last time they met was when Wen decided to join the army. He was only twelve years old at the time, but despite his young age, he rose through the ranks until he became the finest commander the country had ever seen. Within six years, his achievements had never stopped.

When he was thirteen, he made headlines by becoming the youngest general in the country. At fourteen, he led his first army to annihilate the enemy. At fifteen, he faced an army of one hundred thousand, while he had only ten thousand men around him. People thought he was dead, but Wen Jinkai not only saved half of his men, but his army killed all the enemy soldiers. At seventeen, he presented seven of the fifteen enemy leaders to the emperor.

Now that Wen Jinkai is eighteen years old, people have high expectations of him.

Li Chenyang was pacing intently and did not notice Xueyue's movements.

Lifting the blanket, Xueyue was surprised to find something hidden under it. In the center of the bed, there was a pure black jade pendant. Below it was a neatly folded note.

Xueyue grabbed the note first. She slowly unfolded the paper, on which was written in very neat ink: "This will keep you safe."

She picked up the jet pendant and examined it with curiosity. It was darker than finely ground ink. Cold to the touch, the jade was almost a mirror image of despair. She noticed a name engraved on the pendant, but she was too naive to understand the meaning of this gift.

Xueyue didn't know the great power of this pendant. She didn't know that it would always keep her safe, no matter where she was. Whether in prison or on the enemy's side, as long as she wore this pendant, she would be protected.

Her fingers stroked the cool jade and traced the name "Wen Jinkai" engraved on the white jade.

She tilted her head and looked at the strange necklace. What did he mean by the jade keeping her safe?

"Brother Chen, he left a pendant and a note." She noticed him pacing back and forth and shouted.

Suddenly realizing it, he immediately walked up to her. "A note? Let me see," he said, picking up the note and the pendant.

After reading these five simple words, he frowned.

That's it?

That's it?!

I worried for so long, thinking that my friend was kidnapped in the middle of the night, and I only wrote a letter with five words?

'And it wasn't even addressed to me! That guy was seriously injured and still had time to pick up girls?!

“That bastard…” Li Chenyang muttered in a low voice. He was so blinded by anger and annoyance that he didn’t even realize that the pendant he held in his hand was unique. He thought it was just an ordinary gift and didn’t bother to check the pendant, whose value and significance were more valuable than the kingdom itself.
